Westonsammy 1 Posted January 29, 2013 I have been wondering for sometime, will ArmA 3 have multiple profile names, like ArmA 2 does? Incase you do not understand what I am talking about, in ArmA 2 you can make a seemingly infinite amount of profiles (or just delete your old ones and make new ones) and name them anything you want, even if someone playing ArmA 2 already has the same name for one of their profiles. This can be very problematic when trying to keep someone out of your server and very confusing when people disconnect from a server, then reconecct with a different name to mask their identity. It also makes it very hard to find people you have met in-game again, because they may switch to another name, or someone else may have the same name as them. There are community fixes for this, or other ways to identify specific players, but those are often much more labor intensive than simply knowing their name. This could be fixed by making the players steam name their ArmA 3 profile name, but i'm assuming that ArmA 3 will have a non-steam version aswell, so that probably won't work out. It could also be fixed by simply only allowing the player to have one profile, with only one name that cannot be changed.
slatts 1978 Posted January 29, 2013 I've seen servers with a script in that know who's who. So if connect as Slatts, leave then join again as say Joe Bloggs. It will say "Slatts has changed his name to Joe Bloggs!" Or something along those lines.
metalcraze 290 Posted January 29, 2013 (edited) This can be very problematic when trying to keep someone out of your server You ban the CDKey not the name. It doesn't matter if somebody creates 1000 different profiles in the same installation. It also makes it very hard to find people you have met in-game again, because they may switch to another name ...so? There are dozens of ways to keep in touch if you care about playing with that person enough and it's not a reason to impose some limits on profile names of all things. This could be fixed by making the players steam name their ArmA 3 profile name You do realize you can change your name on Steam to anything you want at any time including existing ones? Nicholas 5 Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) You do realize you can change your name on Steam to anything you want at any time including existing ones? This is partially correct. On Steam, you have your login name and your display name. You can change your display name to whatever you want at anytime, but you cannot change your login name or have the same login name as someone else. I personally believe that they leave it just as it is. I prefer using my real name, there are many people who have the same name as I do. Having the ability to use my preferred name, even though someone else will play with that same name, is quite nice. Why can't you use player's ID to tell one from another?
Nicholas 5 Posted February 14, 2013 Why can't you use player's ID to tell one from another? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that we haven't been able to see other player's IDs since an ArmA 1 patch. I recall being able to type in a command and being able to see ID's of everyone in the server but this has since been reserved for administrators only. FredTche 10 Posted February 14, 2013 The Bohemia Interactive accounts can be used for the profile names. Or maybe something similar to Bad Company 2 can be done. Have multiple profiles linked to one account (In Bad Company 2, the EA account; In Arma 3, the BIS account).

Just as Steam currently works. The login name could be the BI account name while the display name could be anything the user wishes.

Nathan1506 1 Posted February 15, 2013 Missing the point. We dont want to have to find IDs, or add people on social networks etc just to play with them again, or to ensure the person your talking too is the person you think

Much easier to add them on steam etc. to chat.
