These are Iraqi soldiers.  They look absolutely fantastic!!!  Stick Kegety's RPG-7 on them and you're in business!!!

I just tried these guys out and the movable headscarf is just amazing!!!    WOW I am SERIOUSLY impressed!  This is BAS quality work!!!

Allah Akbar!!!

The only bug is with the AKMS.  On the rear sight, the textures are missing.  sad_o.gif   They also could use some Arabic voices kinda like the way BAS put custom voices on their Tonali soldiers like when they spot enemy soldiers or when they get hit.

But aside from that the pack is a must have for anyone doing Middle East conflict missions!

smile_o.gif

PS- To lower the scarves on a soldier type this in that soldier's init box:

this animate ["scarf1",1]; this animate ["scarf2",1]; this animate ["scarf3",1]; this animate ["scarf4",1];

If you want a trigger to raise the head scarf of a soldier type in the trigger:

soldiername animate ["scarf1",0]; soldiername animate ["scarf2",0]; soldiername animate ["scarf3",0]; soldiername soldiername ["scarf4",0];

"soldiername" is whatever the name is of the soldier who's facescarf you want raised. To lower the scarf using such a trigger, just change the 0's to 1's.

The way they did this animation is, I must say, extremely elegant as instead of a single animation, they used multiple animation segments to create a very seamless and realistic movement. Very impressive!!!

Yeah i know about the AKMS missing textures as they haven't been done as yet.

Hopefully we will be having arabic voices like you said BAS have done to give it a bit more realism.

Thx for the comments tho

Another thing I must say that I like about this addon pack is that you didn't name them "Iraqi soldiers" in the actual game itself.  Because of that it makes them more versatile so as to be able to simulate Egyptian, Syrian, Iraqi, Kuwaiti, Jordanian, ect... troops who all tend to have similar looking uniforms and helmets (and sometimes weapons).   The Egyptian Army at least I know for certain looks very similar to your addons, or at least they did back in 1997 when I trained with them near Alexandria.

One possibility however is to make these not only part of your MOD, but also as part of a "International Middle Eastern Army" pack with shoulder patches whos textures can be changed to the flags of different nations.

That's just one idea.

Oh also... I added scripts for the scarf animations in my reply up above (I edited it right before you replied to it).  I figure some people were probably curious about that.   I would recommed perhaps adding those scripts into the readme.txt file as it saves a mission maker the trouble of having to depbo the files in order to look at the animations in the .cpp file.

Anyhoo... once again fantastic job!!!  If the rest of your mod is of this quality, I think it will be VERY exciting and 1st rate!

there nice troops but they dont look like your typical iraqi conscripts ie: od green uniform with a jacket on but unzipped looking like they havent washed there clothing in a few weeks.

but thats just my idea

Well you would look like that to if your supply lines were cut off, you were rationing food and water and hadn't taken a shower in weeks.

However you make a good point about the typical green uniforms...however these models I'm sure could have their textures easily converted to a greener color, or to the black color of some of the Republican Guard units. It's quite simple to do in Photoshop at least.

I found a bug... If you try using a secondary weapon (RPG, ect...) with these units, the RPGs become invisible. I tested both the original BIS RPG22 and Kegetys's RPG-7 and it holds true for both. Other units didn't have this problem, only these guys.

That really sucks because it totally ruins my plans to make a mission with them using JAM rifles and RPG's. sad_o.gif

Well, you have a lot of texture and LOD issues on the troops to fix up on these guys.

they arent really playable just yet IMO

EDIT: In that pic above they look great. The problem is that once you move away from or just use the units, you'll see what i'm talking about.

@ Wick_105 - These are iraqi regular army soldiers in their tan uniform like i said this is only a teaser and we will be having the greens uniform too for them. As well as many camo's with the Republican Guard soldiers.

@ CanadianTerror - Will get hottentotten mike to look into these issues as he was the one to make them.

@ Miles Teg - Will sort that out as well as the LOD texture issues in an update on this pack.

Im terrible sorry to say this, but: Its not good.

(Im evil, sry)

It got alot of bugs.

1. No blood texture when unit get shot.

2. Camo on camo helmet is black around.

3. Scarf is missing texture.

4. Hand gun is flat (as a pancake)

I think the helmet cammo looks fine... The purpose of helmet camoflage is to break up the outline of the helmet, so black fabric on the helmet will do this.

As for the pistol, if I'm not mistaken, I believe that the pistol on these troops is the BIS default Czech pistol so you'd have to complain to BIS about that.

I still think these units look amazing, but they just need a little bit more work before they can be used in missions.

Overall however they push infantry addons to a new level I think with the very nice scarf animations and excellent textures. With the missing textures fixed and the RPG issue sorted out, I think these soldiers will be fantastic for all kinds of Middle East missions.

I tell you what has happened is when i binarized the .p3d's it seems to have gone all funny as we do have blood textures and with the camo on the helmet that also has gone wierd as before it was binarized there was no black on it.

The hand gun is not ours only the AKMS is ours in this pack.

Yeah binarizing addons is VERY tricky business. My mod had a tremendous amount of problems binzarizing our Zelda APC as it kept destroying textures and causing very strange bugs.

Finally Vipersheart got it sorted out although I'm not sure what he did to fix it. I believe it has something to do with the level of compression used or something like that.

I'm sure some of the addon makers here can give you more advice on binarizing your infantry properly.

the reason the blood textures are missing is because the hm_des_iraqi_WOUNDS is defined incorrectly in the config.cpp. the extension \hm_iraqi\des\ was used instead of \IMUC_Data

Quote[/b] ]Remember that this is only an early beta

this mod wanted feedback and its getting it. If a lot of these bug reports sound new to the team, maybe it should be called "an early alpha".

Easy CT, he never said he didn't want feedback.  There is no need to start getting all uptight about whether to label it alpha or beta.  It doesn't matter.  What matters is that we give constructive criticism politely.

I'm totally ok with calling it a beta.  Betas have bugs that sometimes the addon maker is not aware of so please don't start making arguements about silly stuff such as whether to call it an alpha or beta.   Lets just help him out in finding the bugs, so that he can make a really kick ass update of it.  This addon is by far the best looking Middle Eastern soldier I've seen so far.   The closest I've seen is Vipersheart's Jordanian commandos that he is making for the Lost Brothers mod team.

This Iraqi infantry addon also features that scarf animation which is a real break-thru I think in animations for soldiers because it shows how multiple animations can be used to make very smooth animations that look realistic.  This is very important and other Mod teams need to take notice and work together to develop these kinds of ideas.

So lets give their mod team our support rather then bickering about whether they labeled the addon an alpha or beta.

Yeah all our mod wants is constructive criticism so we can improve on the pack.

Also with a big thx to Kuro over in the OFPEC forums who has enabled our update to this pack with the ECP. smile_o.gif

All the problems mentioned so far will be sorted asap.
