dezkit 28 Posted May 6, 2015 Can't wait. I saw the car list and was disappointed though. Used to having a ton of cars to play around with, as I grew up with Forza and Gran Turismo. However, it will be awesome to see what modders will come out with, and playing maxed out on my gtx 980.
chrisb 196 Posted May 7, 2015 I can remember back in 97/98 when Gran Turismo (1) came out. One of my sons friends couldn't believe that one of the cars on our driveway was in the game at the time. They're ten a penny now, but at the time it was only used (14mths old ours was) low mileage imports from Japan that were making there way over here to the UK. It was the Mitsubishi FTO-GPX. The music system in the one we had, would be considered futuristic even now, amazing setup. It had the Tiptronic gearbox, really easy to drive and was a fairly fast little car. I bought it for the wife for Christmas, she loved it. Time flies. :(
x3kj 1247 Posted May 7, 2015 Why can nobody make a proper rally sim? No, it must always be the same old boring asphalt racing... bleh
Janez 536 Posted May 7, 2015 OK... not for you then. I for one love asphalt racing and dislike either watching or playing anything rally but have nothing against rally games or rally in general. If someone makes Richard Burns caliber game, then great.

I guess with rally you didn't mean just rally but other types of surfaces and styles. Both are just only pretty early versions so you need to wait.
Janez 536 Posted May 7, 2015 (edited) So, first impressions. As far as options go, you can tweak pretty much anything you want. In-depth graphics, visual and decent audio options, force feedback and calibration settings, seat position, individual FoV settings for each camera position as well as sense of speed (it's optional and set to off by default) effect FoV, ability to disable cockpit wheel and hands, etc. Already, when you enter main menu, you can see this is well thought out and polished game. Detailed yet user friendly. If browsing trough menus using either mouse, keyboard or wheel/gamepad. Unfortunately I can't comment much in regard to driving model or force feedback since my MOMO Racing wheel is very old now and does not perform optimally any more. While it is fully supported, even if it was new it is just subpar to this driving model and FF. Driving slower cars like BMW 1 M Coupe is manageable and quite fun to drive - very tail happy little thing :), however something like Audi R8 or anything above 350HP is too much. The wheel is just too inaccurate to give any decent assessment. I really need to upgrade and get myself a rig. Graphics are obviously beautiful and sounds are excellent. AI seems quite good, you can scale them from beginner to ace (0-100) and it makes a huge difference in lap times, they also make less mistakes and are more aggressive when overtaking or defending as you bump up the difficulty. They do try their best to avoid collisions most of the time though. Bumping between cars is very well done, there is no "vacuum" when two cars are touching side by side or anything like that. At least in SP. I did not try MP since there is no point with my current setup. Quick update. I tweaked FF and sensitivity settings and got a passable solution. There was an event in "zero to hero" career mode. Pagani Huayra or Zonda Cinque Roadster at Monza GP. I took Huayra and let me tell you, it is a BEAST, over 700HP but surprisingly calm, very easy to control. Up-Shift mid show corner at 3/4 throttle? No problem. That is where it's at for me now. vran. 13 Posted May 8, 2015 Looks nice and seems to have lots of content. But I think it won't be aimed at the enthusiast sim niche but more in-line with the likes of console racers like Forza, GT, etc. As it stands, the benchmark for serious sim racers is Assetto Corsa. We will see if this will change but I'm skeptical about it.
Janez 536 Posted May 8, 2015 I wouldn't say Assetto Corsa is a benchmark. Each sim has it's own thing going on. iRacing has the best MP, rFactor 2 has the best dynamic surface, etc. Assetto Corsa is promising but despite being officially released seems like beta. They are talking about implementing this and that and they probably will but until then, I'm not buying into it.
vran. 13 Posted May 9, 2015 Well iRacing has a payable subscription and rFactor 2 is more modding focused. I'm sure the iRacing community is mature and competitive but the subscription thing is a turn off for me and rFactor really needs tons of community made content to feel any good. 'Out of the box' AC is the best sim racing experience out now even if it's lacking in some departments (for example no dynamic weather, no night racing, poor damage modeling, etc.) because of a decent selection of content and authentic driving model. p.s.: this comming from someone who considers GP Legends, GTR 2 and Live For Speed tops of the genre due to nailed driving feel. :p

I feel the same way. This also means I haven't played a decent racing sim in what, a decade? So, this game really is a breath of fresh air for me. As I mentioned before my setup isn't that great, it's pretty low compared to semi-pro rigs guys like Empty Box use to be frank but even so, cars feel amazing in a slide which is one of the most important elements of driving model for me and probably many others. doveman 7 Posted May 14, 2015 The car interiors seem rather unimpressive but maybe this is considered unimportant in racing games. I suck at them so rarely play them!
tpw 2315 Posted May 20, 2015 (edited) I bought pCARS on a whim from steam, having not not played a race sim since Geoff Crammond's F1 on the Amiga last millennium. Personally, pCARS is so engrossing that I'm currently taking a sabbatical from Arma3 to play it. The game looks, sounds, feels (literally with force feedback) and plays fantastically. I've never experienced the same degree of immersion and exhilaration in 30 years of gaming. I mean literally finishing a session with aching arms, sweating and racing heartbeat. Having to catch myself from swearing with excitement/disappointment when the kids are around! I play with a modest PC (i5 / GTX660) and a modest force feedback wheel/pedal setup (Logitech Driving Force GT) and it performs really well. I can only imagine what it must be like on a high end rig. I don't think the game is perfect by any means, but sims of all flavours always have bugs and areas of personal irritation. I'd like to think SMS and the WMD community will only continue to patch and improve pCARS over the coming months. The only problem with pCARS is that whilst looking for setup help and hints, I've had to brave various forums filled with nitpicking sim vs game Anoraks, rabid detractors/fanboys, hardware elitists, and general wankers. On the other hand it's really made me appreciate the general civility and helpfulness of the BI forum :) Edited May 20, 2015 by tpw

Janez 536 Posted June 28, 2015 So with the state the game is in, they announced a second iteration. Project CARS 2. Take a look at the packages you can invest in. Keep in mind game sold over million copies since May 6th. From a perspective of what exactly pCARS (1 now apparently) offers one can be satisfied with a purchase but with all this I honestly feel ashamed I bought it. You might want to give this a wide berth. Just a heads up.

Janez 536 Posted June 28, 2015 Nothing game breaking, that has to be made clear. There is quite a hefty list of minor bugs and glitches though that take away from immersion or ruin certain events in career mode. I'm not going into details here but stuff like UI settings or starting tire setups not saving or certain object lacking collision on track. You get the idea. Bugs are known, been reported and are not fixed in these two months. They did some patches, although not patching much, they are making a big patch in near future so it's not like they abandoned it just yet. No doubt they will stuff some five random cars DLC packs down our throats. I mean, what is this? This is not how you release DLC for racing games. I would understand maybe two LMP1, two LMP2 and one LMP3 cars. Something like that if not one class DLC but not "Expand your Prototype and GT rosters". Clearly set up for you to buy all DLC in a bad way. You end up paying double you payed for the base game and actually using 1/5 of the content.
