The Iraq Thread 2

Recommended Posts

No no no, poor wording on my part.. I mean crazy as in "Wild", "off the wall, yet true", etc.. Not as in you need to be institutionalized "crazy". biggrin_o.gif Reread the post with that in mind, and you will see there was no disagreement. (I HAVE read about Sub incidents, which will also be brought to light upon re-reading. The grounded mini sub was also an eye opener, if you knew what you were looking at. wink_o.gif )

How about the other way around? S.Korea Wants to Send Iraq Troops Without Delay wink_o.gif

  [b said:
Quote[/b] ]SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea (news - web sites) will not delay sending more troops to help U.S.-led forces in Iraq (news - web sites) once parliament approves the plan, President Roh Moo-Hyun said on Wednesday.

Although the opposition has a majority in parliament, Roh is considered likely to secure approval for the deployment because the main opposition Grand National Party supports the plan. But it is not a foregone conclusion.

Roh's latest comments on the issue came at a meeting with a parliamentary fact-finding team, which recommended on Tuesday that South Korea send more troops to Iraq, although it acknowledged the soldiers could become the target of militants there.

Gunmen shot dead two South Korean civilian contractors and wounded two in Iraq on Sunday, but Roh's government pledged to go ahead with its deployment plan.

Roh has yet to decide what kind of troops to send -- many people are against sending combat forces.

"There will be much debate to pass the parliamentary bill on sending troops to Iraq, but the government will pursue it without any delay," Roh told the fact-finding team, according to a statement from the presidential Blue House.

A close alliance with the United States was vital because of its role in resolving the crisis over North Korea (news - web sites)'s nuclear weapons program, he said.

North Korea urged the South to change its decision to send troops to Iraq, according to the South's Yonhap news agency.

Sorry for starting that OT Ralph, but after all, it's not every day you learn that SK police are using Russian ASW Choppers to hunt NK subs smile_o.gif.

Would you please welcome new members in a more moderate way  biggrin_o.gif . We have time enough to verify what is being said, or do you already want to loose new contributors after 10 posts? I enjoy the fresh breeze of new members and I am not getting involved in this rethorical Blitzkrieg. (I wouldnt have the know how anyway )

So in case you are Marine, well could you please do me a favour and ensure that german DHL planes in Iraq are better protected.  ... tounge_o.gif

....and in case Mr Bush comes to visit your cantine too ..well then please get a plate with potato pie, write my name into it with your finger and throw it into his determined face. Now this is an expression of free speech isnt it, if I realy would like to harm him I would offer him a bavarian Bretzel.

But you are probably lucky and meet Mrs Clinton. Shame enough a women has as much guts as the president.,

The Stryker: US Military`s Great White Hope against Iraqi RPGs

DEBKAfile Special Military Analysis

At Camp Udairi in Kuwait, US armament technicians are working extra-hard in giant hangars on a Christmas gift for US troops plagued by guerrilla attacks in Iraq. It is the Stryker, an eight-wheel drive armored combat vehicle, the first new armored carrier to enter service in the US army since the Abrams tank was introduced in the 1980s.

The reason they say it's their hope against RPG's is the metal cage around the vehicle, which is designed to set off the RPG before it impacts the vehicle itself. The Russians started doing this a while back in Chechnya, even using chain link fences to get the same effect....however, the wheels and the top of the vehicle are still unprotected. I imagine there are plenty of second-story buildings in Iraq.

I agree. Makes me wonder what the excitement about Strykers is all about.

Actually, the money is now circulating quite nicely in Canada now smile_o.gif

Though, I doubt the government is going to do anything useful with it. biggrin_o.gif

Well we are set mostly on Peace keeping, and can't even keep that up to a great extent anymore. I wonder what CEO Martin will do.

Who says I'm new...LOL been around these forums for a long time, just under my old name (302_Dragon) I mainly post in the addons forums and the OFP Combat Photography forum.

No need to be moderate...lol I'm a big Boy I can handle my own, as USMC Sgt Wulf found out the hard way.  wink_o.gif

On topic: As far the Stryker, if the Army wants to keep them from getting trashed they need to keep them out of the cities. Thats where they are getting hit the most.

The only way to go against gurrilla war tactics is to use them ourselves. everyone thought this war was going to be like the first Gulf war, go in airstike for a week and call it quits. Well we did more then just push the Iraqis back into Iraq, we went in after them, into their homeland and took over...the military and the public should have expected this to happen.

Anyway before I lose track of what I'm trying to get at...I think that we should keep our big armor out of the cities as much as possible. The US and coalition forces have enough technology to take on any enemy force without heavy or light armor. We tried to over come North Vietnam with heavy armor and airstikes and accomplished very little in the big scheme, but as far as our ground troops, they were pushing the VC and NVA back...they fought a gurrilla war the way it should be fought, we need to do the same thing in Iraq or we won't get anywhere and that country will get thrown into the middle of a huge civil war.

Thats my 2 cents

Why do people think its another vietnam? forgods sake, its a peace keeping duty right now, thats all it is, and we have hardly lost any soldiers. Say 1000, but hell, we gots tons of them man, even though every life is precious.

Anyhow, the attackers have lost more lifes than we, so much more. If we had lost the amount of soldiers that the terrorists and the fighters against the US forces and UN forces, than one thing would be true............we'd have lost alot of military might

It's not another Vietnam. It's another Afghanistan (Soviet, 80's, not the recent one).

What UN forces? There are no UN forces in Iraq.

We killed well over 1.5 million Vietnamese before we lost in Southeast Asia, suffering a little less than 60,000 deaths for our part. Not particularly relevant, but it does show you that a good kill/loss ratio does not necessarily indicate who's winning.

edit: multitasking sucks
