Graphics cards

Recommended Posts

After all the problems I have seen reported here with ATI cards, I would wait a few more weeks and pick up a soon to be releasedNvidia GeForce FX 5700 Ultra.

May I warn you not to?

Well only some cards tend to fail, I know a lot of people that has them and they have only failed on them for one reason.

They burned out the core on overclocking.

Or melted them by pushing them to far in speed.

If you are looking for a real banger for your money a Radeon 9800 non pro from Hercules or Built By ATi.

The Herc has excellent cooling and can be a Radeon 9800 Pro with just some replacement software.

The Built By ATi one, lacks the cooling as the Herc has, however, it makes up for that in customer service.

A great overclocker burned out his 9700 Pro suspected due to a motherboard failure sent it in and in a few days he got a new one back.

Thats ATi people, Nvidia suffers from performance because they optimise their cards for different games, primary those that handles benchmarking.

But they can't optimise for every game out there, so whenever there arrives something new, FX starts coughing and ATi rushes past them.

And recently a lot of people have bought ATi cards, just be careful with who you pick your card from, that is very important.

Also do I need to add that the FX series sucks in DX 8.1 and especially DX 7?

That means that an ATI will run Flashpoint better.

Thanks for the link. There's a 5700 Ultra review at Guru 3D that I wanted to contrast this to but I'm having trouble right now in my browser with Guru3D.

If you can view it, take a look and tell us what you think of the 2 reviews versus each other.

I use a Radeon 9700, and have had no problems with it. Furthermore, the drivers seem to keep getting better (noticed a nice improvement with the last one). I understand completely the ATI skeptics, though. I used to have a Radeon 7200... and I used to play ofp with it. I thinks its absolutely amazing that I was even able to, lol. Their older cards just dont seem to have much going for them, but like I said, I've been very happy with my 9700.

Never had an Nvidea though. Didnt know better when I got the first computer, and when I got the new one, the 9700 was the best thing on the market... so I'm a victim to hype tounge_o.gif

how the name of god do you need so many addon at one time? rock.gif

just simply pick what you need at one time then that ATI would go running smooth in OFP, if not then thats may posssibly be a setting problems

(if it is not my CPU, i am already running OFP with full power with my 9500PRO)

Just picked up a Grandmar Radeon 9800 Pro.

The Grandmars are amazing overclockers, mines clocked faster than the new XT's with stock cooling! Wait till I chuck water cooling on the bastard!

Looks fantastic, and blows any current Nvidia product out of the water!

I forgot to add that ATi HAS changed with their drivers, so has Nvidia.

NV has made a change for the bad, recently their drivers have been stripped for graphics quality to get the FPS in benchmarks.

They are playing on their reputation on present time.

Also after their cheating on the benchmarks they tried again, this time with a screenshot detector so when you took a screenshot in the game the card increased the quality for a short second and then go back to normal.

I will see if I can find the article that I read back then.

Especially the detonator 50.xx was horrible, stripped a lot of quality, not so strange Valve warned against them.

Also the FX PCB (What the card is built on) is not good.

Another proof of the NV you can see on the detontor size.

The FX cards doesn't use the unified driver with the older cards such as the GF4 series.

They have their own config files and own driver file, that consumes a lot download space...

I can confirm that myself when I checked the detonator drivers.

Up until 6 weeks ago, i was a dedicated Nvidia user (TNT2, GF2 GTS, TI4200 and TI4800SE) After much research and comparing i went for the ATI 9800 Pro. At first i had a problem with out of video memory error. After cutting my addons down, that got fixed. Now it runs flashpoint brilliantly. I run 1600x1200/32bit with Ofp level of detail max, textures 2048, View distance 2300m, max lights and shadows with no noticeable slowdown. And the picture quality leaves ANY Nvidia card in the dust.

I would recommend one of these bad boys to anyone. biggrin_o.gif

The GeforceFX cards use the same unified drivers as the older cards and the image quality in the new 52.16 is much better than before. There are still some bugs but they are a change to better.

Got mine from a reseller who imports them. Got a reasonable price on it as well.

The new 52.16 Nvidia drivers are very good, except they stripped down mipmapping to improve performance. This makes the textures not look very good at angles or distance, and the effect can be quite noticable. You can get modded drivers that disable mipmapping completely, but I don't reccomend it, no matter how much better it looks.

I'll show you the proof in my opened Detonator FX... Yes I have a few sets of modefied drivers, I am currenly using a Quadro4 allowed set of detonators 41.03's

I'll get you a screenshot of this FX thingy that clearly says it.
