After the initial confusion, the only loose end that turned up was one missing trooper, who was tasked to guard duty near the tent. After a short search, they found the guy hiding in a bunker in the camp. Well, naturally they want to inquire as to what the hell happened, so they flex-cuffed the bastard and are probably grilling him as we speak.<span id='postcolor'>

I'm wondering about this guy's religious affiliation.  Hope he's not a Muslim.

Well, it's sun-up in Iraq, and the first set of daylight CAS flights are beginning to take off from the carriers in the Persian Gulf. With the 3rdID inside of 40 miles to Najaf, beginning to hit RG units in strength, we have the makings of a pivotal day. Let's see what happens.

edit- Colonel Ben Johnson of the 101st ABD has gone on record saying that he got some shrapnel in the arm from the grenade attacks @ Camp Pennsylvania. And yeah, I really hope he isn't a Muslim, as that will ignite a shitstorm of epic proportions.

Where did u get information about Basrah? All news sites I look at say that coalition forces decided not to "liberate" it until later in the war. How the hell are we suppose to know what's going on when only the guys who are fighting in Iraq are the only ones who know what's really going on! sad.gif

About RAAF operations on the Gulf. F/A-18s have been operating around the clock flying escort missions and are armed with 2000lb laser guided bombs for targets of oppertunity. One such target has already been destroyed but a second target was not fired on as the identity of the target could not be confirmed to the pilot's satisfaction and the mission was aborted.

This is all from Lt Gen Cosgrove and a few other high ranking ADF personnel such as McNaran the commander in the field.

Have any of you non-Australians heard about the 3 Iraqi barges that were captured by the HMAS Kanimbla? with over 60 sea mines on board. The ADF is giving comprehensive briefings everyday (more often than others it seems and in more detail)

He was African American, so it's a definite possibility. Also, 2 Kuwaiti translators were apprehended as well. They found one of the 4 missing grenades in his gas mask bag. Soldiers and journalists nearby heard him reply, "It was me" or something to that effect when angry soldiers were cuffing him and asking him if he was the one who tossed the grenades into the tents. One man has died from the incident already. This guy is going to get a 5.56mm enema from a firing squad in the very near future.

E6Hotel, no offense about the jarhead crack, just a little, friendly interservice rivalry!

Tex, where did you get the information that Basra has fallen? I'm getting the exat opposite infromation here: Basra has not fallen and there is heavy fighting in the area. Coalition troops have taken the suburbs of Basra several times only to be faught off. According to Swedish news the fight is far from over.

No offense, of course.   wink.gif

although there are blacks who turn to Islam, let's not jump to conclusions based on ethnicity.

Nah, Navy weather guesser (AG2). I served six years all told both active and reserves.

Okay, clarification- the cable news (again) kind of exaggerated. The source is a Pentagon official, and what he actually said was 'Basra is largely under Coalition control', whatever that means.

I'm not jumping to conclusions, just saying its a possibility due to the fact that African Americans do represent a significant portion of the American Muslim population. No negative connotations intended. I don't think it matters if he's a muslim, christian, jew or martian, he's a complete shitbird who, if found guilty deserves to be gone muy pronto.

Reminds me of that joke...

A sailor and a marine are using the head together. they get done and the sailor starts to wash his hands. The marine zips up and starts to leave. the sailor sayd 'Hey, jarhead, didnt they teach you in the Marines to wash your hands after taking a leak?!?'

The Marine shrugs and says 'Nah..they just taught me not to piss on my hands.'

I have been looking and according to the Beeb, the fighting has tapered off, but is still occuring. I wouldnt say Basra has been 'captured' at this point.

exactly lol.

Another thing the official said was that Coalition forces are engaged in "mopping up operations", clearing out the last pockets of resistance

Sorry if its a bit off topic, but another Navy/Marine Corp quip:

What the difference between sailors and marines?

Sailors like to get drunk and fight, Marines like to fight and then get drunk.

What a crock of shit...I'm sure we'd send just 20 paratroopers to capture baghdad. Al-Alam needs to get their shit sorted out big time. I get frustrated when i read crap like that.

All I heard about were two Naval aviators who MIGHT have been captured after ejecting from their F/A-18F over Baghdad today. The Pentagon hasn't confirmed this yet.

Also, I saw some video of the Aussies catching those barges with the mines. They hid them in 50 gallon drums. Good work!
