5 populated servers... this is turning into Arrowhead before it's even released.

There's a number of populated servers running the dev build. Recent hacking issue may have cause some people to do some server downtime until the fix is implemented in the stable build.

Which I personally find hilarious. The hundreds of people playing this game nightly are all running the stable builds.

But isn't this an Alpha? Isn't the sole purpose of running this very early pre-release software, to find bugs? Wouldn't it then be logical to run the beta developer builds as these have the most recent fixes to problems? So imho, the hackers were a good thing. It forced lazy people onto the branch of the game that matters. They'll probably still all be useless and never report anything, but at least their presence makes it easier for us to test problems and report them.

You really want the vocal majority to be bouncing around in the Dev version? The ones who struggle to tell the difference between vanilla and Wasteland? It doesn't hurt development that they're using the stable branch, so what's the problem?

Most user made missions have been created with the stable build so hence the majority of stable release servers.

This isn't surprising; I believe someone said/pointed out that they made missions only with stable build because it'd mean less work compared to all the potential changes in dev build that could break a mission and the needed fixes.

This would be fine and dandy if they were vanilla missions people were mostly doing, but it's not. It's the 50 something Wasteland servers and the hundreds of people who think this is DayZ 2.0 and just want to play a game, not alpha test.

1) No contents yet;

2) Cheating (due to no anti-cheat yet);

3) Hacking (see above);

4) Very bad performances;

5) No "good" news from the release day (the ones who let you decide to "give a look");

All these reason are contributing to the current situation: the "hype" is over and the alpha emerges for what it is: just an alpha. If/when the above points will be addressed (beta? release?), we will finally have a stable/good userbase, until then forgets to have a fair amount of users aboard. My clan abandoned it too.. and we were playing ArmA for like 6 hours per day every single day! :)

The smugness is very rich with this one!

Sooo basicly what BI has been saying for a while and that which is plastered on the start up screen as well as many other screens?

Yes, the "error" (if we could call it as an "error") has been to put this alpha on Steam. You may says it seems to repays initially (some incoming cash, buzz around your product) but the downside is that as soon the hype goes down, you must handle all the increasing user noises... especially when there's so much to moan about (see the previous points).

No matter if you call it "Alpha", this is Steam.. it's not exactly a developer lobby or code experts or even amateur beta-testers, the majority is about normal players that sees into the "Steam early access program" the opportunity of playing a game before it is released. It may seems a good way to test a product, but it's not (because it's not controlled), it's just a way to trade your normal development process (and time) for money.

If there's a good thing about it, is that after years we have realized that some of the old code (i'm referring to the multi-thread issue) is still here and so we had the opportunity to tell the devs: "hey! wth you're doing? after 4 years you didn't fixed this? move your a** and fix it before it's released!".

No, the error was with anyone who expected it to be anything more than "just an alpha". Which appears to be the majority.

Sounds like a prerequisite for being an "old hardcore". :p

On the other hand, SPOTREP #00003 is up heralding the MP security changes and stable patching the game to 0.56, so we'll see what's what now.

I use the dev build and not many dev build servers out there, and if, often empty. Also mouse movement is often delayed here with Arma III, which makes me play A2 Wasteland in my spare time pretty often.

No, the error was to charge $3X for an alpha. Have run into numerous players who had no idea what an "alpha" build typically is or thought that "Alpha" was just part of the title. Seriously.

People who pay money have certain expectations.

"Shut up and take my money"?

They got what they paid for. Access to the alpha and beta stages as well as the full game on release. Ignorance is no excuse. Caveat emptor.

That's why it is a BIS error: to have believed that the "majority" of ppl on Steam would have understood the difference, but the majority of Steam audience is about average gamers, not about "testers".

Yet they can read and must have seen all the warnings about it.

People will come back for the Beta and the full release, when there is more contenct avaible, more mods and so on. And those who dropped the game early on will have a nice surprise by the release.

Every gamers know what "alpha state" means for a game.

I honestly think you give a good portion of people too much credit regarding their intelligence.

But realistically, most people didn't buy this JUST for the Alpha. They bought it for the pre-order, and the Alpha was a nice bonus.

I call shenanigans, and also feel obligated to point out: the people who payed money get access to a full game. If you can't or won't accept that, then of course it seems like a bad deal.

It's honestly a better deal than many/most "AAA" game new releases.

Yes, they have clearly overestimated the average intelligence of their target market.

Depends on one's definition of "their target market"... some here seem to fear that BI's definition has broadened. ;)

I don't think it's BI's fault to be honest. It's more Day/WarZ's fault than BI's. BI is the vehicle, Wasteland/Zombie kiddies are the passengers. Destination: fail lol
