RN Malboeuf 12 Posted July 20, 2002 I was playing on our Roughnecks server last night it was the mission where the three groups attack to small towns GIs, Bradley and a sniper team one guy had custom voice files that even showed text when the files were played now Im conected with sockets and running on Team sound so I Know it was not VON My question is how did he do it? it was like custom voice files in Unreal Tourney he had clips from Mars attack "we come in peace, please dont Run - Ack ack ack ack" and the little martian from bugs bunnie that has no head under his helmet that was sweet, I would kill for that. I'll post more as I find out (sorry if this is known toy)

AndOne 0 Posted July 22, 2002 Just make a folder called "sound" in your user folder. Then place the sounds in that folder. To use the sounds while in a game hit 0 then 9(custom) Works both in MP and single player. I would convert the sounds into ogg. When you join a MP game, each user has to download your sounds from you. So you don't want to use wavs or large sounds files.
bn880 5 Posted July 22, 2002 This is kind of off topic but is VON still owrking in resistance? I can't get it to work on my server... nothing goes through. I'm gonna do a search
AndOne 0 Posted July 22, 2002 I believe VON will no longer work in Resistance with the new "socket" MP code. VON used DirectPlay. Maybe if you switch back to DirectPlay it will work. But I would not do that. Use a 3rd party voice chat like Roger Wilco.

Yea, Roger Wilco does a very good job, but VON would be better.
waterhead_1 0 Posted July 23, 2002 DO any of you know any cool websites where I can get sounds from for OFP:r? Or where I can get sound files? Also, how do I convert the sounds into ogg?
Evan110185 0 Posted July 23, 2002 so do i just put a file named 1.ogg into my sounds folder? and then i press 1 to use it?
cargo 0 Posted July 23, 2002 check the OFPediting centre and avon lady for guides to sound conversion and implementation. I use DbPoweramp to convert and you have to script the sounds in your description.ext. Look for Lustypooh's old guide. http://www.ofpec.com/

I have converted some Ghost Recon sounds to ogg. You can download them here. Place them in a folder called sound in your user folder. Ghost Recon Sounds To use them press 0 then 9 when your in the game. I also use dbpoweramp for converting wavs to ogg. Its free and easy to use. dbpoweramp home page
RN Malboeuf 12 Posted July 31, 2002 these sounds add major delay to load times I had 500 k worth of sounds in 10 files and it took 1 min to conect to my server at 27 ms the players that start using this will start to crash servers since it has to send the sounds to each player during each conect I run 3 sounds now only at 250 kbs and it's still a pain in the ass
Placebo 29 Posted August 3, 2002 Hmm if I'd moved this to MP where it belongs in the first place it would have made finding it again much easier and also would have avoided (possibly) the dupe questions popping up.......
Cyanide 0 Posted August 3, 2002 Thanks for the link, placebo ;)
kegetys 2 Posted August 3, 2002 Too bad the sounds dont play "the right way" when using Direct Speaking, just plays in global channel :/ Edit: also, the "repeat" command command uses the same menu number as the custom radio menu, so whenever a leader has given you some orders you cannot use the custom radio messages anymore
RN Malboeuf 12 Posted August 3, 2002 yea Also I made 10 1 meg files and crashed my own local server I've seen a server stall when more then ten users conect and they all have sounds have to increase the speed the server spreads the files and limit the size of the files
Capt Morgan 0 Posted August 4, 2002 Well I was about to warn you of this pandoras box. But I guess you already found out. We at frag at one point all had custom sound files. Some funny stuff too. But we then realize the draw backs to it and now kick anyone who has them. Oh if you want to if anyone has them just check your temp file. See instead of loading the file to the server. It loads the file to everyone on the server. You know this is a great game, but man some wierd stuff. Personally I like to see more things put to the server side. This way people will have less to download.
Die Alive 0 Posted August 4, 2002 I found this out when AddOne was playing on this server one day and he was playing these sounds, and then afterwards, I just happen to see his name in the tmp file and saw these sound files. That got me thinking and I did some checking at OFPEC and that got me doing some of my own. I try to keep the total of the .ogg files to a max of 100kb or less, and I keep the sounds to maybe no more than 2 or 3 seconds. I got mostly FMJ sounds (me so horney, me sucky sucky fifteen dollah), and got some others from movies. I don't really have a problem with it, as long as they keep the files small (save as 44100 Hz, mono, and 40kbps) and don't spam the airwaves with the same annoying sound over and over again (imagine hearing "Yeah baby (austin powers) 20 times in one minute). For me, I only play them in boring parts of the mission, like when we got to drive for 2 minutes to the battle, or right at the begining (i got one "I wanna be the first kid on my block to get a confirmed kill" from FMJ) or when we're just about to attack the Russians ("Well boys, I recon this is it, combat toe to toe with the ruskies" from Dr. Strangelove). -=Die Alive=-
RN Malboeuf 12 Posted August 7, 2002 yea, it is fun some one, my Elmer Fudd ones go great with hunting in OFP, and now russin uses Chech and Chong ones when I kill him and I take his guns he plays Chong "Hey man... don't take that man" heh
Kermit 0 Posted August 15, 2002 I only use one small one, and that's my signature Mobius quote from Soul Reaver 2. I have yet to rerecord it since I deleted it; my old one had the game music in the background, and the new one will not. "By my soul, you nearly had me, my little blue assassin!" In case you were wondering, my online name is Little Blue Assassin, and I've got a horrid bright blue face to go with it. *Grin*
