Wode101 1 Posted September 25, 2013 G'day all. I have been playing games on a 27" Dell IPS monitor at 2560X1440 for a few months and have really enjoyed it. However, my system doesn't perform to my liking running ARMA 3 at that high resolution. I have decided to downsize to a 24" monitor and run at 1920X1080/1200. At this point, the decision is between purchasing a 24" IPS or a 120hz TN panel (the new BenQ XL2420TE perhaps). I realize that ARMA may not fully benefit from the high refresh rate of the 120hz monitor due to lower FPS. Any comments or suggestions regarding this decision would be appreciated. What monitor do you play on? How's the performance and picture quality? Thanks
Pac Man 10 Posted September 25, 2013 I'm playing on an older 22" HP flat screen @ 60hz, with the native resolution of 1680 X 1050. Not that I would recommend it though LOL, as there are cheap higher quality monitors availabale. It serves me well though, I play with everything on ultra & it looks great. becubed 24 Posted September 25, 2013 You could always just run it in a window at lower res and save yourself some cash. I do on mine as 2560x1600 is a bit much for my rig.
Harzach 2518 Posted September 25, 2013 Dell U3011 here, running at 2560x1600. Running at 1920x1200 gave me a very small performance boost (~5fps) and looked terrible, so I'm staying at full res. Have you tried running 1080p on your current display to see if the performance gain is worth buying another display?
joschaap 1 Posted September 25, 2013 3x LG E2441T-BN @ 5760x1080 only posible on stratis though, on altis i have to switch back to one screen due to the drop in performance :j:
Ezcoo 47 Posted September 25, 2013 Get IPS for Arma. And this is from 144 Hz TN user (Asus VG278HE). If I had a chance to switch this to IPS monitor now, I definitely would.

Yeah using the native resolution is usually the best. Else it will usually look terrible.
griffz 1 Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) wrong. you can disable scaling , and let a sharp and "DPI" native display in center of LCD plane. ps: with ATI card , check "use centered timing" in catalyst panel Edited September 25, 2013 by griffz

You really prefer IPS for playing? Don't know, never tried, always 120 hz
Ezcoo 47 Posted September 25, 2013 You really prefer IPS for playing? Don't know, never tried, always 120 hz  Yes actually. The difference between 60 Hz screen and 120 Hz screen is very small, almost unnoticeable to most people, if the FPS stays below 75 (that is the case in practice in Arma). I'm sitting 1 meter away from my screen and the colors still change in the edges of the screen. If I move my head, the colors change because of the very, very narrow watching angles. The colors are worse and contrast is not that great either. In a nutshell, if you buy TN for Arma, you can't enjoy the benefits of the panel type, but you suffer from the downsides of it. 120 Hz+ TN panels are considerable choice for very fast paced gaming (like COD, BF, CS), but Arma is relatively slow-paced and FPS very very rarely reaches even the 75 FPS in practice, so the benefits of TN panels are more than questionable in Arma. giorgygr 61 Posted September 25, 2013 a 19'' Samsung 10 y.o. model off course! It allows you to play on 320x200 so you have a permanent performance boost ..and also gives an advantage to player seeing the other players as "moving-boxes" in dense or empty environments It's cost efficient also :)
TheMightyMooseKing 10 Posted September 28, 2013 Playing on some 23.6" HannsG Monitor with 60hz and 1920x1080p, I might upgrade it soon to something better though.
