Simple Question. What would you like to see in an island?

Agree in that  sad_o.gif

But while we're on the subject, I'll also add:

Foliage that blocks the AI's detection of you. This was more prevalant in OFP CWC and sorely lacking in Resistance.

I'd like a real third world looking island. Lots of varieties of palm trees and jungle underbrush. Large plants with large viewblocking leaves between the trees. Real triple canopy too. Large towering trees with smaller trees underneath and then vines and undergrowth. Real grass, like 6 foot tall elephant grass and such. Villages should be real third world looking. Ramshackle and thrown together buildings. Lots of clutter and litter. Electrical lines jury rigged running into them. Lots of foreign advertisements. Sidewalk shops and market places etc.. Crowded alleyways. Rivers with docks, floating markets etc...

Big cliffs and a nice coastline with them.

Some nice (FLAT) Forrests.

Small little islands with a small towns on them beside the Main island.(or maybe a BIG town on a very small island that would be nice too)

Roads that snake down valleys with cliff faces. These are great places to set up ambush the convoy type missions.

If possible, could some of these roads have 'lookouts' where theres a place to admire the view as well as a stategic place to place some units. Like Shilka's and Anti-air soldiers to guard the respective valley.

Just my thoughts, hope you consider them.

Well I would like to see a very modern island..like someone said with highways and a H U G E city with many new buildings and maybe sky-scrapers(saw some on opflash.org).I would also like to see huge flat areas near the roads with tall grass and corn fields like it is in my country,Romania...

But please make it an island that would set new standards..Don`t hurry up...I am tired of seeing all this average islands with resistance textures and buildings being realesed...So many costum objects and textures are must-have!

We will be making missions.

If I decide to have it completely custom which is what i want to do with new bushes and trees we will try to make them so they block sight instead of AI seeing u threw them.

Im leaving the 3rd World look up to BAS for now. They say theres is going to be released soon and i dont think i can out do them on a 3rd world country.

Funny you should mention that i just finished a road snaking down a mountain today. Has a nice porch from a building over looking it with lots of cover going up the side. I also have a lot of nice ambush places.

I have some fairly flat forests in there they arent all going up the side of moutains but they arent all perfectly flat either. There are presently 3 small islands.

Ill try for the skyscrapper thing but lag might get in the way but i assure you ill try and that im not trying to rush it.

When you guys say large air ports what do you want exactly? This is what i was planning on...

1-2 Runways, Lots of Hangers, Two different sections one for military use one for Civilian use, perimeter fence

I was planning on that cuz its unlikely that an island this size would have a international air port.

Like is asked above, some help creating these 'custom objects' would be nice. Any model takes a long time to create, hence why there are so few quality addons that are 'ambience' models only...

I've got a real thing about farms at the moment!, I'd like to see fields surounded with hedges with a 'five bar' gate in them. A set of farm buildings, courtyard setting, barns, stables pigsheds, farm vehichle~utensils like ploughs, muckspreaders, ect. And some crops(corn/wheat in 2 or 3 colours) texture/models (not sure how laggy it'd be) that are creatable in the same way as forrests are. Oh!, and some fruit trees would be nice smile_o.gif ...

Some models of shops are badly needed as well, big and small, and some market stalls with display~box/crate's with variable texture/fillings maybe?...

I'd like to see a very basic 'dustbin' model as well, not a 'dumpster', just a galvanised metal one with fishheads hanging out of it biggrin_o.gif ...

A washing line as well!...

PS, How about someone who's name carries a bit of weight in the comunity (the AvonLady?) starting a poll/petition thread to gauge interest in getting a basic animal animation created by BIS (or anyone else who's capable of creating anims' from scratch)?  If they saw that there was a good amount of genuine interest they might be swayed into 'throwing' one out for us! It does'nt have to be a textured/complete model. I'm sure it would be 'done to death' in skins in no time if it existed!! biggrin_o.gif . One animation~model could be used for all kinds of animals, resized from cats to shirehorses for pulling ploughs!...

1. I'm sure BIS has seen these requests on the OFP2 SUGGESTIONS forum (as well as in threads over the last few years).

2. If it can be done, there are plenty of addon makers out there who could pioneer this if they want to. If they don't want to, petitions and polls won't make a difference to them.

I dont think that animal thing will be able to be pulled off. Although i do have plans for some kind of animals i dont know how useful they would be but ill have someone work on them.

We are planning on shops, and pretty much everything else you just mentioned other than hedges which im still not sure on been trying to figure that one out for a long time now.

Just use one of the 'bush' models and trim it up so it's a bit 'squared' off (or use it 'as is'), then use it as you would a fence section, one after the other...

