Five - take the weapon from that soldier THREE VILLAGES BACK?!

Recommended Posts

Yeaaaaah.....

So here's the thing: I can order my AI to re-arm/ pick up weapons (select unit, pres 6, enjoy). However, I have no clue how these are sorted: If I pick the first one, the AI runs off hundreds of meters, only to eventually get his much needed ammo served to him by air. If I pick the last option from the list, the same thing happens.

Funny thing here being, ofcourse: The AI was standing right next to a suitable weapon (with ammo) to begin with. So: The list is not in chronological order, nor is it sorted by nearest>furthest.

How can I get my AI-mobiods to properly re-arm?:butbut:

VERY GOOD TOPIC this has bugged the living shit out of me for ever.

there has got to be a way of getting the distance added to the end at least like the target fix

oh the distance would be from that particular unit... not the player

Since re-arming is not reliable, tell your AI to stand near the desired source and then use the Inventory command. Although you won't know what object they choose until your give the order, they will choose the nearest item. And then you manage their gear manually. Rearm is better to use with vehicles and ammo crates.

Problem is, we shouldn't have to stand on the source. Crappy AI is crappy AI.

Thanks for the ticket. I'll try to work via their own inventory screens in the meantime.

We need a mod that allows units to auto rearm in Arma 3, like ASR AI for Arma 2.

The hard way is always the best way in Arma, especially AI control.

The "3 villages back.." only translates for me as 1 GIANT performance hole...

This is pain haha - in Adapt it was like holding a hand of that AI to help him re-arm

easiest but stupid way to do it is to - send him to place where is the ammo /right next to him/ and then by inventory

but then you gotta guess which ammo source has the correct ammo type ;)

ive done what RH said above 3 times before I found the correct ammo type for my soldier lol.

after rearming he died shortly after by friendly fire

This has nothing to do with AI. It's UI.

The Rearm items on the menu should be ranked by proximity, and the Inventory option should display the source in parentheses. Most of all, there should a context-sensitive Rearm option when telling AI to move to corpses (not default, but on the list).

I think what he meant is that the AI should be able to or be doing this by themselves.

+1 for this

You really want your AI running out of line all the time just because they're nervous about their ammunition levels? They rearm when I tell them, and not before.

If they're bone dry and have nothing to fire, yes.

I think he meant that all twenty options to "Pick to a Katiba 6.5mm" , could be condensed into a single choice. The corresponding unit would then determine the nearest Katiba, and grab that one, along with some ammo.

Im OFP ALL inventory options (pick up grenade, pick up AK47 magazine, etc) were all in the action menu, so that made things easier.

Well I'd rather have them ask for ammo first, or get an option like "5, give a magazine to 2" before they run off. Also, ammo bearer shouldn't be just for show, he should have an AI similar to medic... Someone yells "running low", he tries to move over to him so he can rearm from his backpack.

This was on the same ticket that implemented both distance and direction to targets on the UI -shame they didn't add the weapons/ammo

The problem with this is that a unit will start to complain he has no ammo if he has fewer than six magazines. A unit's 'ammo level' seems to be based on a percentage of his maximum carrying capacity, not how much actual ammunition he has for his weapon. They shouldn't try to rearm automatically, at least not until the AI is capable of identifying how much ammo they are carrying and what 'out of ammo' means.
