    Anyone got $450,000?

    By who? Rambo? Charlton Heston?

    Anyone got $450,000?

This is absolutely crazy... The Ultimate Hunting Weapon Why would anyone need one of these exactly? To be able to say, I've got the only privately-owned, legal automatic grenade launcher in the US? Or protect your militia compound, maybe? Hunting... elephants, maybe? I suppose it must be an absolute blast firing this, though!

Hey, it's important to know how much they can spend on stuff... Yeah, it has gotten a bit sidetracked, hasn't it?

I'm not a girl and I think I might That is one nice skin! Good work so far, supah, keep it up. This is one mod I am seriously looking forward to, especially if something for the army comes out as well.

Yes, I think the Hawk should be a very important plane in the Nogovan Air Force, after all it's the only trainer there is (to my knowledge anyways). They might even be the most important. They could be used as the exclusive combat plane, but then we'd not get to play with Supah's beautiful MiG. And I think that his suggestion for the airforce is the best so far. Lots of old soviet planes, rusting, decaying, decrepit, but the only planes they have in large numbers, because they only have a few of the newer western types. Here's an idea that just popped into my head. The West would like to prevent Nogova falling under the Soviet spell, so they would likely work in close co-operation with the Nogovans (which would also allow them to have more planes than they could afford to buy), so they would send troops and equipment there, to train and work with the army\air force. So there could be a flight of A-10s, or F-16s, or whatever there. Obviously, it needs to be kept realistc (the US isn't going to send over B-52s or F-117s), but this would add something to th air force, but not over-balancing it. Whatcha think? ATM i am working on the MiG-23 and on the Mirage III i have gotten permission from Falklands mod to use Mind if I suggest that the Hawk would be the next one when you're done? No pressure, it's just a suggestion, after all it is your mod, but I'd love to see it in your camo, and it would be realistic as a trainer.

    Nogovan army?

Apollo: I was working on the assumption that it has no oil wells or similarily important resources. If it does, it changes that and it could conceivably have F-16s, but that sort of relatively advanced aircraft seems a bit out of place to me. I think less modern stuff, like Hawks and Mig-23s is more the way to go. That's ore for the aircraft thread though. Imshi: Think that was me asking about logistics. Thanks for clearing that one up, makes a lot of sense now. I suppose in the case of an invasion, all the clerks would probably go shoot someone! The army you posted back in the beginning is 2,000 men and about 4,000 reserve, making around 6,000. So what kind of population are you thinking of? ozanzac: You need to have a fair idea of the GDP and population to work out what sort of military it can have. If it's got a tiny population, then they can't have a ten division army! Yes, you can ignore the size of the island and how rich it is, but we are trying to get something with a bit of realism in it. Admittedly, it is getting a bit out of hand though... Sorry! On the subject of equipment, yes, I agree with ozanzac. Equipment should be late sevnties, early eighties Soviet Bloc stuff. But if you're aiming for a post-Resistance thing, then I'll pass on something someone else said on the Air Force thread. The Nogovan army would be starting to replace their old, and hard-to-service (because I doubt the Soviets will gve them parts) armour with NATO equipment that has been donated. I also think that there should be some sort of SAM system for the island. I think someone released an SA-6 (or similar) pack a while back, so put it on a couple of ground launchers, a few radar buldings, and voila. It doesn't even need to be operational, it could be just for looks, although DKM have released a pack that could allow you to have separate radars and launchers.

    Nogovan army?

TopCover: I think maybe that's a bit big (see below for why). Maybe more like a couple of coast patrol boats (like lifeboats) and patrol topedo boats, and a corvette. I think a frigate would be a bit big. Oh, and there'd be no point in having a company just for landings, because it'd never be used. Have some landing craft sitting at a dock somewhere, make BTR-60's and PT-76's the armour, and voila! Light army, that can also do short distance opposed landings (i.e the short distance from Nogova to Everon\Malden\Kolgujev). Whatcha think? I think everyone seems to be thinking of a Nogova with a population that could afford to buy F-16's and the like. But it probably isn't. Nogova has an area of approximately 100 sq km. Most European countries have a population density of anything up to 400 per sq km. I know this isn't exactly the best way to use figures like this, but I like it, because it provides a compromise between what the island could support in RL and what we need to support this. So that's 40,000, maybe 50,000. The whole island chain (Nogova, Everon, Malden, Kolgujev), I'd say 100,000, tops. Which flatly contradicts my earlier 20,000. So something of the size of Imshi-Yallah's actually would be quite feasible, possibly even bigger if it involves conscription\time of war. Personally I'd rather see it Soviet-equipped, because Nogova feels Soviet to me (just look at the tower blocks, and that name!) but that's just me.

    Nogovan army?

Personally, I think Hellfish has got about the right size for the army. Imshi's is nice, well-organized and all, but still a bit big. Only gripe is that there's probably not enough "tail" (i.e support troops). In the modern US army in Iraq, they have 1 combat troop to to every four support, if i remember correctly. This army has combat troops(not including reserves) outnumbering service somewhere between two and three to one. Now, I'd say in a much smaller army, there'd be much less administration, but not that much less. I think it's especially short on maintenance. After all, there are thirty or forty vehicles, and only 92 men to support. So maye double the size of the 2nd Service Battalion, and all should be well with the world. Just my €0.02.