I think it would. If they saw that it was wanted by loads of people, they be more inclined to make it, the 'publicity' the prestige factor of it being a 'pioneering' addon would apeal to most people, no? rock.gif . To generate interest, it needs to be started by someone who'll people will listen to. It's the one model that would provide the most ambiance 'bang for buck' I believe...

Maybe a series of polls to find out what kind of addon people want most, weapons, vehicles, ect, or more ambiance,Civilian: buildings, objects (dustbins, wrecked/stripped cars on the road sides, power pilons, ect) farms. Military: Guard boxs, roadblocks, camp equiptment(weapon stack helmets, bedrolls) static~bodies, better static wrecks...

I don't know!, I just don't think the comunity is focussed. People keep churning out AK's and desert~camo~whateveryoucanimagines' cause they don't know what is wanted. so many models have been done 2 or 3 times simutaniously cause there's no index of what's being done in the comunity at the moment. (I know some like to keep secret whatever they're working on, but most don't give a fig). So much modding time and potential is wasted IMO on people making the wrong things for the wrong reasons sad_o.gif ...

I started making (learning how to) missions, but the thing that hit me was that I wanted my own 'scenario', my own terrain and camps, my own 'take off point' and place to storm. So I started learing how to use Visitor, I now have the basic terrain making down pat, but I noticed I did'nt have the objects to put on the map that I wanted, not units and vehicles but plain, static objects. So now I'm starting to learn how to usre Oxygen biggrin_o.gif . I've just seen a proggie called 'Cinema4D', or somename I can't remember now! free on a magazine(PC Art, I think) I want to find out if I can model in that and import into Oxygen in 3ds format...

To make what I think are really good quality missions, I need more 'unique' addons and more ambiance. Things that are so commonplace in life they'll be used in every mission made!, things to inspire people into making missions. How many people even know how to use the Editor?, I brought OFP the day it hit the shelves but only started using the editor a month ago! But I've already come to the conclusion that it's not worth 'publishing' a mission unless it's really something special sad_o.gif and then I'd aim higher and go for a campaign, or at least an 'episode'...

When I get the hang of editing I'll give you some missions, but I've got a long, long way to go before I reach the level of making even one complete mission, let alone having all the stuff I want for my missions! I'm not even at the stage of cut'n'pasting other peoples scripts! (scripting!, I don't know where to even start with learning C+ or whatever the language is called!) tounge_o.gif ...

If people were'nt so busy making stuff they want for their missions, they'd be churning them out at twenty to the dozen!...

Just good placesto fight. Ive seen islands like Sarugao that people say are the best islands ever and stuff, but OFP is a military sim, and yeh, they mite be nice, but i cnt find anywhere good to fight in Sarugao. places like valleys over rivers, with wooden bridges over, (if possibel you could even have like a script to llow it to either be fixed and crossable or broken, and then mission makrs can make scrpts to blow the bridge and stuff) and then after the ends of the bridge theres woods and stuff that troops can come from.

A multilane road like a highway which runs throughout the whole island linking up important infastructure i.e. Ports with Cities, with Cities to Factories and Cities to Cities

Some fire base bases. This can be done by making a small hole(which is flat) about 1 metre down and putting sand bag walls along the inside so it looks like the sandbag wall is supporting the hole.

id like to a proper made base with concretewalls that tanks cannot run over with only 2 ways to get in.. the front entrace or by air this be helpful for Defending, Attacking, Infiltration mission

@Corporal Punishment- What you mean by highways like 4 lane roads 2 lanes going eachway?

@Dark Knight-Hm good idea ill see what i can do about that

@Sxep- I dont think anyone in our mod has quite mastered underground bases yet. Although i would love that to happen. If we ever do master that ill make a smaller island with a nice underground base on it

@CrunchyFrog-Already working on the City one, Underground one same as above and there wont be any jungles in leaving jungles and 3rd world stuff to BAS

Obviously i cant give you all what u want but im doing my best to do what you guys want.

This is what i would like ,

Maybe someone can help me or point me in the right direction. I'm looking for someone too make a simple map. with as little detail as possible.

What i would like it to be full of Canyons, very little or no scenery (trees, etc...) with some roads and the very odd small base. Then maybe 3 or 4 airfieds arounds the corners of the map.

I would like to use it as an experiment (then release) for all these panes aia and soon ww2ec, italianww2? will have, in a mp situation to test lag and this like that.

Any ideas?

I would help you out with that trenchfeet but i got my hands full between running a mod, making the island and school. Doesnt sound that hard though u could probably easily do it just read some tuts on visitor.
