"Al-Qaeda joke sparks air scare" I am a bit surprised they only suspened the Swiss air traffic controler from work. Do something like that here in the states and you become liable to be sent to old smoky.

Well in my opinion the man responsible should have been arrested on site. Why do they need to "think about it"? It's a no brainer, he should go to jail. Not only that, but this is the same air traffic control tower that was responsible for that accident involving the passenger airliner that collided w/ the russian cargo plane.

this could have led to the destruction of a french military transport helicopter which , knowing the context was filled with troops . So , if you find that risking the life of 20+ soldiers and the job of a fighter pilot because of a bad joke is funny then .....

On topic though. This guy wasnt thinking. Wasnt even funny. Im glad no one got hurt. I think his punishment should be those pilots kicking the crap out of him. But that wouldnt really be legall. So, I hope he gets some well spent time with a guy named "bubba" in jail.

lol i laffed when i read the story what an idoit. well remember last year when here in the UK some people were talking about planes getting hijacked on the plane and it caused panic and the plane was intercepted by 2 tornado f3's. look whos getting paranoid now....

I just hope the people in charge of air traffic security around the globe have thought about this. There should be more than tagging a name to defining a target.

not when it's for the security of the diplomats and affair men of the G8 , if a single , i mean if a single thing had slipped through all the security , the world would have been litterally decapitated and the french security services would have been blamed for that , so in the case of this kind of meeting , better have too much security than not enough

It's funny now because no one was killed, but I think the air traffic controller didn't realize it was possible for anyone to shoot the heli down just because of a label. I mean, you need a bit of communication before you intercept and shoot down any aircraft right?

in that case it was a matter of seconds before the helicopter reached the critical zone , so , no way to make a full interception procedure , and since this plane was labelled ..... , it was considered as a threat and had normally to be shot down
