Bluesman 0 Posted August 7, 2003 If you take DVD seriously you buy neither. Compared to a good dedicated Panasonic, Pioneer or SONY none of the console DVD players comes even close in quality. Better buy a good DVD player if you need that. I would personally recommend a GBA instead. It's portable and has games that are actually fun to play. I've found few games on X-BOX (none actually) that has any different gameplay to what I already have on my PC. I don't see the point frankly. GC has merits because it has games that are completelly different to anything you can get on PC. It may have fewer games than PS2 but who wants 2000 crap games when you can have 2-3 super games . Who wants to play a FPS on a console anyway? Everyone knows that a mouse and keyboard has no equivalent when it comes to playability. Last console I owned was a Dreamcast and the games it had was nothing like my PC games. I was quite angry when SEGA discontinued it. Btw. Some here has suggested to mod the X-Box/Ps2 which initself is highly illegal in most countries. In addition if you mod your X-Box you can defiantelly forget X-Box live. For one reason only multiplayer on a console can rival a PC. It's when you play football/soccer/hockey or a fighting game. It's definatelly fun to sit next to a few buddies with beers cheering and booing etc. Usually leads to some real fighting too . Playing people on a network I can do perfectly well on my PC. Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX 0 Posted August 7, 2003 The Gran Turismo series are very well known and many ppl think they're great. Â I don't like racing games that's why i've never played GT but if you ask me the GT games are pretty good for ppl who like to race...I can play FPS with a pad, sure, it's very hard in the beginning, having to stear with 2 joysticks is a very very veeeeery weird feeling. Â However, this doesn't mean that it's impossible, i can play Timesplitters 2, Moh: Frontline and Hitman without having a lot of problems with my aim. Â I must admit that the first couple times you play games like this you'll probable shoot more bullets in the walls than in the enemy. But believe me, after a while, you'll get used to it and it'll be rather easy. Â Actually i must say that i think the FPS controller setup is one of the best setups you can get. Â Everytime i play a game that includes shooting i switch the controller setup (if possible). Â I like to stear with 2 joysticks... Oh, if you ever buy SOCOM US Navy Seals, you can change the controller setup too, the original setup sucks (or at least i think it sucks ). But if you take the same setup as MOH, TimeSplitters, and other games the aiming will be a lot easier... I don't like GT because the physics are wack. (Can't crash into anything = wack). Although some people might want to buy a console just to play them, IMO there are better driving games on PC. no, its not impossible to play a FPS with a pad; its just not nearly as good as with a mouse/ keyboard. Any game that gets converted is either 10x easier or has auto aim. Nobody in the world can control a console FPS as accurately as a mouse keyboard PC FPS. Badgerboy 0 Posted August 16, 2003 XBox media player - Will play every video format around (avi, mpg, wmv, etc), music (CD's and Mp3'), and browse pictures (Jpgs, gifs etc) There are many, many other things availble for the xbox, though you will need to mod it first. Have a look at this site, and look through the tutorials. Lots of useful information in there. I love my XBox, not only do I use it for games, I also use it as a media centre. red oct 2 Posted August 16, 2003 Virtural Fighter 4 is a pretty cool fighting game thats based more on realility than other cheesy fighting games that have you throwing fire balls at each other. there has been a new upgraded version that came out called Evolution that has some new characters, and other features. There is also some strange FPS thats cell shaded called XIII. Its based on some French comic. I don't know how popular the comic is, but i saw some gameplay footage on Xplay on TechTV and it does look a lot better than the recent FPS Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter. Badgerboy 0 Posted August 16, 2003 PS2? It doesn't even have a dedicated 3d graphics card! The Xbox a far superior machine. It can be fully modified, and store huge amounts of data on it's hard drive. I stuck a 120gb hardrive on my Xbox, and installed all my games on it. Now when I want to to play, I simply select them from the drop down menu, and now that there is no disk swapping they run faster. Of course the PS1, and N64 emulators (to name a few) are there if I wish to use them, as well as the ability to stream my large cataloge of movies and music off my server via the built in DHCP server. Read errors? You musthave a bad box, I've only crashed mine when I ran some beta software on it. Those PS2's on the other hand, have BAD overheating problems. (I can bring up the CPU and system temp onscreen on the XBOX). If you like power and flexibility choose the Xbox. If you just want to play games, get a PS2. The XBOX crash rate is faaar superior then any other consoles, Microsoft should keep fixing Windows instead of starting a crappy console, it made them lose alot of money according to a console magazine. The problem is with the fan burning out. Newer production models had that fixed, but if yours is an older one, keep an eye on it, just in case it melts! As for Microsoft losing money, I'm not surprised. People have been buying up Xbox's, modding keyboards and mice for them, and using them as PC's (Running Linux - Cheap portable, powerful PC! ). The companies make the money back on the games, but MS are flogging lots of consoles, but not the same amount of games. Pretty much what I do, I use my PC mainly for gaming and the Xbox as a media centre.
red oct 2 Posted August 16, 2003 Only FF game i own is VIII. I liked the story and the Characters, but i wish they would get rid of the stupid turn based Combat system and go w/ a combat system like Shinobi has. there is also another game that i remembered called State of Emergancy that has you run amok in a city riot. One problem i did have though was where the laser lens was unable to read a disc. No big deal though, i contacted sony and even though my warrenty for it expired, they still covered the cost of the repairs. i did had to pay for the shipping charges, but its was definitly better than having to pay half of what i payed for it just to repair it. SKULLS_Viper 0 Posted August 17, 2003 Oh, and I was wondering, can an Xbox read CD-RW's?I plan on burning some things to CD-RW, and then give 'em to a friend who has only an Xbox. Will it also read both audio and video from a CD-RW on the Xbox? (also, would the Xbox be able to read .asx format?) (I guess I can't copy to CD-RW, it says it needs a music CD-R.So I'll go buy some Music CD-Rs, and try and burn it.)But will an Xbox still be able to read asx, on a music cd?It has video to)
Badgerboy 0 Posted August 17, 2003 Yes a Xbox will read CD-RW's, but has some trouble with certain brands of CDR. The easiestway totransfer stuff fromyour PC is to use a program called 'Flash FXP' (Post here if you need instructions on how to use it), but for giving stuff to your mates, its easier to burn onto CD RW.
