hover_dude 0 Posted January 5, 2003 I had this idea that was could i refuel my b2 inflight so i tryed refueling with me in a jeep follwoing a refueling truck , u can refuel whilst moving but u have to be very close, if i was to to do this for a plane it would be more or less impossible to fly that good, but for the ai it would not be a problem, but i dont know if it will work or if it will need scripting. i have a p3d of a rough KC-135 Stratotanker does any one see a use for this, if so i will finish the model, if not i wont bother btw the b2 spirit is only needing a cockpit now, once that is done it will be ready for beta release
CrunchyFrog 0 Posted January 5, 2003 ...A mission long enough for a vehicle to run out of fuel?
hover_dude 0 Posted January 5, 2003 yeah i guess so, i guess it would look good in some cutscenes...............
peanuckle_00 0 Posted January 6, 2003 I don't see a need for it. Those jets can go on forever in a day and not need a drop of fuel. If someone wanted realistic fuel levels though it would help.
ACES_KEVIN 0 Posted January 6, 2003 I can see how it would be kinda neat for cut scenes, but i find it would probably not even be worth the hassle for the effect it would give you, but then again maybe some people would really enjoy such a thing so who knows. STS_SolidSnake 0 Posted January 6, 2003 You could make the mission start when your low on fuel i remember on the campaign a mission where you ran out of fuel and had to eject, well instead you run out of fuel and refuel in the air instead of wasting a jet. pzvg 0 Posted January 7, 2003 Ah make it, ya never know who might want the thing.
Skaircro 0 Posted January 7, 2003 There's a thread about this on OFPEC here: http://www.ofpec.com/yabbse....start=0 It does work fine. Basically as ppl have mentioned here, there isn't really a 'need' for it but it would look pretty cool! With player piloted planes it is quite hard to get into position to refuel though, and you can end up a LONG way from land. But, as you say, if you are using ai controlled planes it could work better, I didnt try that.
Guest BratZ Posted January 7, 2003 Wow great discoveries, but ya too bad the fuel and size doesnt permit running outta fuel much.I could use a ammo plane maybe, buts thats not realistic, when would you rearm in the air?
Jester983 0 Posted January 7, 2003 Its a good idea but the islands arent big enough to fly around that long. Yes there are some big islands but youd have to fly around the thing for quite some time to lose fuel. I like the idea and im sure some mission editors who are good at cutscenes could really make something like this look good. One thing though is you need to make a refueling plane. KC 135 is one. (i believe, plz correct me if im wrong). It would take time but could be usefull for certain types of missions.
Harnu 0 Posted January 7, 2003 As it was said in a previous thread like this. By the time you line up for a refueling, you'll be well past the island
-Ash- 0 Posted January 8, 2003 We considered using something along these lines in the Falklands Mod for the Vulcan 'black buck' missions.. Was basically the longest single bombing mission in history.. We were gonna use it as a cut scene, but ended up scrapping the whole operation in the end.. "The first brace of Vulcans (XM607 & XM598) left for Wideawake airfield on Ascension Island on the 29th of April. This journey was to last over 4,000 miles and took nine hours to complete. Just over twenty four hours later, in radio silence, and with all navigational lights extinguished, the two Vulcans departed, each carrying 21 one thousand pound bombs. They were escorted by four Victor tankers. Shortly after this another convoy of seven Victor tankers joined them. The thirteen planes climbed to 27,000 feet and headed south towards their target Port Stanley."
Commande'r 0 Posted January 8, 2003 I did a test, you can also refuel while flying or hovering in helicopters, it is really hard tho. But it is a good idea, also i found out that you can refuel over the LST in helicopter.
radt 0 Posted January 8, 2003 to rebastecer flying? it is this that youwants to make? WOWWWWW good look! good luck and we wait that you obtains to make this excellent work
Guest Posted January 8, 2003 why dont one of you guy's that are good in scripting write a script that makes the fuel run out faster, like 2 or 4 times faster, i think that would look more realistic.?
miles teg 1 Posted January 8, 2003 Personally I think it's a waste of time. As someone else mentioned, by the time you get your plane close to the tanker, you will have flown over the entire island. Also matching speeds is VERY difficult if not impossible to do with lots of different aircraft. They would all have to fly the same speed in level flight as the tanker aircraft addon. This would be a big problem in cutscenes. All you could hope for is some cutscenes of the planes simulating leaving the tanker aircraft bound for their missions. However if someone could make it where a bunch of fire is created if they are destroyed (since they carry all that fuel) then they might make a good ground target for attacking migs. But to be honest, I think all that work in making a tanker could be better spent in something a lot more useful like a B52 bomber, and more cargo aircraft for paratroopers, Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
