Su27, mig21, jag, bucc finals

Just uploaded the final versions of the plane set beta-ed last

week. Go here:

Changes:

1) Improved texturing - the final textures aren't spectacular,

but they're as good as they're gonna get with me doing them.

2) AA missiles slightly faster.

3) A2G rocket pods added to Jaguar.

4) Higher threat values - planes more readily engage in A2A.

If the planes aren't aggressive enough for you, I've had good

results upping the skill level in the mission builder.

5) AI _slightly_ better delivery of unguided bombs - still not

recommended.

Please confine any comments to this new thread. Also, if

anyone wants to take the PBO's to bits and make

statics/improved scripts/anything else, go ahead. Just

mention where you got the original mesh, eh?

Also, as a bonus, and an antidote for all those Pzkpfw:

First of all,

Job well done on those planes.

Some minor points though.

I believe all planes are A10's in the HUD.

So when i lock onto a russian mig21 it tells me i am locking onto an allied A10 thunderbolt.

This is quite confusing, and it might affect the AI's capability to recognise them as enemies. (dunno of thats true, but it sure confuses me wink.gif )

It's really hard to make the SU-27 turn. (i play with mouse)

Apart from that it manages to go on supersonic boom speeds byond 800 M/ph.

This makes it quite hard to do any dog fights with this plane, let alone get a simple lock on a manouvrable plane like the bucanneer.

Really nice work Footmunch biggrin.gif Is there any way to solve the problem that on the jaguar and mig, the gear is down when you start off as flying (though the action menu says its up), you can sort it out by putting it down then back up again, but I was wondering if there is any way to stop this glitch?

Very nice work Footmunch biggrin.gif Also dont work your ass off for a rear gunner (is it possible?) Since many IL-2 version didn't have a rear gunner. But this looks great good work mate. And yes please fix the gear bug, it's quite annoying sad.gif

Final version?confused.gif Awww... please Footmunch don't drop them the way they are. The Bucaneer's are now missing their cannon and they still don't have a rear seat gunner position. In addition they have some missing textures on the little antennae on the top of the aircraft and from the inside cockpit view, the refueling probe is untextured.

I do really like the improvements on the other aircraft however although I do wish that the flight handling on the Su-27 can be improved so that it is as maneuverable as the bucanneer (which flys really really well by the way).

A bomber version of the Jaguar would also be awesome.

Anyhoo.... I hope that you continue to upgrade these fine aircraft.

..... At the very least will we ever see a South African Airforce Bucaneer? smile.gif

Useful and various planes. Maybe there are some minor problems but I would never have done better than you, so... wink.gif nice job old chap and thank you! biggrin.gif

About the IL-10 Sturmovik, the choice of weapons id good be it's overarmored : 1 Sturm vs 3 vulcans crewed by elite colonels, and the the plane don't even have a scratch ! crazy.gif OFP 1.91? It only needs now a red star to storm et create havoc in panzers'columns! smile.gif

..er, unless SAAF did some sneaky mods that we never got to hear about, the Banana never did have any cannon. And I'm not sure that the One-Winged Adjunct to the Master Race (ie the Navigators) would have appreciated being called "gunners" smile.gif .

Am looking forward to finding a working link so's I can try these out for myself.

I should think not!

The correct term is "Ballast."

That Jaguar flight model is just pure fun. for the first time since I bought OFP, I've been able to take off, fly a plane in the valleys at over 500 kph at no more than 50 AGL, and bring it back to a safe landing.

I call them "gunners" because in OFP they are called "gunners". Of coarse I know they are navigators. I'm not familiar with the Bucaneer navigator's job, but on other two seater aircraft the navigator is sometimes also the weapons operator, radar operator, and ECM operator.

It looks like you're right about the cannon however as I don't see any mention of cannon or cannon-pods used on the Bucaneer (although I wouldn't be surprised if the SAAF used cannon pods on it).

I just noticed that the Jaguars all have texture problems that they didn't have before in the first version. At a distance they all turn white.

Muddy-funster.

Fortunecity have 'disappeared' the web site.

I'm trying to find out why right now, but if they're

not forthcoming, I'll put the files up somewhere else.

If anyone feels like mirroring, let me know, and I can

ftp the files. If anyone with spare space already has them,

please put them up, and post here.

The long range white Jags are a PAA/PAC confusion on

my part. If you can wait until I release the bomber Jag, I'll

fix it then, and re-release the fighter Jag as well.

The SAAF Bucc is in my to-do pile. It's just that after working

on the model for a few weeks, I could do with a break. The

model may include a gunner/cargo, as soon as I find some

cockpit pictures, and a description of what the 'ballast'

actually does in the plane. As a default, the gunner may

just get an artificial optika that is a down-view under the

plane (simple bombsight) for better co-ordination of the

free-fall bombs.

Some of the planes are referred to as A10's because that's

what they're derived from in the class library. Just have to

use your imagination, I guess.

I am not a modder so i shouldn't ask silly questions, but is there a way to get rid of the A10 tag?

I love flyeing those buccanneers though.

Their flight model is yummy. They react to every move i want to make, their handling is just perfect.

I noticed that when the buccanneers use their MK84 "retard" bombs they always fall about 100 meters short.

Maybe this is something thats tweekable?

The AMX Tornado IDS models, by colorchanger (i think) also use retard bombs, but they are quite accurate with them. Maybe their accuracy is something you could use for inspiration. (dunno if it's possible to copy their weapon handling).

Maybe the Hawk model by Kegetys is something you can use for inspiration to sort out the cargo and navigator/gunner problem. Maybe you can even email him for some assistance?

Kewl. Sounds good Footmunch. Yeah take a break as I can imagine how burnt out you can get staring at the same models every day. I get the same way making missions which is why I bounce back and forth between missions probably the way most addon makers bounce around between different addons that they are working on just to avoid getting burnt out on them. I also agree with FinaL, checking out other addons might fix some of the problems with the bombs and with the gunner position, however I would not recommend Kegetys's Hawk as an example since in that one the gunner is sitting in the front seat. The G8 Tornado addons or the DKM mod team's OV-10 Bronco I think would be excellent addons to study in order to see how they implemented their weapons and their "gunner" position (assuming either can be de-PBO'ed). There are also a few other two seaters as well that can probably be de-PBO'ed if those can't be.
