Rifleman 0 Posted July 6, 2003 hmmm.... wish they would have atleast told me something before they released it, since its my model and stuff the textures seem to be pretty good quality but they are not realistic for the HTTV if anyone else knows anything about this, i would like to know
Major Fubar 0 Posted July 6, 2003 Releasing retextures without permission is not nice...
Peanut 0 Posted July 6, 2003 The textures are nice because they're Marfys. The news on ofp.at names Rifleman and Marfy, so atleast he gives credit...
dm 9 Posted July 6, 2003 I did tell Wipman more than once to contact you first Rifleman. I can PM you the logs if you want, but it looks like he couldnt be bothered.... Also, I can gaurentee that he did not get Marfy's permission to use his textures. I know that because Marfy has been away for a few days, and would not have a chance to reply to any emails. So Wipman - I'd think twice about doing this sort of thing again.

Acecube 0 Posted July 6, 2003 C'mon folks the internet is one bloody big copier machine, isn't it. You all don't have ripped mp3's, do you?
miles teg 1 Posted July 6, 2003 That's not an excuse. The OFP mod community should always strive to be respectful to each other. If he made no attempt to get permission before releasing that addon, that's just plain disrespectful. Unless he apologizes for his actions I hope that his addon is boycotted by mission makers and that other mods exlude him. A few others have made similar mistakes in the past, but they learned their lesson and quit taking people's textures and models without permisson. Most addon makers and texture artists have no problem if people use their work as long as they ask for permission first and give the original creator credit for their work. It's not hard to do that. Just a simple email. So anyways please don't compare this to pirated mp3's because it's not the same thing. If everyone started just releasing other people's hard work without permission, then you'd see a lot of very talented texture artists and addon makers leave the OFP community. That's why I think it's important to guard against this sort of thing by policing our own. The only good thing is that at least in this case proper credit was given from what I understand. But I hope he asks permission anyways even though he's already released it. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
blackdog~ 0 Posted July 6, 2003 he asked me to ask for permission but it looks like gunship put it on the news site before i had the chance to ask rifleman... then i told rifleman but this was only just after it got released...
miles teg 1 Posted July 6, 2003 Ah ok. Well that clears things up then. Just a miscommunication. And Marfy? I remember he used to get really pissed about people using his textures without permission. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

But to me (that is solely I.M.H.O) the whole hassle about credits, permissions and all the other psedo-beaurocratic things seem VERY immature. Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted July 6, 2003 I don't like the fact it's released without permission, but since it is; DOES ANYONE HAVE A LINK?? I like it!

It is just a simple matter of respect. That's all there is to it. If you treat people disrespectfully you can expect to be treated the same way in return. At any rate I hope that this issue regarding the HTTV gets sorted out or that Rifleman can make similar textures for it in a future update since Wipman's version overwrites the original Rifleman's HTTV. Eviscerator 0 Posted July 6, 2003 Well, theres also the point of people taking the work you may have spent days making, and then rehashing it into something ugly (not talking about this case), or someone then claiming that they made it and taking all the credit, there really is no way to police people in the ofp communities actions other than news sites and community members trying to take a moral stance, and as was suggested, boycotting, ignoring or refusing to host or link to the addon. If addon makers want to release their addons as open source then so be it, but there are some that wont for various reasons, and their wishes should be respected. Rifleman 0 Posted July 6, 2003 it doesnt bother me that someone retextured and released, i would have just liked to known about it also, unless the bugs are fixed i dont really want any more versions of it out there now, it may look nice but if any of you have seen pictures of the real one, they are not realistic for it at all some people care about that and some dont, i personally do care if one looks realistic

No bugs are fixed..still driving the english way He should atleast made a new pbo. the one he made replaces yours ! Someone pease help Rifleman to fix the bugs. Major Fubar 0 Posted July 7, 2003 Yep, the fact that it overwrites Rifleman's original addon makes it even worse...not only using other peoples work w/o permission, but doing it in a way that guarantees they can't have the original addon on their PC if they install the ripoff version. But yes, I hope when Rifleman releases his new version, he a desert testured version too...
Rifleman 0 Posted July 7, 2003 desert texture would be easy for me, i already have desert textures for it, they are the same textures, just desert color but i still need help with the bugs, the one where the driver sits on the wrong side, and how to make the passenger not have his gun, and the blue muzzle flash, and thats it as far as i know
Sxep 0 Posted July 7, 2003 hmm i think the driver position is fixable in O² or not? about the gun, it happens in the BIS hummer to, and i think thats no big problem. You could set his position a bit more left so it won´t stick out.
Eviscerator 0 Posted July 7, 2003 For the driver sitting on the wrong side all you have to do is move the proxy, and swap it with the passenger, there will be a triangle near each seat, this tells ofp where to place the soldier model, just move those. As for getting rid of the passengers weapon, put this in the CfgWeapons section of your config: hideWeaponsDriver = true; hideWeaponsGunner = true; hideWeaponsCommander = true; hideWeaponsCargo = false; Changing true for the type of person you want to hide weapons for and false for those you want to still display their weapons. Rifleman 0 Posted July 7, 2003 for the driver on the wrong side, it doesnt do it on my computer, only on a few peoples ill try that to hide the weapons you know anything about the blue muzzleflash? thx
