Yurtex 1 Posted April 6, 2014 (edited) Hi there, I decided I'd make a thread about my second (technically) addon project for Arma 3. I've been working on and off for the past year on my Challenger 2 addon, though most of the progress was done over the course of the last three months. The model itself seems to be coming along rather well, but I'm having trouble with scripting and writing configs for addons in ArmA. The test vehicle I made wouldn't move. If someone could help me out with that, I'd be much obliged. Here's what the model looks like right now: What do you think so far? I'm in need of information about different models of Challenger 2, as I've been basing my model around the various photos I found of it. Damian90 697 Posted April 6, 2014 Overall model looks good.
skelig 27 Posted April 6, 2014 Did you UVW unwrap the model? you will have to UVW unwrap the model and then you can do textures :)
Nuttex 10 Posted April 6, 2014 Did you UVW unwrap the model? you will have to UVW unwrap the model and then you can do textures :) Pretty sure he just slapped some random texture to showcase the tank in-game.
pitbull 11 Posted April 7, 2014 Looking good. Will be good to have current armor in game
serjames 357 Posted April 7, 2014 Very excited to see any British Armour in the game... Scale looks a little Small possibly ? I have some good photos of these from a couple of years ago with people crawling over them for scale if they'd be helpful ? PM if you want them SJ
Tavish 41 Posted April 9, 2014 Sharp looking model! Grand work. I was also wondering about the scale... but maybe with textures (and possibly extra armour?) it'll look normal. However, I may be wrong and need glasses. ;)
yevgeni89 163 Posted April 9, 2014 If your interested I can give you a nice berlin brigade urban armor texture
pulstar 55 Posted April 9, 2014 I hope the cannon is animated! ;) If there's something Arma's MBT's lack it's the kickback of firing their main cannons.
Damian90 697 Posted April 9, 2014 There are main gun recoil animations... even ArmA2 have these. :j:
pulstar 55 Posted April 9, 2014 There are main gun recoil animations... even ArmA2 have these. :j: Yea, but they're not as powerful as their real life counterparts :P I did have a good experience with addons in A2 however.. If you stand close to a firing cannon the blowback could literally knock you back lol
Damian90 697 Posted April 9, 2014 There are limitations for software. You are making mistaking expecting that every addonmaker will try to simulate real world in 100%. Besides this you had in ArmA2 ACE2 mod where standing close to firing gun was dangerous. I suppose same will be in ACE3 for ArmA3.
gurdy 479 Posted April 9, 2014 While I can't speak for the accuracy, the model sure looks nice! :)
Yurtex 1 Posted June 6, 2014 A little update on a current state of the addon. Here's what a regular Chally 2 looks right now: And an up-armoured version: I've done quite a lot of work, but it's a little bit tricky to show. Tierney and Nuttex have joined the team as well. Ask them anything. Stay Tuned.
slatts 1978 Posted June 6, 2014 Excellent work :) Looking good
miketim 20 Posted June 6, 2014 Looking nice bro :) Keep at it! I understand that texturing it is going to be very difficult, once you get the main textures (default ones you want to use) you should see if you can make some other ones or try making some type of template, it would probably be really complex though just looking at the model  Nice one, I hope this addon ends up with a release, it sure looks like it will. Nuttex 10 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) So far, we've experienced a lot of problems with making the addon work in game. If someone could us out with setting the tank up in game, that'd be much obliged. We require help with: - Scripting - Sounds - Information about the interrior Planned features: - 3D interior - Various versions of the tank such as regular and up-armoured (CLIP) Challies, CRARRV and Trojan AVRE. - Custom ammo shells (if possible) - Various camo colour schemes (woodland, desert, Altis-custom, etc) Here's a couple more screenshots showing off the rear: Edited June 6, 2014 by nuttex
miketim 20 Posted June 6, 2014 If you do a 3d interior, Idk how you plan on doing it but I would recommend not using PIP for the window slots or whatever, maybe you need to but personally for me PIP totally dips fps by like -10 whenever used so I dont even use it, but I would love to enjoy these interiors. Maybe if you did use PIP you could try a optional non pip pbo or something, also if you cant do a 3d interior, do what BWmod did they made a great looking GUI thing that is almost as nice looking as a 3d one. Nice work keep it up

Not sure if we'd be able to do that ArmA 3, but we shall see. As for PIP, ideally we wanted to have stuff like commander's monitor.
papanowel 120 Posted June 6, 2014 That's great, 3d interior is very good especially when you have to spend a few hour inside. Good luck with this project.
flippy_rage 23 Posted June 6, 2014 Great job :D What if some Devs\ Groups of devs would merge their projects to make full British Forces Addon? We 've got L85 addon, we havee Jackal and land rover addon... Together You, Devs are able to make it big.
cleggy 297 Posted June 6, 2014 Dat is some funky sh*t! Or to put it another way - best of luck. Nice work! Hopefully Friznit will see this and chime in. Iirc he's the man aka the chally. (Just don't fob him off like that other guy attempting this monster.)
Nuttex 10 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) (Just don't fob him off like that other guy attempting this monster.) Seen that. We really want to make it as realistic as possible (although there will an attempt at creating a custom Altis camo scheme for, say, AAF), so his tips would be perfect here. Would it be appropriate to create a thread about that on RKSL forums? Edited June 7, 2014 by nuttex
