Tried running it, got an error message saying it needed the SOAR pilots for 1.85, then CTDed when I tried it in missioneditor. So I copy/pasted bas_soar185.pbo, tried again. Got the "Needs BAS_Cargo.pbo" error message on startup, tried it in mission editor, no luck.

did you have the BAS_Cargo.pbo in your addons folder too?

You need in your addons folder:

BAS_MH-47E.pbo

BAS_MH47E_185.pbo

BAS_Cargo.pbo

BAS_SOAR185.pbo

then it will work

oh, and well said Damo, what would we do without you man? smile.gif

OK, I've got all 4 of those files in my addons folder. The mission gave me the error that it needed BAS_weap.pbo too, so I copy/pasted it. NOW it works!!! (Finally)

BUT! I dont have a body. I tried the mission intereception (or insertion, the one where you pick up the two delta squads and put them in petrovice). ended up with a beautiful... beautiful view of the chopper, but no legs to take me anywhere. crazy.gif

I think i'm missing the SOAR pilots (I have BAS_SOAR185.pbo in the addons folder) but I couldnt' find a place to download it at the BAS site.

I tried putting bas_soar146.pbo in the addons folder. This time it gave me the error message "Cannot load mission, missing addons: bas_soar146"

At this point my head exploded from frustration, excuse me while I wipe off the monitor. crazy:

I tried another mission where I'm not the pilot. I tried to load a jeep up onto the chinook to no avail (found this out when it fell out on takeoff). Then had him hold position so I could maybe have some fun. Got the notification that the position was being held, unharnessed myself, CTDd. sad.gif

This computer needs a good kick in the pants.

Hi Folks, Damo here again! One item I forgot to address in the "silly and unreasonable" category.

This is the issue of the HMMVW fitting in the back of the MH-47E...  This is explained simply.

It can't be done, and isnt done in real life. HMMVW can be slung, and in fact HMMVWs come equiped with lifting shackles front and rear permanently mounted for this purpose.

The wheel base on the HMMVW is too wide to allow it to fit inside an MH-47E. Additionally, it isnt possible to carry more than one RSOV, or M151 Jeep internally due to size and space, as well as loading requirements in real life.

So basically the point is this: If your requests are not possibilities in reality, then BAS wont be adding them. Do a little reading and research on your own folks, and give us a break.

People, if you post threads that say things as idiotic as "why cant I sling an M1 Abrams under the MH-47E" then expect to get your feelings hurt in the response.

For you folks out there that suffer from incurable intra-cranial density, the reason why you cant sling an Abrams is because it ways anywhere from 67.5 to 70 tons depending on the model and year of manufacture. Ergo, it isnt physically possible.

@damocles

i agree with you except this :

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (BAS-Damocles @ 26 April 2003,17:51)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Further, we have no obligation to provide support for anything we release, we have no obligation to answer questions, fix bugs, or return emails to anyone, this is another FREE service we provide, again giving of our time, talents and efforts to accomplish it.<span id='postcolor'>

i think it belongs to what you called respect and courtesy, (not regarding comments about bugs you previously listed in readme).

IMHO once it is public, you have a little responsibility, and EXPECT some feed back. you also have to admit that most us, the public, aren't military expert, we ALL don't have connexion with some army men etc... ALL OF US aren't specialist in O2 or texturing, 3D modeling.

Remember: we DO appreciate your hard free work for US, and just want to bring our two cents (you can take one for your royaltie), i admit it's too bad that some of us don't take the time to read the readme, or maybe they didn't understand it, they didn't even read this thread...

but i'm sure BAS' "devise" isn't : "Take that addon and shut the fuck up or just say Thank you"

voila! sorry for my bad english...

well KiKill I hate to sound like an ass but you missed the point entirely. You see, we dont charge a fee for our addons, and you arent obligated to download and use them. That being said, we are in no way obligated or responsible to support the addons we create, or fix anything that is wrong with them.

If you were to pay us however, there there would be some responsibility involved, however, your opinion as to what should be fixed, and the deadline in which to fix it, versus the amount of time it takes to do the fixing, times our fee, would dramatically change. Solve the formula (Bugs+importance / impact+deadline X BAS salary ) and guess what you get? Bohemia Interactive Studios. Which means you will get basic, quickly and cheaply done, minimally functional models that work adequetately for their purpose.

