Vault,Dive,roll for movement?

Recommended Posts

Might have been covered already...but are there any plans to add diving, vaulting, rolling, and general jumping? Seems like something that should be there or am I just missing it?

There was a

found in the alpha, and Das Attorney's Jump MF mod (client-side) unlocks for use when jogging or sprinting (walk and tactical pace just have the standard step over) albeit with several limitations such as its own fatigue system (that is, irrespective of whatever BI might implement, though of course this is subject to change) where the number of such "jumps" that you can take before exhaustion dependent on if you've got a a carry rig (or plate carrier), a backpack, primary weapon and/or launcher. No report from BI as to whether they're doing anything official with it though.

Please no, going to prone is all you need to escape incoming fire behind low cover. This isn't your typical action savvy game.

"Diving" happens, is in game and do not resemble the infamous Dolphin Dive.

Combat rolls in the other hand...

I wouldn't call it a dive since the feet hit the ground first then the rest of the body, plus iirc it's in A2 aswell, and is used as a means of getting into prone from a mobile point. I wouldn't call it a dive at all. Combat roll has also been see in A2, in some missions you could press T and the player model would execute a forward roll, without the ability of quickly firing after it though, which is the intent of most CR's.

Personally my understanding was that the problem of dolphin diving wasn't the animation of a guy quickly lunging/diving into prone (frankly I pity anyone for whom that's immersion-breaking) and more from how in certain games that allowed dolphin diving the gameplay mechanics weren't "balanced", so you could'd have prone accuracy kick in before the character had actually become prone with the movement limitation of prone kicking in.

Oh yes, using dolphin diving as an argument against jumping was not a smart move there ;)

You just shot yourself and everyone arguing that jumping is a bad idea in the foot.

Now your arguments are nothing but stumps!

:yay:

If this is supposed to be a simulation then why can I jump in real life?

Are you doing that with a 95Ib standard weight of a soldier? (Weapon/Ammo + Plate Carrier) Not to mention the 2/3 day backpack used (40Ib at least). That's 300Ibs of weight on your knees, I'd love to see your knees give under that weight after you 'jumping' around.

There's now way you would jump in full kit. Even if you tossed your bergen and were down to your combat webbing jumping isn't viable. You need to exercise some care when negotiating obstacles so a) you don't snap your ankle or any other shit and b) you don't get snagged up in anything either. There is no instance in RL where you can jump like they do in BF or COD and any jumping animation would should only raise the height of your feet about a foot off the ground and propel you maybe 3-4 feet (it could be set against your weight of course) so you could jump over a narrow whole but that's it.

But then I did miss out on the Advanced FIBUA: Bunny Hopping course :p

I don't think you're going to care how much you weight when you're trying to dive behind cover

Sorry for sort of reviving the thread, but I found this:

I think this is the most appropriate place to put it. Anyway, I wasn't able to find any news on this mod, but I think it's awesome. Something like that should be in vanilla.

It's on the forums here somewhere, those were animations already in the game but hidden, they were found and made to be used.

no it isn't. if you watch the whole video you will see that you can climb over walls and on roofs too and not only jump.

i am the one working on this mod and aside from the jumping animation all animations are made by me and not BI. i will make a thread about it soon. still polishing it and getting it ready for first tests. keep looking in the "mods discussion" section. i'm gonna announce it and post a new video showing my progress there in the next few days.

I saw the whole video, thought it was the same one as the mod that allows for jumping, just with extra animations unlocked. Looks a lot like the anims smookie made for A2.

There is an animation sample in the config that shows what appears to be a soldier jumping off a ledge. Not jumping straight off but rather the way a person would lean down and use hands to soften the impact as best as possible.Just checked and the animations are no longer viewable but it was there and I saw it!!! Had me kinda hoping.....

what you are talking about is a get out animation for vehicles with high entry level. pretty sure it's still there. the anim viewer just got rearranged a little. i use another get in animation to make soldiers step on small obstacles. if we would get better animation tools me and others could make almost everything happen.

you will see in my next video:)
