hellfish6 7 Posted November 20, 2003 I had my doubts about these guys when they first started out, but they're doing pretty good for themselves, I think. I know I'm looking forward to anything they make. And, as I haven't seen any talk about them around here in a long time, I thought I'd start a thread and post some stuff of theirs that I haven't seen before. 2S1 Artillery LAW anim

CanadianTerror 0 Posted November 20, 2003 I'm still recovering from that 200 MB demo. But seriously, I'm at a loss as to how the guys who are making the bigger projects(such as this one)plan to fix anything after people find all the missed bugs that usually come up after a release!? There should be a mini demo pack of iraqi soldiers or something to gve an idea of what's to come. People get bored of screenshots, screenshots and more screenshots. IMO. MLF 0 Posted November 20, 2003 you have patches. one complaint i do have with GWC is that the tanks look a little too clean tbh there is no weathering on them or dirt or small scratches.
Guest Posted November 20, 2003 Thanks for the nice comments y'all. I posted these pics a couple of days ago...they seem to have slipped under the radar a little....not that my ego needs constant feeding Endless discussions about size are a little annoying. People can't have it both ways....a comprehensive mod with loads of stuff and a tiny file size. It just doesn't work that way. However one of the main things we are doing is to only include the 128x128 pixel versions of the ground textures for the islands as part of the main download. The luscious 512x512 pixel versions will be one separate download for broadband or brave 56k users. Estimated size of the "bonus textures" is currently about 100mb (the islands make use of around 700 textures all up...I might try and trim that a little if possible). The 128x128 versions only take up about 7mb. As for patches/fixes obviously we are hoping to keep this to a minimum...extensive beta testing etc. But yes no doubt something will slip through => I refer to actual problems, not the "the ashtray in that model HMMVW was slightly bigger in real life" kind of problems. Any patches would be relatively small, and hopefully we will need very few. The reasons we will not be releasing a mini-demo have been discussed elsewhere, frequently. But once again.... 1. It would be a lot of work to break things up into pieces then put them back together for a demo....a waste of our time really. 2. You would not get the full benefit of the scripting we are implementing. 3. Some things will only be put in right at the end, for various reasons. 4. There was a demo last year, and whilst it doesn't really reflect in any way where the mod is at present....hey at least it was something! I know it can get frustrating seeing endless screenshots with no "Download Here!" button, but patience will be rewarded. We haven't come this far only to stop now. Also we are on our fourth (strictly!) internal beta of the mod, with a fifth being put together at the moment. Part of the problem is that people in the OFP community keep on coming up with great ideas....we keep looking at stuff and say "Wouldn't it be cool to..." etc etc. A nice problem to have! Well I could say that the demo was mainly a "test". We weren't a so huge team and we haven't really beta-tested it seriously. For this version, the beta-testing started about 3 months ago and we keep improving it... That's how I think it'll have less bugs. At least less common bugs... quakergamer 0 Posted November 20, 2003 you lot still using the CS imported sa80 or actually made a new one yet? if so got any screenies? The model of the sa80, l86 is made by myself, textures are a CS-import. http://www.opflashpoint.org/news/images/robbo/gw/2.jpg Here is a picture of the latest one. Supah 0 Posted November 20, 2003 Must say you guys have been improving the look of the models greatly, some of it does however look to clean but as you said before some of the screenshots do not do justice to how the units looks now so i guess we will just have to wait for the demo to be released
Guest Posted November 20, 2003 Not a demo...the full deal! I understand the point about things being too clean, but at the same time I find it as equally unrealistic to have 10 tanks lined up all with dirt in exactly the same place. It's best not to overdo these things IMO. Then again...I ain't making those textures From spending endless hours in the desert testing things there is one thing in real life that happens in the mod. Inside most buildings it is dark and outside it is very bright. You will find that it takes a second or two for your eyes to adjust when you walk outside (depending on monitor/gamma settings of course). I've have observed this on a couple of people (including myself)....it wasn't intentional, but it means things are on the right track I feel.

Does it still have the completly wrong red scope? the best SA80 so far was the one made by Chris330 i think he was called (chris summit anyway) might be worth wile taking a look at that, as his susat is really good and accurate

Sorry m8, there are no new Main menu pics, I can tell you everything changed a lot. We *cough* also have a new mission editor *cough* (Also it doesn't look at all like FDF mod one). You'll have to wait for the final version for the pics!
