Warrior of the future

Recommended Posts

Well, we shouldn't expect that soldiers will keep the same equipment as they have right now for the coming decades...

With such a mentality we would still have muskets. The US might not need it right now, but somewhere in the future you would. Sooner or later this stuff would come anyway. (and no I'm not talking bout the aliens stuff)

And as technology advances, things will get cheaper.

@waffendennis

Don't worry about the heat, the suit can regulate the temperature inside it (read in "kijk"). (that's what the plan is...)

But i must comit the suit looks really cool but i dont want to wear it in Iraq or that country because i think thats damned to hot.

What they're wearing and lugging now doesn't look like it keeps them any cooler.

I could imagine a small air conditioner unit in those future helmets. smile_o.gif

Luddism and 'it'll never work!' aside, i think this technology will prove to be very effective (and deadly) in the future.

A big question in my mind is whether theyll need to 'upgrade' humans to cope with all the new technology (training-wise at least). I cant imagine any country in the world (USA included) being able to field a full army of troops with this equipment any time in the forseeable future. But the idea of shock troops specifically trained to use a full loadout of such futuristic equipment is intriguing (especially as they are quite likely to fight AK wielding peasants, even in the future). It also seems likely that certain technologies (especially those cheaper to produce and maintain) will become more widely available quite soon.

Oh yes, im back from a voyage to North America smile_o.gif

Wasnt there a series in the 80ies about a guy in a black dress on a black motorbike. Well I guess they got inspired by that.

Streethawk, yeah! A bike equipped with MGs, rockets and a LASER plus abilities like jumping and "hyperthrust" (boosts velocity to 300mph).

Those were the days... biggrin_o.gif

btw: How about placing an EMP near these modern stormtroopers? Just toast their electronics...

Very interesting: "Lowtech Beats Hightech" (Sorry, in German language)

About "Millenium Challenge 2002" and red (lowtech) outwitting blue (hightech) by using couriers instead of radio waves (you can easiliy listen to other peoples radio waves but to intercept messages from couriers you have to catch them).

With all this hightech gadgets, we should never forget "The Art of War" --know your enemy, know your territory, know yourself.

I HATE all these new forms of battlefield technology. You dont need them and the money used to pay crackpot scientists for ideas that never work could go to pay for more useful things. The US dosent need the F22 nor the land warrior system. mad_o.gif  mad_o.gif

I'm agreeing with a Frenchman! *GASP*   tounge_o.gif

I think the F22 is a bit too much.  But having a few in our arsenal couldn't hurt... except the pocket book.

The landwarrior system IMO seems like it's just plain not gonna work.  Splitting a soldiers vision between the battlefield and a computer screen...

Perhaps it is really a good idea, but it seems far too technical to me.  But then again I was raised in the 'gimme my M16 and I'll take care of it' type of motto  tounge_o.gif

Unfortunately ur m16 will probably not even dent the  new armour and after u  realise that ,u`ll catch a glimpse of ur head spinning  off ur body,  in the reflection  of ur enemies visor tounge_o.gif

Try and find me first tounge_o.gif

(I know it's not an M16, but you get the idea... well... maybe not)

I think we are getting too high tech. The ATGMs, Cruise Missles, Laser/GPS Guided bombs, advanced air interceptors are worth more than the targets they are destroying. When a Hellfire destroys a puny T-55, you just lost over $5,000 killing on over killing an ancient peice of machinery. But, in my paranoid and somewhat off mind, think about what all these fancy weapons could be used for? Defence against aliens?  tounge_o.gif

Edit: As for your sniper Harnu, the soldiers of the future will see the sniper's infared signature, and be able to trace back the path of your bullets. You will be terminated. wink_o.giftounge_o.gif

Not with the new degree body gell!  (IF you've seen the commercials you know what I mean!) biggrin_o.gif

But seriously.  Most of these new weapons are coming out of ideas from the cold war.  So untill we go to war with a superpower, we're gonna be using million dollar bombs, on a five dollar shack  tounge_o.gif

LMAO. I hate that comercial. crazy_o.gif

You know. Personally, i really do not look forward to future fighting. While the ideas are interesting i think what we have now (not just the US) we should stick too. of course upgrading the weaponry.