    Nogovan Armed Forces Project

I like the sound of Imshi-Yallah's, but i think it's too big. I doubt that the whole island of Nogova could support more than ten thousand people as it is in-game, and that's pushing it (from what I remember). So the biggest an active-duty army could sensibly be is about a thousand, and that's probably only in times of emergency. And most of that would have to go on the army. If we're talking island chain, with Everon Malden and Kolgujev, maybe we could up the population to thirty thousand, so three to four thousand soldiers. Which makes Imshi's still a bit big, but not too much. It's possible to have an airforce that big, but how is Nogova gonna pay for it? I'd say they're only gonna have maybe four Hawks or similar for fighting, a maritime patrol aircraft, a few light aircraft like Cessnas for liaision and a helicopter or two for SAR. So cut one of the fighter wings, the government jet (they can use the maritime patrol thing) and one of the helicoopter squadrons is my idea. It still leaves you with a very air force oriented military though. I'm not sure, you might need to cut it down a lot more.

    The first wave

WHAT!!!! One million aircraft? Or even more, seeing as that's serviceable. I'd be surprised if there are that many aircraft in the modern world. You'd need an air force of twenty or thirty million people to support that many planes, at least (I haven't much idea what sort of logistical support WWII air forces needed, but that seems like a good guess to me. Modern would probably need more). That's crazy! And when you say 4.8 million troops, do you mean actual guys with guns in their hands, because that's also crazy. You need about four support guys for each combat troop (modern US army in Iraq, AFAIK, but I've heard estimates from three to eight support personnel per combat troop). Making your army also twenty to thirty million in size. The Americas have a population of less than a billion people. So the SAC needs at least 50 million men under arms, and the US must be close enough. So the US has to have two in every five men fighting (women not being in the army) and in the Americas, about 10% of the population must be fighting. Already unfeasible, but now take into account the fact that these are the most productive segments of the poplation, who make up the workforce, and suddenly it becomes even more fantastic. Plus you need more troops to replace those who die, and other things like that. Oh, and what's the point of all these men? The OFP engine won't let you use more than 3024 men (4 sides x 63 groups x 12 men per group) and even if it did, how do you propose our computers deal with million men battles? Should we all upgrade to Crays or quantum computers? So, it's an intriguing idea, but unless you make it sensible, just forget it EDIT: some of my post disappeared in a weird way

    Mig-21

That cockpit... phwoar. Beautifuller than a beautiful thing at the Miss Beautiful competition in Prettyville, Beauty State, Niceland. That looks like something from a dedicated flight sim. Yay! Oh, and the rest of the plane is nice too...

    About chopper/plane

A longer view distance for the hairyplanes would be nice too, and some more realistic radar. And let us have multiple airstrips, so we can have planes providing CAS for both sides. And some CSAR abilities too. I'd love to fly CSAR in OFP if I could do it properlyy (i.e without having to land)
  14. supersheep

Which theatre are you most looking forward to?

Tell that to all the addon makers slaving away in the expectation that OFP2 will be a revamped engine and not totally new. Â They are trying to keep their mod and fan base. Â I doubt Invasion'44 would like to completely restart their mod to make it compatible with the sequel. Â My view is that the engine of OFP had heaps of potential but was very rough cut and raw. Â It needed some more development but I get the impression time and money ran out and it was released "as is". Â Resistance polished the engine up dramatically but OFP2 will introduce new elements of engine capability. Aye, but it is a two year old graphics engine. Admittedly I've never experienced what OFP can look like, seeing as its running on a PII 350 with a Voodoo3 PCI 16MB and 128MB RAM. But the graphics are a bit... dull. When you look at all the new-fangled games with their sparkly bits and bobs, the game seems old and worn. You make a good point about the addons, though. I suppose I'd rather BAS & DKM & Kegetys & Footmunch & all our other venerated addon makers to be making us new addons a month after release instead of a year. I'd prefer that, even if it meant the graphics weren't up to modern standards. But back on topic. The Parallel History Project is something that might whet your appetite for a seventies Central European conflict. It gives an idea of what the conflict between NATO and WarPac would have been like.
  15. supersheep

Which theatre are you most looking forward to?

'twould be nice indeed to see a 1970's big WarPac-NATO campaign, with the Fulda Gap and all the other stuff, but at any point that would almost definitely have involved nukes, which wouldnt make for a fun game (you're walking down a street, no enemies anywhere, then BANG! you're a cloud of floating atoms). I'm interested to see what the Yugoslavian campaign is gonna be. I would have thought the the 1968 Czech Revolution would have made for a more... likely subject, because it actually happened. There were no wars in Yugoslavia during that decade, at least to my knowledge (feel free to correct me). Africa will be a most interesting area, there were so many different conflicts. Imagine playing... I think it was either the Congo or Zaire, 1966, and coming across some of the famous characters like Che Guevara or that dude who went on to be a dictator somewhere nearby. I know that isn't very helpful, but I'll change that soon when I get to the reference material. Vietnam. The most controversial of the settings, it seems. A lot of games have done this recently, but they seemed to just stick to the Platoon\Apocalypse Now\everyone's idea of what Vietnam was like. But if it gave you the chance to "do" the whole Vietnam thing, like someone said before (urban battles round Hue, humping the boonies, flying Spads, the Brown Water Navy in the Mekong Delta and so on...) it'd be able to bring something to it no other game has. BIS made the greatest first-person WAR game, not a first-person shooter like the others were, why can't they do it again? I must admit, I do't like the whole "revamped" graphics engine thing, rather than a new one. I think it'll need more than just a touch-up when it comes to be time to release. Just my two cents (or euros worth by the time I'm finished writing )
