alcazar 0 Posted January 26, 2004 Kinda OT, but has anyone managed to get the music from Remo's vivelafrance.pbo to work in a mission? I've set up a trigger which plays the standard music ok, but when I select Remo's music I get nothing
hellfish6 7 Posted January 26, 2004 Can I make a stupid request for the tank pack? Can I please have a hidden selection for the LeClerc that says "Avant Le Char De Mort"? It would mean a lot to me. Thanks.

Or atleast get myself a better dictionary Or was the correct translation "Before the tanks lie death" ? goob- "Mad fe'r it!"
whisperFFW06 0 Posted January 26, 2004 "Avant Le Char De Mort"? Â Â Is it a translation of an english sentence you'd like to see in french, or do you really want this exact sentence? Cause it doesn't mean much in french

hellfish6 7 Posted January 26, 2004 Doesn't it mean "Forward Tank of Death"? Maybe I'm remembering it wrong (I lost the pic in a fire a few years ago)? It was painted on my grandfather's Sherman tank in 1950. I don't know the history of it, and I don't know if he ever spoke French, but I thought it would be cool. I think "Avant char de mort" might be more the right sentence, although i dont know another word for forward in french then avant. Avant Le = infront of the
whisperFFW06 0 Posted January 26, 2004 "Forward tank" would be a concept hard to translate. It is something found in the "VAB" term : Vehicule de l'Avant Blindé (Forward Armored Vehicle), but the same concept applied to tank would make a weird sentence : "Tank de l'Avant de la Mort" ... "Mortel Tank de l'Avant" could do it

"Mortel Tank de l'Avant"  could do it  Keep in mind it s an English interpretation painted on a Sherman ...  ( no pun intended ! ) So it would have been most likely "Avant char de mort" that was painted on it. From the french i learned at school i would freely translate "Mortel Tank de l'Avant" more like "dealy tank from upfront" or "Mortal tank from upfont" .. Cheers
hellfish6 7 Posted January 26, 2004 Would it still be translated as "Advance, tank of death"? Would "Avance char de mort" work? I haven't used French in almost four years now. I'm very rusty, obviously.
JAP 2 Posted January 26, 2004 Aaaaah you mean forward as in Gogogo ! hehe, thought you meant the most forward as in 1st tank, tank taking point. Lol. Yep then it should be "Avance, char de mort" or "Meuve eut, tank ze mort" in good allo allo french
hellfish6 7 Posted January 26, 2004 I do mean forward as in "Go" or "Move out". I didn't know if you guys were thinking of it as the "point" or "lead" tank or not.
whisperFFW06 0 Posted January 26, 2004 I didn't get it that way!  Ok! "Avance, char de mort" is perfect  Or "En avant, char de mort!"
hellfish6 7 Posted January 26, 2004 LOL thanks guys. So how 'bout it, Horrido?
SPQR 0 Posted January 26, 2004 Wouldn't it be more : En avant, char de la Mort  I don't know this napoleonian battle  I'm afraid that french superior officers won't allow this sentence on one of our tanks... disciplined and humorless

ran 0 Posted January 26, 2004 Wouldn't it be more :En avant, char de la Mort I don't know this napoleonian battle I'm afraid that french superior officers won't allow this sentence on one of our tanks... disciplined and humorless what about the "Mort aux cons" jeep ? it was written on the Jeep that led the first allied vehicles (French ones) entering in Paris, well, it was the vehicle heading the first column at least this jeep n°95122 belonged to the Capitaine Dronne of the RMT, one of my grandfathers served under his orders the legend says that when De Gaulle saw the jeep on a troops display and when reading the piece of poetry said to Leclerc "what a programme", but it's just a legend 1 thing is sure and it's been pictured in the movie "Paris brűle-t'il" it's the reflection of Leclerc to Dronne and his crew :"it will make a great effect when in Paris, I hope you'll delete this work of art before we start" ... Dronne never deleted it, the jeep has been destroyed twice, twice replaced and twice renamed "Mort aux cons 2" and "Mort aux boches ! Narch Berlin !" -edit- well tht was in WWII in a completely different state of mind compared to nowadays but hell ...

pzvg 0 Posted July 26, 2004 On the subject of slogans, The French are widely known for the free use of expression on armored vehicles. Military victories, names of provinces, leaders, wine, heck, even names of girlfriends have adorned French tanks since there were French tanks. and btw, I've seen that slogan, "Avance le char de mort" painted on an M36B1 tank destroyer used by French forces in Korea in 1951, so it is historical.
