Modified config

I've seen this more and more often during the last few weeks - and I was wondering what caused this message.

What does that message mean? That's probably not a sound mod - are those the cheaters with the cleaned islands? What causes this message?

It is very unlikely message "Cfg/cfgworlds/defaultworld/subdivision" has any relation to Sound mod. I think it can easily be some kind of terrain cheat.

Sounds like the soundmod has a different setting in the Cfg/cfgworlds/defaultworld/subdivision than what the original config had... I guess things like that could lead into problems (Like with some old version of satchels soundmod caused server and client crashes when some players used the mod and some didnt, as it changed the BMP weaponload.)

Well, I tried it. It is satchels soundmod - i tried it on a clean install, and it showed the message. WTF is that mod f... up with the game? At least people should start the game without the mod if they go online. How should these people be distinguished from someone cheating??? That's really annoying!

many ppl first impression is, you are a cheater (even Suma).

in fact

you are just someone that just trying to get a little extra fun out of this game

i had this problem running in EFL forum before Joltan started this one here. my sollution there is put original config.bin back before every clanwar & put the edited back after every war

that is the only smart thing to do i guess

I think people using the sound mod should deactivate it before joining a mp game - there is no way of distinguishing you from a possible cheater (who will of course say that he's just using a sound mod). With Satchels Sound Mod it is easy to do so if it is installed correctly. They only need to restart OFP without the "-mod" parameter.

I think as admin I will ask players connecting with this message to reconnect with the deactivated mod or kick them, if they refuse. If they can't install the mod correctly and overwrite the original config they should start thinking about reading the readme. Being kicked they have the time to do so.

Thats fair enough, Gameplanet has had maybe... 2 guys trying to cheat in the entire time its been online.. well over a year. So not really a big problem. But if the players complain about a certain person not dying or they notice very bad behaviour I will kick and possibly ban. But the subdivision message is related to sound, everyone who has that message has satchells sound pack. So I give them the benefit of the doubt, like any OFP player, until I see / hear otherwise.

If it really is, I think you should ask the creator of the soundmod to fix it so that it does not play with the entry "Cfg/cfgworlds/defaultworld/subdivision". This entry has no effect on any sounds (it affects terrain rendering) and could be used to cheat.

Would it be possible for a new patch to automatically kick players using custom configs and/or using multiple CD-keys on a server. Would be great? (or atleast a server variable).

Will this display the same error message, or will it cause another one (if any at all)?

BTW: how about someone using several config mods - will the server announce all of them, or just the first it encounters? It would be very easy for a cheater to introduce another - less obvious - change, that he could easily blame on something completely unrelated to cheats.

I contacted the guy that maintains Satchels sound mod by mail, and I hope he can fix this, but the problem remains. What I'd really like to see would be the possibility to block out people that have certain parts of their configs (like anything related to the terrain or other things that can be tweaked to cheat).

I will look into the defaultworld\subdivision change. I will possibly release a newer version of satchel's soundpack.

I just checked and there is nothing changed under the defaultworld class. However, under the eden and abel subclasses, I have changed the rain environmental sound class. would that cause that error? I'm a bit confused.

Why not use 1 of the sound mods out there that are just reworked sound.pbo's ? They work great,dont display any modified anything messages and some are very good and have been out for a long time. I have been using 1 that was released in like Jan or Feb of this year and have never had any complaints.

You're right, but some sounds can't be changed in sound.pbo - also Satchel's soundmod does add some extra sounds, and thus has to modify the config. Still I really think people should just refrain from using it in mp, and use another sound mod (one of those using just a modified sound.pbo) for playing online.

I use the Battlefield 1.1 sounds and they are good enough for me to really enjoy blasting away in mp.

and more good news 1.85 patch is comming

I just tried Satchel's recent sound mod and MP on Everon and got that subdivision message.

so i'm strongly suspecting that sound mod has something to do with the error message.

BattleSounds v1.1 uses some elements of Satchells original sound mod and it doesnt give the error message in multiplay...give it a try...its available at (lower right corner of page red tag) it sounds great and works well!