You may or may not be aware of this, but if you will read the readme file and End User License Agreement (EULA) on nearly every software product available, you will discover that not only do you not "own" the software you purchased, the company reserves the right to modify, discontinue, and cease support on the software at any time, the software companies are limited and protected in their liabilities. This includes the operating system you are using. You dont purchase software, you purchase a license to use software.

As I said, once again, We can, do, and will support our addons. we do it because we enjoy it, and we care about the community, and we take pride in our work. Enough so, that it is important to us to make the corrections to problems found. However dont take it for granted, and just try to be appreciative once in a while.

We don't expect everyone to be military experts, or have connections to the military, however we are aware that most people throught the world who play with and use our addons have access to the internet and a library. (Yeah that building with the "Paper" books in it.) If we tell you we wont do something, and give a reason why, why not research it yourself before flapping your gums? Google search works the same on a PC in Europe as it does in the US.

Thanks for your opinion, but you are incorrect.

Something else I wanted to mention while were revisiting the subject of free work, liability and responsibilty etc.

I noticed another complaint in this very thread that not only disturbed me greatly but in fact pissed me off. The thread was a complaint about not being able to download our files, and talk about BAS should have mirrored them etc.

Once again if the show fits wear it with regard to the following statements.

First of all as you are aware, BAS does not get paid for the work we do for you the community, for free. Secondly, web hosting is not free, and getting files hosted is not free. As it stands right now, not only does our founder Tigershark not get paid to put this all together, maintain a website, a development team, a developers forum, and the other various things he does, in order to bring these addons to you people, as do all of us belonging to BAS, but he PAYS for hosting out of his own pocket. With the exception of a VERY few people, we havent gotten offers to host our files, or provide space for our webs, or even a public BAS forum. Hell we dont even have a server thats adequate to use for beta testing and multi-player gaming for ourselves.

You folks have a lot of nerve and a knack for being extremely critical and demanding, however let me make you aware of one fact. These free addons we provide are only free to YOU the community. They DO cost US (Ballistic Addon Studios) money to make. Whether it be for webspace, software to do the work, our time, or the sacrifices we often make to get them to you, they arent free.

Think about that next time you want to complain and be critical. Or how about offering something to us for a change, in return for the work we do for you all?

The plain facts are these, we are currently running out of space on our website, we have to watch how many files we host, and how often we host them due to bandwidth limitations (Over a certain amount per month, comes out of Tigershark's wallet) and we have to attempt to keep the files secure as well. The software and tools we use to create these high quality addons are paid for by the members of BAS. Things such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, 3D Studio Max, Graphics Tablets, and all the various things we use to do the work.

With all these obstacles we still do the work. So please, give us a break, and some thanks, and think before you speak. Think about the cost to us before you begin useless criticisms and complaints. If these comments dont apply to you, dont take them personally. We at BAS are tremendously thankful and appreciative of those that have offered space and hosted files for us. We hope to continue this in the future. The whole concept is team work. Together we can make this all work out from start to finish.

about that responsibility, my point of view is, you don't make addons for your own and decide to kindly share it with the ofp community, you make addons for the community. plus, you want your addons the most accurate and realistic. so, if your creation doesn't reach this, you have to make it so, it's you're duty (or your mission as you write it) : sorry but you have to provide support.

about critics, you seem to take them as a blame. it's too bad you don't see people appreciating your work. you should see those posts as an effort to show reconnaissance in addition to the thanks for your work, as it is made for free. don't imagine any comploted competition to find the most bugs in your chopper.

I'm sure I speak for most people when I say I really appreciate BAS' work. It is hands down the best thing to happen to the OFP community. My deep fear is that even though most people LOVE your work the words of a few may ruin it for the rest of us. You guys should be proud to know that you have pushed the boundries of OFP addon making further than even BIS ever imagined was possible. Your addons are of such amazing quality that it is really hard to believe. All this comes at a personal COST to you guys, this is not free work, BAS members have sacrificed for us to have fun. The words of some on this board and others really make me sick, be happy we get anything from BAS. They could make these addons and just play with them as part of a small group of freinds, but no, they are kind enough to share these addons with all of us and put up with all this bullshit. Give these guys a break, sit quietly and when something comes out download it, but leave them alone in the mean time and don't pick apart each addon with a microscope. Seriously if there is something wrong you can believe these guys will fix it later on, if not it probably isint worth fixing. These addons are FAR better then even the origional unit themselves, in fact I feel cheated everytime I have to use the "old" units. The Delta/Rangers are totally awesome and the MH-47 is mind blowing. I can't wait for updates or new units, but I'm not going to harass BAS about it, its not like I could do any better and the quality is litteraly at a point that asking for more/faster pace is redundant. You can bet that as their skills get even better the amount and quality of addons will continue to grow. But please give them some peace ! Thank you BAS for your time and wonderful addons. I normally try to not say anything and let my silence show I am content smile.gif but I felt I had to show you guys some thanks.

