j-man 0 Posted December 31, 2003 I'm not a very good addon maker and I think this idea has been suggested many times before. But couldn't you make a helicopter that can be fired out of. One of the BAS littlebird helicopters has a gunner shooting a gun out of the window. Couldn't someone just do the same but insted have a sniper at the back of the heli Sorry if this idea has been posted before
edc 0 Posted December 31, 2003 Yes, someone probably could make that, but it most likely wouldn't be that realistic. IRL, I'd bet it be pretty difficult to shoot a rifle accurately from a helicopter.
One 0 Posted December 31, 2003 check out Martin's Bell JetRanger.......very nicely done
r71 0 Posted December 31, 2003 check out Martin's Bell JetRanger.......very nicely done Hell yeah! Its not a sniper gun but it does have a hell of a zoom. Its also very stable to fire from
Wick_105 0 Posted December 31, 2003 you could replace a M60 with a rem 700 and have a custome gunner prox
mads bahrt 0 Posted December 31, 2003 You can snipe from the back of a BAS chinook when its stationary in the air.
One 0 Posted December 31, 2003 just mess around with the helo's config to give you some super zoom through the gun sights - thats if it has any when you press "v". some choppers dont have this. BAS' H-60's have pretty good zoom - but snipping with that mini gun? martin's jetranger is still the best bet
sniperuk02 0 Posted December 31, 2003 the us navy seals snipe out the back of seahawks but it would be nice
Dauragon 0 Posted December 31, 2003 the us navy seals snipe out the back of seahawksbut it would be nice side of the seahawk, not back and the delta's out of blackhawks.
theavonlady 2 Posted December 31, 2003 The IDF have a special sniper team that work from Blackhawks. They've also developed a special platform that assists the sniper by absorbing vibrations. Good thing I read my son's IDF magazine subscription.
stevevcb 3 Posted December 31, 2003 Sniping out of a hovering helicopter's probably not too hard for someone with the training, but shooting and hitting someone from a moving helicopter with a bolt-action or even a semi-automatic rifle would be very difficult, I'd imagine. NZXSHADOWS 0 Posted December 31, 2003 Well my opinon is that snipeing from a heli is just dumb,i dont see the point in it.

NZXSHADOWS 0 Posted December 31, 2003 yeah i guess,Now that I thought about it,It can be used to take out a target in an area that needs a quick in an out job I guess.
waffendennis 0 Posted December 31, 2003 Well SWAT uses that tactic to some times. Like a Raid from above: Sniper stays in. Chopper drops off Swat team. Sniper in chopper got's a bird view from above and shoots down evry thing that is Enemy.
stevevcb 3 Posted December 31, 2003 There are some advantages... you have a birds-eye view, you don't have to lie in the muck, and if there's something in your way, you can circle round

Crowley 0 Posted December 31, 2003 The US Coast Guard uses the RC50 rifle out of its Dauphins to shoot the engines of drug runner boats. Seems to work pretty well for them, looks pretty sweet too.

And it will sure as heck put a few heads down.
-SOC-S--Griffon26-2lt- 0 Posted January 3, 2004 ok on this topic i must again be the voice of reason ...first of all its not a Dauphin. It's an USCG Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) MH-68A "Enforcer" Version of the Agusta A-109E Power. Nice Ships. America's first and only airborne law enforcement unit trained and authorized to employ Airborne Use of Force or AUF. Also the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department is trained in the use of the MP5 from the Observers seat on the MD-500. but ok back on the topic first and foremost Heli-Borne snipers rarely engage targets with a typical sniper style. Snipers offer a VBSS team or ground based unit 3 things .. 1. a trained set of eyes with a high level of marksmanship. 2. give the team leader another tool as opposed to the minigun or a mounted MG on the support Aircraft. 3. it gives the AC commander less work load in the Comms department ... @cero 0 Posted January 3, 2004 Well my opinon is that snipeing from a heli is just dumb,i dont see the point in it. Lets quote Situation: Jungle. Chopper picking 4 man recon patrol that are being chased by a cuple of Colombian teams. Chopper pick the 4 man team up, while wayting another chopper is flying slow reconecing the surrounding terrain looking for threats. On this chopper is two snipers giving tactical fire suport with sniper rifles. Second situation: Three words that say it all. Black Hawk Down. Yep, the film. I don't think it would be very dificult to do, just change the onboard weapons of the BAS armed littlebird to a sniper rifle with telescopic site when you hit the "Weapon sight" key, and your done. @CERO
dm 9 Posted January 3, 2004 Well my opinon is that snipeing from a heli is just dumb,i dont see the point in it. Lets quote... ...Second situation: Three words that say it all. Black Hawk Down... One word... Miniguns... You try hitting ANYTHING with a normal rifle, let alone a sniper rifle with a powerful scope, the vibration and the movement just wont give you chance to hit the target... Thats why most helicopters are armed with machine or mini guns, so the high RoF compensates for the relative lack of accuracy. @Waffendennis He IS BAS He's one of our technical advisors, with 9 years in the Air Force (and still current), I think he's more qualified than ANY of us to talk about the modern equipment and doctrine

Thanks 3 things you need to snipe from a helo 1 good weapon and scope 2 good marksman and spotter 3 good pilot and aircraft
