Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted July 26, 2002 OMG! This is getting sillier and sillier. Our friends across the sea (Americans) have once again enlightened our hearts and minds with their serious and friendly manners in their own country. Now the fatties are suing the fast food chains due to "Unhealthy food servings". Anyway, seeing the IQ oversea is dropping drastically, im getting worried a bit that one day, we will actually see a whole continent filled with Bush-IQ-level. D-Day any1? http://www.realslimmers.com/Content.go?id=6121
Scorpio 0 Posted July 26, 2002 pretty dome stupid people....i mean how can anybody not know that fast food is bad for you? And they are sueing the companies!
Longinius 1 Posted July 26, 2002 People sued cigarette companies to. I don't think its strictly a matter of Americans being stupid. I think it has more to do with a stupid legal system that allows you to sue others because you yourself is ignorant / stupid / lazy / greedy / clumbsy. And not only can you sue, you can also get pretty rich of off it.

CosmicCastaway 0 Posted July 26, 2002 It's mostly down to a greedy/stupid/ignorant (delete as appropriate) mind-set as Longinius has already pointed out. Some people will always look for ways to take advantage of a situation, hence the massive number of those stupid ads for insurance companies promising compensation for someones own stupid actions. Salon.com recently had an article relating to a similar situation: http://www.salon.com/tech/letters/2002/05/31/fat_asses/ Quite an interesting read. It's not generally just the Americans, although they tend to start a trend, and the rest of the world soon follows suite. An ignorant greedy ass, is still an ignorant greedy ass no matter where they live. Â

Paratrooper 0 Posted July 26, 2002 I remember reading about a woman who got a microwave (when they were pretty new things), she took her dog for a walk but it rained. The dog was small, so she thought that it would be a good idea to dry him off in her new fangled microwave. She sued the makers for the dogs death, because it didn't say anywhere that it would kill animals, she won millions of dollars! Only in America, as they say. Now all products are plastered with disclaimers.

MJM0771 0 Posted July 26, 2002 I think this goes back a few years ago when someone sued McDonalds because they burned their mouth while drink a fresh cup of coffee. DUH! Since then they printed a warning statement on the cup. "WARNING: Hot coffee" Reminds me of Homer Simpson. SPORTSCASTER: "If you have Football fever, There's only one cure, take two tickets and go out and see the game tomorrow night! Warning: tickets should not be taken internally.: HOMER: "See, because of me, now they have a warning." LOL!!!!!!!!!! Now I can see some (repeat SOME) cases where people suing the tobacco companies because a family member died of cancer. Thats a little different. There's nothing chemically addictive about food. I heard on the radio that one guy reported that they're commercials were too entising. Gimme a break! Sounds like to me that there are more and more people out there just looking for an excuse (any excuse) for a hand out. Thats pretty damn sad.... MJM
KingBeast 0 Posted July 26, 2002 My girlfriends dad told me an interesting story abotu that whole suing MacDonalds over the hot coffee thing. Apparently it was down to the guys smart lawyer, because he did some digging around and found out that at the same MacDonalds something like 12 other people, possibly staff were reported to have burned themselves from the coffee. So that gave a pretty good case and the courts wanted to make an example of MacDonalds anyway. He also told me that the way they figured out how much the guy would get from the case was that they calculated the earnings in one day for cups of coffee sold in MacDonalds across the world. Whether thats all true or not I dont know, but it certainly sounds about right
Harnu 0 Posted July 26, 2002 Ya, one old lady spilled coffee on her and sued for it being too hot. And will some of you people stop thinking that all Americans are idiots? Cause all of us aren't. It's these kinds of idiots that sue becuase of fat food that gives us a bad name I vote to deport these idiots and make them give some other country a bad name.
CosmicCastaway 0 Posted July 26, 2002 I think you'll find other countries have their own supply of idiots, so you would have a hard time exporting them. You could always put them all in microwaves, although I hear they have warning stickers on them nowadays.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted July 26, 2002 this lawsuit will not go through. tobacco lawsuit succeeded since there were known to be harmful compositions in cigarrettes. and nicotine was proven to be addictive. but unless it can be proven that the fastfood chains are putting in chemicals that cause this to be addictive, the suit will falter. KingBeast 0 Posted July 26, 2002 Hmm someone at work said the case was that the fast food places had implied that the food was healthy or not unhealthy, and after believing this and chowing down on the greasy food, the so called victims were told by their doctors that the food was unhealthy? Benze 0 Posted July 26, 2002 The "Coffee" lawsuit was a very good case. http://pages.prodigy.net/gaglenn/lawoffice/coffee/truth.html McDonalds had their coffee at a temputure which could sear right through, ie, completely destroy all the skin, within two seconds. She suffered 3rd degree burns on 6% of her body. There were around 700 other complaints about the heat of the coffee, but McDonalds refused to do ANYTHING about it.
