American aircraft carrier

Of course making a Carrier is possible. You just need someone that has the time and patience and will to do it.

It would not be an easy project but it is DOABLE.

The problem is, currently to have seperate planes/aircraft aboard a ship, it doesn't work. You'd have to have some very very VERY good scripting in order to keep them in place as the carrier moves.

In short, we aren't going to get one sad.gif

Without arrestor cables you need a carrier about a mile and a half long.

A mile and half long carrier would have to have two bridges smile.gif

patlabor aren't you making some kind of 'gundam thing' for OFP? Why can't you model one yourself if you are modeling a 'gundam thing'.

Good question blackdog. Unfortunately my Patlabor dream won't come true. You cant match human animations to a vehicle, or confuse ofp to think that a man is a vehicle with a cockpit and jump in and out of him. So I've failed in my dream there, but with more knowledge i will try again. The truth is I've never modeled a thing in my life.

gollum, someone already said that it's really easy to make catapults and arrestor wires. doesn't even need scripting. making the units "stick" to the carrier while it's moving might be hard, but a stationary carrier would be pretty damn cool on its own.

and blackdog, wouldn't a mile and a half long ship break up or something? i think i remember reading that long ships like that can't be built, unless they're articulated. i believe it's got something to do with the sea swell, or storms or something similar

i think it said that even the swells in the north atlantic would be too much for it to take. i could quite easily be wrong, it was a while ago, but if they could build ships that long (they'd allow much larger aircraft to deploy off carriers, saving a lot on refuelling) they would have done it, would't they? or at least tried it. and in ofp, i don't think that the game supports that long of an object. wasn't there a problem with the lsd that they had to make it shorter cos units kept falling through the deck when it was the real-world length?

and thats not even as big as a real-world carrier

I wouldn't mind a stationary aircraft carrier.

And maybe one that can move aswell.

Is it possible to alter the deck of the aircraft carrier so that vehicles can accelerate and decellerate VERY quickly on it?

(also, I can see landing on an aircrafter carrier being VERY hard anyway)

The Kiev carrier model I've been (very slowly) importing into OFP handles both helis and aircraft. Indeed, you can take-off and land a Cessna or a DKM Bronco without any need for scripted trickery. You don't even need scripted wheelbraking - but it works nicely if you want to use such a feature.

Right now, however, I'm concentrating on getting objects to move with objects when in contact with them. A static carrier is, for me, not very much fun.

well, say you land to refuel and rearm, would you be able to take off again, or would you be stuck there?

Most Naval aircraft have a very good turning circle, so if there is room to turn there should be much problem ladning and taking off again.

I'll see if I can get some more information for you guys.

By the way a new public beta of the A-6E has been released. At the moment it needs about 400ms to take-off, still working on the airbrakes so it can land within 500ms.

(ps this is with a 14000lbs payload of weapons!wink.gif

That stallion was from independence lost, some addon from BIS (right?), They had a website but it's down now.

About the carrier, I hope carrierlandings will be as easy as in falcon4.0 smile.gif .
