As you might have noticed I have been away from the forums for over a week. Let me first start by saying that you can stop celbrating, the rumors of my assassination were greatly exaggerated wink.gif

I was in Croatia for 10 days for a NATO summit in Zagreb where my team from in Kosovo 2001 presented our report again. Well, my part actually lasted a whole of 15 minutes with my grand part was to nod a couple of times in agreement to what my former CO said wink.gif On the other hand I got a very nicely paid ten day vacation because of those 15 minutes. At the end of the summit i got a nice plaque:

(note: I have never worked for the UN, I was never in Bosnia and I certainly wasn't there in 94-95)... Morons wink.gif

Anyway, before getting into politics, here are some pictures that I took. They are in no particular order:

My car, provided by SFOR broke down the second day:

One of the many parks in Zagreb:

The cathedral in Zagreb. It is under permanent repairs since it was built out of crappy material 400 years ago and it derteriorates faster then they can repair it:

Main square:

St. Mark's church in the old town is famous for its roof:

Old town street:

Typical street in Zagreb. The town looks a lot like Vienna

Central train station:

City tram:

The national theatre:

When I left today, I saw a Mig 21 taking off:

Ok, now for the politics part. As an interesting sideffect of the US refusal to joint the ICC Croatia has now seen it fit to follow the US example. Right now they are refusing to extradite a general that is suspected for war crimes by saying it is unconstitutional and pointing to the US decision as a reference. Now this was actually a political move to silence the political right wing in the country, so they will eventually send the general to the Hague, but it is still a prime example of the ripple effect that US foreigin policy has.

Hey, that's a beautiful city! I would like to go there someday...

The U.S. decision about the ICC is shameful. If U.S. citizens/soldiers commit war crimes they should be judged, as you would judge anyone else.

I wonder how soon another moderator will come along and edit denoir's post so that the embedded pictures become links? You know, to keep the post below 100KB... wink.gif

Countries should judge their own citzens, except in some special cases like Hitler and others like him. I do no want to start a debate though.......

If you go to another country and commit a crime there, you should be judged there, and if your crime is a violation of human rights, they have even more right to judge you. I'm pretty sure if i went to the US and killed someone i would be judged in the US, not in Spain.

You are wrong there smile.gif

1) My thread had military connections (NATO summit)

2) I included some politics.

OK, so next time I'll tag on a paragraph about politics at the end of my post and everything will be legit.

Oh, since I'm in the military and any lengthy trip I take is with the military it must be OK, but someone who took a normal vacation that had nothing to do with the military isn't OK.

That makes no sense.

Exactly. It makes perfect sense too http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=20607.

But even with that the type of threads that we do close are the ones just saying "Hi, I'm back. What's been happening here lately?". If you have something to contribute (like pictures from your vacation or a nice story) nobody will hold it against you and it isn't very probable that the thread will be closed smile.gif

What's this? Swedes and Canadians fighting? biggrin.gif

Come on... give it a rest. Anyway, I personally see nothing wrong with this post as Denoirs' reason for going there was because of the military and surrounding politics, I didn't see your thread Tyler.
