New ak-47 addon

Recommended Posts

Very nice addon - textures are fantastic, nice and smooth...the wooden foregrip and stock textures are superb. The model itself is very well done, with some small improvements over the BIS one.

One strange thing I noticed (perhaps not the fault of the addon itself) was the behaviour of the ejected cases when they hit the ground - they bounce up very quickly, and quite high.

It doesn't matter, it's just a little odd...

Fantastic addon - great for the Resistance smile.gif

I basically echo Mr Snrub on this. The model and textures are first rate. It almost looks out of place in the hands of the standard BIS units with their low res textures. Looks great with KOCMOC's Alpha Spetznaz though.

If Smith is listening, would you consider creating an AK-74 of this quality for the game? smile.gif

I quite like the bouncy shell casings, it looks funny.

Yes i think we need a makeover pack for all the mainstream weapons in OFP that look a bit grainy, like the m16 which could do with some more polygons and more detailed model.

now im not an expert on weapons here, but can someone show me a significant differance between teh AK47and the AK74

and also i agree with jinef, alot of great addon makers out there are makin a whole slew of newer greater addons, but could one or two of you flashpoint gods (addons makers) fix up the old BIS stuff? i started on an M2A2 but i dont have the time anymore to do it, so i was forced to abandon the project yet give it up to whoever wants it

If you're referring to the in-game weapons, the only really noticeable difference is a slight difference in the rate of fire. Other than that they're pretty much the same...some people think that the AK47 (with a 7.62mm round) should pack a heavier punch...

Yeah I agree with those above, it'd be great to see a high-res replacement pack for BIS weapons - I think earls' keen to do a Russian weapons pack at some point...

Nope, in OFP the only difference is the name. I'm not sure, but the dispersion may be different. Other than that, the AK47 and AK74 are identical.

In OFP, the models are slightly dif actually, and the texture too, but in real life, the only difference is really caliber. And the ak-47 should not pack a heavier "punch" because even though it has a larger caliber bullet, the 5.56 is better armor piercing and since OFP has no "stopping power" effect the Ak74 should just be more powerful (and accurate).

An AK74 fires 5.45x39, not 5.56

It is a "faster" round, with a hollow section behind the tip.

It is designed so the tip of the bullet will basically collapse over to one side when it impacts flesh, causing it to yaw.

They are not armor piercing

Aren't hollow pointed bullets 'illegal' for normal combat?

There is something I love about a gun that has real wood on it. All the new guns are nice and all but I love the craftsmanship of the wood ones. biggrin.gif

They are not "hollow points"...they are FMJ bullets with a hollow cavity inside the projectile, just behind the tip.

On impact, the hollow cavity collapses...causing the bullet to "yaw" (make a change in direction) while moving through flesh.

Hollow points are not jacketed at the tip, and they have the tip "hollowed out" to cause them to expand on impact.

The pic below is of a 5.56 NATO FMJ round, next to a .45 hollow point (I shot up all of my 5.45x39 the other day, so this will have to do for now)

5.45 is similar in size to the 5.56 pictured, (the projectile is a little more narrow, and slightly longer...with the case necked back a little farther.)

So picture a bullet similar looking to this 5.56 round (considering the differences mentioned above) with a hollow cavity inside the projectile, that you can not see.

Back on ropic, The model and the textures are outstanding, but why does it use custom mags instead of BIS ones?

And i guess it would look better in the hands of partisan or at least Spetznaz unit as AK47s aren't issued to regular infantrymen.

there is super textures on it!

Very good job Smith made.

I'm only going on what Avon has in her FAQ smile.gif

Is there any actual way of replacing the BIS version of the AK with this fantastic new one? Can it be done with simple De-PBO'ing and swapping/renaming files, ie model files and the skin/texture files (guessing here), or is there much more to it than that?

I always wondered why there are not more addons that actually replace existing things in the game. I would love some of the other weapons to be reskinned, and also some of the vehicles. The M1 Abrams could really do with a higher resolution texture... but even if one was made or exists, it seems unlikely that you could just overwrite the current BIS one. Why cant this be done?

BAM.

It'd cause multiplayer issues, OFP doesn't like it if someone on a server doesn't have the same config as the server.
