Wow...that can fly? Amazing. It does look like it came straight out of Star Trek smile.gif

Yeah,saw it too.Very droolable plane smile.gif

It even really does look like a 'real' bird of prey (the klingon starship from star trek that is)

Skunk/Phantom/any black works produce some mighty fine planes :-p

It's strange that it's manual controlled,so no FBW either?

It says the plane uses luminous panels for eliminating shadows. Looks like they are trying to develop optical cammo for vehicles!

I really think they should introduce mandatory drug tests for aircraft designers wink.gif

On Topic:

Wow, I'd hate to be in that beast if the onboard computer failed. I bet it flies like a rock without the FBW stuff. But yes, it looks VERY cool.

If I was the pilot I would be assured a bit more if it had a bit bigger wings, but I suppose that is deprementrial to the stealth abilities.

There are NO onboard computers to fail, flight control is entirely manual -- no hydraulics or electrical systems involved either, just good old manual actuators.

Remember, it was only a small prototype / proof-of-concept.

I bet that thing handles just as well as the planes in ofp does!

No worries! smile.gif

I guess it would have a rather intimidating effect on a potential foe though. Anyone crazy enought to get in the cockpit of that contraption would have to be a hell of a pilot.

I am rather sceptical of that claim.

Without an empennage, and with the odd configuration of the wings, I cant see how it was possible to do manual control mixing to make the thing flyable. But then since I am not an aeronautical engineer, my opinions are less than credible biggrin.gif

The part I found the most interesting was:

Quick and cheap are two words rarely seen in a comment from a military contractor biggrin.gif

that's what test pilots like Chuck Yeager is for. wink.gif those men have guts to test new stuff.

Well if I could get a chance to fly new stuff I wouldn't hesitate to do it. And I don't think I'm nuts. confused.gif

There was a  program  on t he  other  night and a few previously about the who was going to get the contract for  new JSF fighter, which has VTOL too.I wouldn`t mind  gegtting my hands on some of their simulators or 3d development  gear  biggrin.gif

It was between boeing and lockheed.

To me, when I look at the X-32 (Boeings aircraft), I can't help but thinking of a big fat seagull, it's ugly as sin (no offense to seagulls intended tounge.gif). I never liked it. Thank goodness the F-35 won the JSF contest. now thats an aircraft you can be proud of.

How'd this topic get raised from the dead anyway?
