theavonlady 2 Posted January 27, 2004 This is crazy! I was just seeing the demise of that last major virus, where you're told that Microsoft would love to give you a security patch. Now this timewaster starts coming in droves! Spam-Sent MyDoom Worm Threat to PC Users SEATTLE (Reuters) - A new computer worm called MyDoom, which is spreading across the Internet via spam, can potentially allow attackers to gain unauthorized access to personal computers, security experts said on Monday. The new worm, also dubbed Novarg or Shimgapi, doesn't take advantage of any software flaws or vulnerabilities, but rather is designed to entice recipients of an e-mail to open an attached file and run programs contained in the attachment. WhoCares 0 Posted January 27, 2004 For some reason I almost voted the last one, esp. because I sit at the office right now. No, not a single one received yet.
theavonlady 2 Posted January 27, 2004 Unless your a sysadmin, you'll likely not see these at work. Since one of the things I do at work is manage email accounts, I'm getting ridiculous amounts of these in. That includes my AvonLady.org accounts. Norton AV is intercepting all of them and none have been sent out from here. But the amounts coming in are absurd.
WhoCares 0 Posted January 27, 2004 I knew, there must be some use for those Admins  They actually informed as about another worm attack they managed to block this morning, mimail.r. Just read, this is the same worm...
havocsquad 0 Posted January 27, 2004 Bah, I got my foolproof method of keeping myself safe from worms, viruses, and security holes. Â It's the new and improving security device called "broke ass poor protection", by Hobos Incorporated. Â If can't afford internet at home, dead air insulating your PC from the internet is a sure protection against those nice worms that wreck havoc on your internet and other Windows XP functions. Â You can get virses and some other worms from programs brought home, but it's much more difficult for them to enter when you scan everything at both locations before it touches your PC. If that fails, I got my Minigun waiting right in the closet if the bugs start mutating migrating into real life like the bird flu went from birds to humans. Â If they do try to march out of my PC, da SOB's won't make it outta the monitor, neither will my PC either with 7.62mm splattering everywhere.... der bastler 0 Posted January 27, 2004 Well, my student account inbox received no worm mails today, but the university's mail server does a good job on filtering this stuff. Anyway, I love my Sylpheed-Claws (branch of Sylpheed). (read my signature... )
buggs 0 Posted January 27, 2004 I've just loged in to my account and i  had 21 new emails, 9 had viruses. all intercepted by Norton....... I usually get one every two months or so.
toadlife 3 Posted January 27, 2004 Here at work we block executable extensions outright and scan all attachments at the server level, but when this outbreak started, we just added 'zip' to the list of blocked extensions temporairly. Problem solved.
kegetys 2 Posted January 27, 2004 I get a few per hour, so not as much (yet) as with some similar worms in the past.

Apollo 0 Posted January 27, 2004 Well i did some course on system and network administration and have worked in multiple company's as as pc support so i understand Avon's gripe.Though i'm not the administrator at our office ,i only do pc support (making and loading immage files ,making backups ,checking cable connections and printers etc. ) ,the servers and the firrewall isn't my responsibilety. (thank god) Never had a virus on my home computer ,although multiple came in by spam. But i'm not that inclined to open spam mails let alone their attachments. denoir 0 Posted January 27, 2004 Nada. Zip. Nothing. My mail server has a protection system that is so paranoid and evil that it makes the Spanish Inquisition look like a fluffy pink bunny and it's security is as impenetrable as a pair of medieval armored underpants.