Some people need a reallity check especially at BAS tounge.gif

I still wonder why I even bother to read what Damocles had to say  crazy.gif

I must be one of the few because many did not even took time to read the readme.txt and that was lesser boring  biggrin.gif

I think, because actually I did not read it and only play for 20 minuts with the MH-47e.

That was my 'FUN' with it biggrin.gif ...........NEXT!!

The reality check is this...

Making addons for OFP has cost me time, money and a good deal of stress...

So far i have spent upwards of Å800 on addon making/OFP in general...

There was the new GFX card (heh I needed that to play OFP) but without it, I wouldn't be making addons...

                                                       Cost: Å100

There was the neciscary Software (Photoshop etc)

                                                       Cost: Å80

Then there is the Graphics Tablet

                                                       Cost: Å80

And the cost of internet connections (nearly 3 years at Å15 a month) Again, without it I wouldn't be in the community

                                                       Cost: Å540

Also, getting these new functions to work, or doing a sesion of modeling, only to find out you have spent hours editing the wrong model, or the wroung LOD, or trying to get that little bit of the cpp or script working... many a time have I shoulted, blasphemed, sworn at the computer, be it out loud, or under my breath... It is a very high stress factor... not helped by your constant bitching, whinging, moaning, demanding...

So dont go bitching about how WE need the reality check... because how much have these addons cost you?? Nothing, nada, zip, squat... all it took was the few mins to download it and there you go... a free addon... no stress... no monetary expense from you... no lost hours making the things...

Also, Damocles is perfectly within his rights to say what he does... IF and I mean IF we were getting paid, then it would be a different story.. but we are not, so we have no obligation whatsoever to produce fixes or updates to these addons...

And to whomever said that we make tha addons for the community... well that can be interpreted in 2 ways...

1. yes we do, end of story...

2. The more truthful story is that we dont make them for YOU, but we make them for ourselves... hell, we have NO obligation at all to release these addons publically.

I think I speak for everyone in the team, when I say that we would all be much much happier, and stress free if we didnt release ANY addons, we could simply keep them within the team, and share them with a few trusted individuals... How would you like that??

Because, the way it is going at the moment, the minority of people who cannot do anything other than bitch and moan, complain, and clamber over each other to find bugs, are driving us to do just that... which would spoil it for the majority of people who love the addons, and want to do nothing else than play with them...

So our suggestion to you is this... YOU do something about the complainers... afterall the are your peers, so maybe they will listen to you, because they sure as hell havent listend to us...

If the bitching/moaning/complaining stops, then the addons will flow... until then.. you get nowt, k...

1st You need to learn to listen to a MODERATOR.

2nd Do you think I got my computer and all parts bought for it plus my Internet connection for free? just to try a addon or something biggrin.gif

3th as far as I remember I never posted before in BAS topics

not here and at OFPEC and surtenly never moaned or whatever you might think.

4th I downloaded the Rangers\Delta stuff last week for a mission called Highway or something.

Else I would not have it anyway and I did not play the mission ,missing the pilots.

I downloaded the required addon after the release of the mh-47e. just for my 20 minuts of 'FUN' with it.

Get rid of the attitudes some of you at BAS and maybe I start to like you in time.

For now I only like the people who never talks about money but just want to make addons for gameFUN\HOBBY and show some RESPECT towards BiS and the community themselfs.

Be a bit more thankfull yourself that BiS lets you mesh around

and If you want to make money out of THEIR PRODUCT you know where to contact BiS and make the deal they have for you and lets see if you can produce a 'succesfull' MOD for OFP1.

I wont spend any money on it thats for sure.

Now it`s time to listen to the Moderator else this topic is closed and I dont want that to happen.
