Accidental deaths as part of a war have nothing to do with the justness of the war.<span id='postcolor'> What are accidental deaths? If you carpet bomb a city, are the civilians killed there 'accidental' deaths? In Ex-Yugoslavia it was made very clear what you could be prosecuted for. According to the Hague, if you know that there is a high possibility of civilian deaths and still proceed then they can charge you. Case example: Knin in Croatia. It was the centre of the "Croatian Serb Republic" between 91-95 - both military and political. During "Operation Strom" in 95 when the Croatian military took back the territory, Knin was attacked with artillery and from the air. It resulted in between 20-50 civilian casulties (depending on the source). Now the facts are: 1) Knin was a military center 2) Knin was a civillian center The Hague decided that it was some form of a war crime (don't remember which) and now a couple of Croatian generals are locked up awaiting trial. (I personally consider this to be very absurd, especially when you consider the mess that NATO did in Kosovo - and nobody was tried for that)

I get your point though. What do I call an accidental death? I call it that when a precision guided bomb malfunctions and hits a red cross centre, from the talk of some people, they seemed to think that the yanks bombed it intentionally. Tex -USMC- 0 Posted September 12, 2002 I think they need to work on that JDAM technology a bit more. Sure, it costs less, but JDAMs were involved in one or two of the friendly fire and civilian death incidents
Benze 0 Posted September 12, 2002 I believe the FF incidents were errors by the people on the ground. The JDAMs worked great, far as I have heard.
Mister Frag 0 Posted September 12, 2002 Yes, at least one of the friendly-fire incidents involving JDAMs were the result of human error where incorrect targetting data was input.

kegetys 2 Posted September 13, 2002 Hmh... they should have left most of the slideshow pics off and let those video clips play on normal speed instead of accelerated like now, looks kindof stupid.

Mister Frag 0 Posted September 13, 2002 Also, Germany 'inherited' some MIG 29's after the firesale of what used to be East Germany, and flew US-made and Soviet fighters side-by-side for a while, and I'm not sure what the current disposition of those aircraft are. I believe they were to be phased out because of the cost involved in getting the avionics and weapon systems brought into compliance with NATO standards.
