Fastest server ??

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone had a 3Ghz OFP server yet?? Or what is the fastest server in the community??

I know my new one wont be as I belive SWEC have a XP2400 overclocked to 2.7Ghz, I know Shrikes Zues servers are pretty fast on 2.2Ghz. Stoners and Fraghaus have usually been pretty fast too.

So Come on who reckons they have the fastest server in the community, someone out there got a overclocked 3.06Ghz ??

Would have to be 100Mbit connection to unleash the tru speed !!!

Ahhh if only OFP would support multithreading....I could simply add up and say we have 4.4 GHz Xeon...but, alas, it doesn't!

However it allows us to run 2 pretty fast 34 player servers on the machine.....and I am sure we have the coolest looking server around...as we all know, in the end it's all about looking good! tounge_o.gif

http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/eserver/xseries/x345.html

The "fastest" Server I've heard of belongs to SCR squad, as far as I know they use a 4 x 2,4 GHz Xeon server.

All the bragging aside I must admit I am not too impressed with its performance, I've seen servers with lower specs performing better (SHoP). Maybe it's due to some Linux network settings which I don't know....any tip would be greatly appreciated.

I think an AthlonXP clocked to 2.7ghz would give any P4 a run for their money...though those Xeon proccessors are workhorses.

Dunno how much difference a XEON would make over a standard P4 when it comes to ofp ded servers.

I think Stoner's House of Pancakes is the fastest server out there, especially for US players...

Some servers that say that they are on multiple OC3 connectivity are usually on a shared network which causes the lag.

and for those who cant be bothered to read that, I think this is the fastest of Vets 3 servers he runs on his LAN.

Quote[/b] ]Here are the specs of the brand new server2:

CPU = P4 2.53 Gighz

RAM = 1 Gigabyte

RAM Speed = 1.066 Gighz RDRAM

Hard drive = 120 Gig, 8MB cache Western Digital

Video card (wont help a dedicated server much) = Geforce4 Ti 4600 128MB

Cable Modem Bandwidth (as of 2:00am Eastern 6/3/2003) = 5Mbit download and 950Kbit upload.

in order to conserve bandwidth, the council minus me may decide soon to password some of the servers so that server 2 can make better use of it. Harkonin will lead some tests to determine if this idea will work or not with the passwording.

My OFP server is pretty quick

Based on an Abit IC7-G Canterwood (i875P) Motherboard

Pentium 2.8GHz 800MHz FSB

1GB DDR400 Corsair 2-2-2-5 RAM

RAID 0 WD Raptor WD360 10,000 RPM Array (70GB)

GF4 Ti 4200 Graphics Card

Intel CSA Gigabit Ethernet - CSA takes the load of PCI Bus so much faster throughput (Measuded at 846 MB/s [RAMDisk -> RAMDisk])with reduced CPU load.

This runs OFP Dedicated server brilliantly, the problem is external connectvity.

At home I am limited to DSL upload which is a measly 256 Kbps = 30KB per second.

LAN play with a Gigabit Network Switch it is phenomenal.

PS, performance is brilliant, so I have not overclocked for OFP, however it can run easily at 3.2 GHz

I think Fraghous... OC12 I think they got.. or was that another 1? I dont see it in the Flashpoint listings anymore.

They can support a game up to 64 on 64 with barely any lag at all, if all others peoples connections are acceptable and you are willing to wait until the host hits the launch button.

FragHaus is on an OC192 direct backbone fiber run. We still have OFP as well as just about any other FPS game.

FragHaus OFP server is a high end system... but we never reveal specs.  tounge_o.gif

FYI: FragHaus holds the record for most players on one server at a time. 142 was reported on Gamespy with 102 confirmed active in-game (the exact number is above 102 but couldn't be confirmed due to chaos). Yes there was some lag... but what do you expect.  wink_o.gif

ok Ive seen alot about hardware here but what about Operating System. Any preferences of Win 2000 vs Linux. Im running 7.2 without a hitch. Is one easier to manage. Does one run the game any better. What comments do you have.

Windows is far easier to manage.

Don't listen to Kegetys unless you are a linux freak tounge_o.gif

FragHaus is co-located, I'm guessing networked with other computers... I get a high ping on that server. Where is it?

I think that Fraghaus was the fastest when 1.46 was out but when they move to 1.91 the performance wasnt as good anymore for some reason. I used to play other games on their server and they always performed good. Even thought I get super low pings there, when there is like 30 sometin ppl it start becoming laggy. So I'd say Stoners is the fastes though its not up too much.

Well after the to 1.91 we were tweaking the server for Linux.

We have no problems with people over 30.

lol every map we play has 30 and it runs smooth.

Were still the original 24/7 fastest server on the net for OFP and many online games still.

When the IM swec server had 10Mbit i remember that we played CTF everon whit 50 ppl, and only like 5-7 ppl had desync.

But when we tried to make a new record whit 80 ppl the server said "No more"smile_o.gif

The server is a P4 2.4 but heavy wink_o.gif modified by Lt_Dan_Sweden to run faster.
