Cold war-germany

Recommended Posts

Ok, Here's the skinny. I've always wantedd to have a mod where the russians go straight through the berlin wall in all allied sectors, and you are an American soldier stationed in Kaserne who must help to stop the onslaught. You would be with any one of several American Units (i.e.: the 3d Armored) and you would work with West German forces to send the Russians packing. I have several Ideas, but little modding expertise. I was hpoing I could be taught to skin, at least, and create a campaign that took place both in the colder and warmer months. I'm just hoping that I can get a good amount of help, as I, well, suck. LOL, plz respond and give me your ideas! Thank you all-

I dont want to see another mod.

I want BW-Mod to be released and then together with all those fantastic West/East-Addons like BAS, Sig_Tanks, VITAPC´s, MT_LB, CSLA and other great stuff, a huge campaign like the very good book "Red Storm Rising(Im Sturm)" from Tom Clancy.

This campaign for multiplayer would be a dream.

Or like Avon said: "So many great addons and no missions to play them in."

I'm imagining the start of the USA-USSR conflict in "Sum of all Fears" (Where war breaks out in Berlin)

Great book crap movie...

My dream campaign is that the player is with the 3d Arored Div., 23d engineers, and his job, (along with his unit) is to blow bridges, and create minefields and obstacles to stop the tanks. There could be cinematics that show a column of engineer vehicles to "All along the watchtower" or something. I just want a more realistic cold war experience. And I guess it's not really amod, but a campaign. The only thing is, I need some new units and scripters. Like I said, I can't mod worth shit, my use of scripts is laughable, and I just want to see a more realistic campaign.

See? At least I have some support! Thanks for offering your infantry. We just need some more people, and we need more units, like engineer vehicles, bridgelayers, etc.

I totally agree. They made a right mess of it.

Red Storm Rising type missions would be excellent. I agree with the "more missions less mods" idea. Combined with new addons of course smile_o.gif

Red Storm Rising... I read that 2 years ago, I loved it, really kickass. I read Sum Of All Fears this summer but I found it a bit disapointing compared to RSR.. only cool parts were the Berlin battle and the 2 naval encounters. But then again, I guess no East vs West book will ever beat RSR tounge_o.gif

anyway, I'm drifting offtopic, I would like a Germany campaign... as long as it's more full scale than the original 1985 campaign. With aircraft, armor and infantry in larger numbers and all at once (ok, this prolly wont be friendly for lower spec comps) so you get a better feeling of war..

But then again, that would probably be unmanageble to make it perform correctly, hrm, what was I saying? I forgot, never mind.... I'm stupid rock.gif

Damn straight! See, I think a campaign that involved regular infantry, armor, etc. would be great. Hell, we could even have food service trucks and stuff get ambushed! I dunno, but I think if we put our heads together and thought this out, we could create some awesome missions. Whaddya think folks? I'd be more than happy to collaborate with any good scripter through email to create some kickass missions.

thing is, how you want to have all stuff be 'synchronised' so all aspects interact with eachother and furthermore, if you are 1 soldier/squad in a large scale conflict... how much influence do you have on the outcome? not much I reckon ... rock.gif

Oh yes - I'll second all of this. Now, what we need is a new island:

How about a "Fulda Gap island" (preferably a 25,6x25,6 km island and not a puny normal sized island) so we can start creating a

Fulda Gap scenario campaign, 80's style.

(Fulda is a river some ways east of Frankfurt, near the old east-west border, if I'm not mistaken)

Oh man, the ideas I have for that area... :-)

You see, I dont wanna be a general. I just want to be able to see this from a grunt's point of view. I may not make a huge difference, but (pardon the Pun) what's the difference? Oh, and the Fulda Gap sounds perfect. The island would have to be huge, and a Berlin map would have to be dreamed up. I think this project is starting to gain momentum?!? wow_o.gif

1) Creating berlin would be a strict (well, not a strict no-no, but you get the idea) no-no if you'd want the campaign to be actually playable. OFP goes to a crawl with lots of buildings and urban combat is not ofps cup of tea.

2) A setting outside some major city by a river might be much much more interesting. Reasons?

A: OFP is a countryside war sim

B: Russia has a lot more amphibious and airborne (read: vehicles like the PT-76 and BMD series of airborne ifvs) capacity than NATO (maybe not much more in '85 but nowadays alot more) so major river crossings could be interesting. Say you as a engineer is tasked to blow a bridge only to find that when you retreat the whole area is already saturated with russian MVD and Army troops and armor, so you have to hide in some village. Might make for some interesting missions.

Also, if anyone is up to the task of making a island (crewcutkid, this might be for you. Visitor has been released and from my impression it's not HARD to make a island, just very work-intensive) i say make it in spring time with some snow and dirt and mud and leavless trees. All ofp islands are either midsummer or midwinter. Boring.

Additionally, i really support the idea of you just being a grunt, a tiny cog in a huge machinery. I liked that about the orig campaign where you feel like you arent alone or part of a 10 man army (cough red hammer and resistance cough)

Also, i think the campaign should be structured like the original campaign in that you take on several differant roles. Being a commando is fun, being a helo pilot is fun, being a tank commander is fun etc etc but not all the time. In the original campaign you could always look forward to a differant job if you hated something. I for one lost about 10 litres of sweat after every black op mission. Man i was tense. Those were the days...

Chris's Infantry

Looks like Late '70s early '80s era Regular American Infantry. They look good but the helmets look like they could use a little bit of work in the texture department.