I also think that there is no way the whole US army will be running around with these siuts and equipment. There is already kevlar and US soldiers still get killed by AKs.

What I think this kind of technology will be good for is for anti-terrorist teams and SWAT teams. It will be great for groups of special forces but probably wont be provided to the whole army.

Even if they have these kind of equipment there will always be ways to kill them since you will still be able to see the changes in the inviroment where they move even if they themselves are invisible (footprints, dustclouds, moving branches, wavy water,if its windy the wind will be different around the soldier than in the rest of the area) and they will still be making noice so you can use high-tech equipment to hear them.

And all this is if they manage to become invisible, solve the problem with energy and the problem of heat generation.

There is probably more to think of but I think this is enough tounge_o.gif

Yes indeed, first the elite troops will get the fancy stuff, but gradually the conventional troops will get these suits too.

Of course you'll still be able to kill them but it get's harder, their goal is not to make an un-killable soldier (not that they can, we are all mortal) but to force the enemy to make way more effort to take one grunt down. Yes US soldiers still get killed wearing kevlar but if all US soldiers wouldn't wear them, you'd had alot more casaulties. Kevlar does not make a soldier invincible, it's just protection. Besides, not every part of the soldier is covered with kevlar.

Don't be too sceptic about technology, 500 years ago people would laugh at you when you tell them it's possible to go to the moon.   wink_o.gif

If I told people 100 years ago they would laugh at me. At current rate of technological growth, this suit is completely possible before the middle of this century.

I've also heard that the commanche would be the last "conventional" chopper for the US military, after that... anti-grav vehicles? biggrin_o.gif

Today they would still laugh at you because it's too expensive! biggrin_o.gif

Hey, back then they flew to the moon with computers as powerfull as C64s! Today we have GHz-computers on our desktop just for gaming and even more powerfull mainframes in labs, but simple Mars missions fail.

Well mars has a different environment than the moon, think about the martian duststorms. The problem with that is not having high-tech chips, but a high-tech solution to protect them against the dust. Martians dust is quite "special". smile_o.gif

Going to mars is simple (except for the money problem unclesam.gif ), staying there is a problem.

Going to Mars is hardly a technology problem (as long as you decide beforehand on using meters or feet). The problem is in the orbital paths of both the Earth and Mars. There is no way to carry enough fuel to get you to Mars and back. Mars doesn't stay at a fixed distance from Earth like the moon does. Mars takes almost twice as long to make one complete revolution around the sun (i.e. a Martian year is almost twice as long as an Earth year). Even if there was a way to carry enough fuel to get there and back, both trips would have to be made when the two planets are closest. This could be a period of many months, however, and so far there is no way to survive on a barren planet for that long.

Back on topic; warrior of the future. It's possible but too impractical IMO.

ROFL, got it!

Okok, back ontopic ofp offtopic...

Again, how about EMPs? A soldier full of electronics is a nice target for this kind of weapons...

And think of the necessary software... there's no perfect software, there will be bugs, exploits...

How long will it take until the first warrior is hacked (they are planning to link all units, right?)? Friendly fire is a problem today, think of friendly fire because of hacked target informations.

Advanced Power Armor MkII You're almost invincible in it. Even Wanamingos can't kill you! The only problem is if you encounter an Enclave patrol you don't have much chances, but it's easy to avoid those patrols if you're a good outdoorsman, and a motion sensor in your Pip Boy wouldn't hurt too much either. (You do have one don't you?)

I've always dreamed about inventing some super armour and also finding an easy and cheap way to mass produce it so I can sell it to the finnish military, and then WE would have the best army. Naturally it would require a plasma rifle or a hand held minigun. It would just look so stupid with an assault rifle.

Also making the perfect AI is an other thing I wanna make, and then implement it to a Terminator style robot. (it would be a nice robot of course not evil, the T-800 just looks so cool (and the newest model looks even better with the skin on))

Maybe I should go to sleep now, it is kinda late.. 1 AM..
