[WIP] The Commando - American APC

Recommended Posts

Greetings

A while ago I released a model of the M1117 ASV. Having some 'bits left over'

I decided to try the APC variant known as the 'Commando'.

This vehicle has a longer wheelbase and higher roof line than the M1117 and can hold two crew and eight passengers.

I think it would fit some of the smaller factions either as a lease/lend vehicle from Uncle Sam

or as a captured 'trophy' for the independents.

State of play at the moment:

Opening doors

Basic interior

Commander FFV

Five Res Lods

It drives, It shoots and it transports your boots

If any community Devs think it would 'fit their faction' I'll release the source files

and they can modify it as they see fit.

looks very nice, did you animate the doors and the ramp on the back? I think a lot of people will like this less known apc and use it well.

Nice looking vehicle cleggy. Is there any way that you could update your Ridgeback? I know it's off topic but it would be nice to use it. As of right now the M2 doesn't fire and I get shot through the glass with small arms fire.

Thanks for the replies

Yes, the doors are animated. Not automatically when you get in but by user action. The ramp as you call it is actually a split door.

My problem with that door is that once opened I'm not sure what you should be doing. :P  Ideally accessing the inventory I imagine

but you have to get in to do that.

I had a toy m1117 as a kid and didn't know it was a real thing till now. Can't wait to play with it again  :)

Thanks but the M1117 is actually the model I've already released. ;)

Sorry to hear you're having problems with the 'Old Girl' - it works fine at my end so I had no idea you (and probably others)

have issues. If you don't tell me I won't know!

I've an idea what the problem might be (shoddy work on my part). I'll see what I can do. You can't upset a willing user! :) !

You are the man cleggy. Thanks for taking a look at it. It fits perfectly with the 3CB mods so it'd be awesome to use them together. As of right now the Ridgeback is basically a thin skinned heavy truck. I posted about the problems I had with it in its own thread a bit ago but no one responded. Again, so stoked you're going to look at these issues. Maybe it's just a mod conflict on my end but I doubt it.

And good luck on finishing the Commando as well. Looks great so far.

I think I might have had the same toy!

Looks great Cleggy. Very nice texturing. I would certainly make a lot of use of an APC version. I already like using the M1117 as a scout vehicle for guerilla type forces.

Thanks for the replies.

With a few notable exceptions we're all still 'boys with their toys' :P

Although texturing is my least favourite part of the whole process, I've been faffing around with some texture variants

via the new fangled Eden attributes thingy.

My aim is to keep just one model that can be re-textured in desert and woodland without the

proxies looking out of place when you switch. So some careful colouring of said proxies is the plan.

I know proxies can be re-textured but BI doesn't recommend it, so they've scared me off attempting that ... for now. :D

Looks great, Cleggy. We'll have to have a chat sometime. This, and the M117, would go great with the Blufor version of the Takistan / Afghan Army we'll be looking to include in our 3CB Faction pack. The Afghan army uses the M117 alongside their Humvees and M113's.

I would also much appreciate it if i could use it in my Mod, of course with full credits to you.

It really looks like a great Vehicle, and it could be a great Vehicle especially for motorized Units.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm glad that it will find a home somewhere.

Here's a WIP of the interior. I did say it was 'basic'. :)

Basic but looks good to me.

Oh and I hate to be a pain in the rear but did you have a chance to look at the Ridgback cleggy?

Yes! ..... and No.

In my 'wisdom' I thought I'd try and impove the FFV gunner position with one of those

fancy turn out animations.

Problem is I can't get it to work properly .... so I've stalled.

Because so few people are having trouble with the M2 I have to say it looks like a mod conflict

-the paper thin windows however is a different matter - still thinking about that.

Could you PM me a list of the mods you are running - might give me a clue.
