MiauX 10 Posted January 21, 2015 In your first map you ussualy need weeks just to setup the editing environment properly and then, starting to work with Buldozer. And yes, you need to read a lot of guides to do so. Some Youtube tutorials will come in handy too
audiocustoms 375 Posted January 21, 2015 I had plenty of help, read hundreds of posts and tutorials and it took me almost 3 weeks until i had the first (bad) map impoted to arma 3 editor... You need to run into walls/problems and find solutions, otherwise you will not learn how to do it.

audiocustoms 375 Posted January 22, 2015 @MiauX Hehe, nice one :D This was my first (bad) map. I had do abandon it due lack of time and patience. http://abload.de/img/iwogerif.jpg (206 kB) But to those wo really want to do such stuff, there is a plenty of good and well described work out there in form of video and text tutorials. Like this. https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Mondkalb's_Terrain_Tutorial http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?94222-Resourcelink-collection-How-to-make-a-map-beginning-from-the-idea-in-your-head http://tactical.nekromantix.com/wiki/doku.php?id=arma:terrain https://sites.google.com/site/bushlurker/Resources Just to name a few resources. kerkkoh 35 Posted January 22, 2015 Hey, I am a new one here, but what I used to get my first map in was this http://youtu.be/syuAwOCXsi0?list=PLlfml-CDZ5d6-lC1QkJhG8-UM_NoGR8wO tutorial series (also explains how to setup P:\ drive correctly). That tutorial needs some fixes and isn't perfect, but it is good for someone who is starting with a map.
lappihuan 178 Posted January 22, 2015 I used this youtube tutorial the last few days. He is a beginner himself but you will definitly get your terrain to work ingame with it.

ironmentalist 10 Posted January 22, 2015 thanks to both zukov and lappihuan i think you both linked the same but i misunderstood before XD ok now following tutorial i get some stuff working differently...in particular when i open arma 3 tools and click in addon builder i don't get an addon source directory and neither a destination one... i ignored this (noob) and went ahead...i went to bi tools a3 directory and i run the devP.bat but the white screen isnt readable because it stays only like 0.000001 seconds faster then light dont allowing me to do anything...obviusly i ignored that too...finally i go to p drive and i just see some folder but like 10-15 folders but in the video they are a lot...last thing...i get in some document (like bulldozer icon) the arma 2 oa icon because ive it installed on my pc...have i to delete it or i can use bulldozer normally? thanks
giallustio 770 Posted January 22, 2015 Ignore things is not a good idea with Arma. You should post a screen of your P folder. You should use mikero's tools, they help a lot
badluckburt 78 Posted January 22, 2015 UNFORTUNATELY THEY ARE IN DUTCH :< What's wrong with Dutch :P If the videos aren't too long, I'm willing to write up an explanation for you if you think it'll help. Or you could just tell us where you get stuck :) And like Giallustio says, Mikero's Tools http://dev.withsix.com/projects/mikero-pbodll/files As a map maker, never leave home without them :D If you want to make things easy on yourself, grab Mikero Update and use that to install the rest. Going on the info in your post, I don't think you have a proper P:-drive yet but when you post the screenshot, we'll know :)
ironmentalist 10 Posted January 22, 2015 oooh Giallustio in my thread<3 *admiration** can someone explane me how can i post here a pic? and misterbadluck thanks you a lot;) i actually have already downloaded all mikeros tools because a very gentle map maker that sometimes helps me told me how to do the first steps. Lol i think that ahah when there is wrote "P" in the "computer" partition u have it ahah but i think (obviously) that you arr right bro;) ---------- Post added at 22:06 ---------- Previous post was at 22:05 ---------- ill try to post a pic tomorrow;D
StrangerADanger 10 Posted January 22, 2015 I still, even watching these videos. I am still lost. Im not used the terrain creation in A3. If some one could just give a quick jist of what to do with L3DT and DEM data that would be great.
giallustio 770 Posted January 22, 2015 L3dt: - create an heightfield map and export it as ASC or XYZ. - create a texture map and export it. TB: - just drag those file in the TB window. Follow the tutorial linked, it's really easy: http://tactical.nekromantix.com/wiki/doku.php?id=arma3:terrain:jakerod-quick-terrain-builder-tutorial
StrangerADanger 10 Posted January 22, 2015 Thank you, Also. Do you know the best free website to grab DEM's?
bushlurker 46 Posted January 22, 2015 Thank you, Also. Do you know the best free website to grab DEM's? HERE's some readymade 5x5km ones - ideal for messing around with in L3DT. P.S. - Since these are 16bit greyscale .png heightmaps, there's no "inbuilt maximum and minimum height values". So open the accompanying .pbl file in notepad and you'll see the two values you need. When you import it into L3DT, just use those Max & Min height values in the "Max & Min" slots provided, and they should all import in proper proportions... Have fun B
