Streetlamp upgrade - alpha I

Recommended Posts

Good idea. The default lights are too dark.

But after trying your mod, i gotta say, that your lights appear a bit too bright (in my opinion)

Here some comparison shots:

Could you create a "darker" or "low" version with light strength just between the default one and yours?

which is what? I like the darker ones!

I have to say I like the lighter ones ... those orbs arn't ment to emit light streaks... when you look at those types of lights there have a nice glow.. I think Saku's lights are nice.. The white orb lights in the first picture do seem a tad bright .. mabye just a hair.. but the third picture set. saku's lights are Perfect!!!

The darker ones are default ARMA 3 Alpha. The bright are the mod.

I like more the original ones too. But hey, its a matter of taste and only an option. Would like to see different versions.

@tremanarch:

The darker ones are named "default", the brighter ones "saku". ;)

I'd also like a version, which lies between the default and the sakulight (light strength wise).

There should be a performance drop for the simple reason of the light illuminating more polygons. This is just test #1, I am still looking for a solution to the fps drop and I am still tweaking everything

Screen shots look lush! Keep up the good work... You could even add the odd light with a flicker.. Or have the whole sodium bulb warm up effect, where they go from pink to yellow/orange. Also just for info, did you know the wave length of a low pressure sodium lamp (SOX) is around 589.3nm. This particular wavelength has the effect of washing out the colour of most other things so whatever you are looking at seems to be shades of yellow, grey and black.

Haven't tested but will do tonight. A random flicker light would be awesome and life-like. Even having different clarity lights would be sweet, but I'd say difficult to implement.

Actually it would make more sense to base them around more modern light standards...it is supposed to be 2035 right? By then it might be difficult and expensive to acquire old lights like that. That's another reason the lights should be brighter, light output per watt has increased greatly recently and I would imagine that technology would advance greatly in the next 20 years.

I love the brighter, could use a tinge of tone down maybe but if you're going for a real bright look then thats understandable, just so nice to see some BRIGHT lights on the street in this engine..

My only sadness is that lights still don't cast shadows, it would eliminate light bleeding through and could be used to create some gorgeous as well as creepy scenery.

Glad to see you release these smaller mods for Arma 3! Nice job, albeit just a tad too bright like others have pointed out.

@Fabio

Sorry about that. I just tried the command using vehicles and static objects (like street lamp objects) and could not get it to work or could not see any specific effects. It is possible I am using it wrong or it will not work correctly (yet) possibly related to the street lamp related commands (switchLight, lightIsOn) not working correctly yet related to this issue:
