HellToupee 0 Posted January 30, 2003 i fly choppers key board and joystick and use mouse for aiming the v80s gun(wish it would be auto tracking in the verticle axis), for planes i use stick and throttle, its alot fun dog fighting planes online at tree top level as he makes darning moves close to trees and buildings. I think thats whats causing the problems so ill need to go back and recheck to see if theres anything new that could help. Apart from mucking up the rudder when i use it with choppers it also affects the view snapping back to its original position when i use the hat switch to look around
HellToupee 0 Posted January 31, 2003 the twist rudder is essiential i dont know how i managed in il2 or ofp without one.

I use my cougar+rcs for planes only.<span id='postcolor'> Oh no! There he is again bragging with his Cougar! Seriously, though, in the beginning I flew OFP choppers with mouse/keyboard combo (because v1.0 didn't support joystick for controlling helicopters! but after the first patch I quickly adapted using my CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle and CH Pro Pedals. After you learn to fly with the controllers you can do pretty much anything you wish - IMHO you can't spin the chopper around with the keyboard as quickly as you can with good analog controllers. The rudder is a must have, otherwise the joystick is worthless. Still, the collective sensitivity needs a bit of tuning, even though BIS already lowered the sensitivity in one of the patches. I've always said that OFP isn't a full fledged flight simulator and it doesn't matter, but there are certain minor things that can make it become close to that with very little adjustments. dm 9 Posted February 1, 2003 @Renegade: I use a Logitech Wingman Extreme, and yes I have experienced problems with it. The solution I have found is to exit/turn off the Wingman game profiler, it causes numerous problems when turned on, such as the hat switch not working properly (continually jerks the view around), the slide throttle not working properly (full throttle being idle, and idle being full), and the twist rudder (just plain not working)... So just exit the profiler software and set the stick up manually in ofp... it works like a dream now
Harnu 0 Posted February 1, 2003 While not for CWC, the Camel is really great. It might not seem like much, but it's great for dogfights. Better than going 400 with an A10 against an SU, or being in an armed cessna
The_Replicator 0 Posted February 2, 2003 i can fly choppers easily except my landings are never precise:i usually land 50meter away with the 3/4 of the chopper damaged
mr. Duck 0 Posted February 2, 2003 Choppers are easy to fly here, just as the jets (thats when you ghet used to the controls or use a joystick). Landing and fighting in a jet is another thing... I never land manually. Not in this game. I can't even see the damn runway (and if I see it it's about 100 meters in front of me) if I'm in the cockpit. Fighting in it is easy when you're viewdistance is like 5000. Too bad mine isn't... @replicator: You should try to break (pull stick) when you're approaching an LZ. And don't drop like a brick. Chronicles 0 Posted February 3, 2003 I remember the first time i tried to fly with the UH60 , i crashed in the nearest forest after trying to gain some speed lol Then tries after tries, with the excellent gameplay provided by the keyboard+mouse , now i find any choppers very easy to fly , even the not smooth handling east one. The planes were a completly different story , i never succeeded in landing without crashing badly in the first OFP versions (1.00 and 1.20) . Then , with the help of more recent patch (that fix something about the landing) , now i can land with success , with the east and west plane 90% of the time with ease in my actual 1.46 version (the 10% i fail is if i am reading a newspaper in the same time i play ). But , for plane the keyboard+mouse combo doesnt seem to offer the same easy flying as the choppers. But with practice you can do some interesting things Stuka-like diving with the LGB are very fun. Shilkas and Vulcans are bad , very bad , stay away from those nasty things, especially when there are more than

Jinef 2 Posted February 3, 2003 OFP can cause me to tone down all my movements in a real helicopter as the OFP controls are really sensitive and i don't know if they can be changed But flying in OFP is great fun at the end of the day mainly because it's so easy and relaxing - especially against friends or even trying to recreate SAR situations with friends (my SAR 'victim' usually ends up trying to shoot me with a rifle instead of being rescued - the bastard! true i would like it if there was strong wind effects added and an option for the cyclic and anti torque to be seperated so you can fly sideways and roll (with fixed rotors anyway, wouldn't like to roll a chinook! the bloody deathtraps.) It could add to the realism and making the AI pilots land more quickly and when in safe mode they should do circuits to look like they are gauging the wind etc. But it's still a great game - now all i need is some one to make some good RAF helis! dm 9 Posted February 5, 2003 @Renegade: do you use the stick on a usb or a serial (the game port) connection? I have also found that the usb connection causes problems too... may be something to do with the game not being able to support usb operations?? not sure tho....
