GTX 560 Ti bottleneck - Extremely low FPS.

Recommended Posts

mon.jpg

I use this to monitor if there's any issue with my system. As you can see i also use GTX560 but with i7 cpu.

Usually when i encounter any lag, i will alt+tab to desktop and check what is causing bottleneck on my system. Any lag is usually caused by bottleneck on either CPU,ram or GPU but sometimes hdd or if i'm really unlucky none of the above.

I'm running everything at stock value, didnt bother to oc' my gpu at all. But for arma2 if there's no bottleneck on CPU or GPU then the culprit is usually the hard drive because arma 2 is notorious in pushing the hard drive especially for loading stuffs in game. I manage to reduce lag ingame especially around major town area with a lot of building by adding a ssd.

Hope this will help in finding the culprit on your system, because when playing online even my GPU is only around 20-30% at 1920x1080 res at 5000m viewdistance.

Maybe you might need to check your ramdisk properly because ramdisk is supposed to be on par or faster than a ssd.

I don't understand this bit: "since using ramdisk its alot smoother".

We've been researching RamDisk concepts for improving performance with this game, and have ideas to build a PC around such concepts.

RamDisk is where you partition part of your RAM to store either the OS or the game itself to be run as if it was a HDD/SSD, which requires between 8-32GB of RAM, or more!

So....my question is: How are you "using" RamDisk? What data are you loading to your RAM as if it was a HDD?

AFAIK you would need to either run Arma from your RAM (needing 32+GB of DDR3 preferably) or installing your OS onto your RAM (less than 16GB needed) to be "using" RamDisk, or perhaps just a Paging File?

A few of us at VETERANS-GAMING (one Computer Engineer, one IT-specialist, and myself) have been discussing a "perfect" Arma system utilizing sets of SSD/HDD arrays that can take advantage of 6Gb/s transfer rates, and large amounts of RAM for RamDisk usage.

We are very interested to learn how you have used RamDisk to gain perfomance on a system such as yours, and any successes you've had.

I just run the DayZ mod off of Ramdisk and use a symbolic link to "link" it from where it should be to lead to my hard drive which is made from my ram. It only takes 400MB.

Edit: I see where you're coming from needing 32GB and why it makes it faster by just having the mod there, i don't know, but it improved my performance alot.

preferably divide used/installed between SEPARATED ram-disks.

so, i put my swap file on one of them, Arma2 on second and GIMP/RawTherapee/Photoshop[and God-only-know-what-else-software-you-can-use :)]on third.

placing USER and/or System temp-folders on ramdisk is speed-up things too, but more dangerous[4 power-failures impact w/o PSU usage], but had notable effect too. palliative would be to alter such variables[pointing("%TMP";"%TEMP%"; to such folders TEMPORALLY before running Extremely resource-hungry appz, such as games and reverting it back, after it, probably by batch[cmd/bat/js/vbs-file(or some other syntax/language]file, used to running it

do you have lots of background processes running when you play arma?

grab you Windows installation media content, grab RT7Lite and do SERIOUS/HARD stripping-down of it, with following burning, re-install and using it, after modifying.

make actually 64-bit Win Vista Sp1 and Win 7 SP1 perform FASTER than 32-bit WinXP RC1 does in past days :)))

p.s. did it on separate partition, dedicated to gaming, to evade [possible]side-effects, discussed on both vLite and RT7Lite forums/blogs.

I just had 50% GPu usage while in the player setups creen(before you load in a server) when i loaded in it went

FML.

Did you try this..

Set Power Management Mode to 'Prefer Maximum Performance' in nV CP and see if that helps you.

...because maybe you have problem with this

Power Management Mode: Available only for the GeForce 9 series and above, this feature makes use of these graphics cards' abilities to support different performance levels depending on how much power is required by a 3D application. The available options here are Adaptive and 'Prefer Maximum Performance'...

However if you are concerned that a game is not performing properly, particularly for troubleshooting purposes, then you can change this setting to 'Prefer Maximum Performance' to ensure that the card is always running at maximum clock speed. Remember that this setting only relates to 3D applications and games, not to the Windows Desktop for example.

I've defragged my arma 2 and will edit this when i have been ingame.
Your game runs from a SSD and you defraged Arma2? Your OS is on a HDD? You loaded a RAMDISK with the @Dayz folder?

Is your HDD really full? Is your HDD a old 500gb or 250gb relic? What SSD do you have?

You run in a window? Window mode almost always lowers your clock speeds and usage of CPU and CPU.

In your Nv 3Dsettings/control panel all the setting are off? or at med/quality, NOT high quality? No sneaky "Global" setting adding filters to your ARMA2 profile? Have you looked at your ARMA2 profile that comes default with your Nv drivers?

Do you use the OA Betas? or are you on 1.62.. Does DayZ us ATOC? Or is that a OA only feature?

In all of this you haven't given any Info on your CPU usage?

"-cpucount=6 -exThreads=7" A2 only uses 4 cores. Some posters have had better success with cpu count 3,(because some SW will(in 2D mode/desktop)lower all the cores speed down when using 4 cores. Also is your Turbo mode on?

Do you have your "Onboard GPU" on? or is it off in the bios? Do you use any Gigabyte software, like the easytune?

did you fall back to the 209.xx driver.

51% Usage or 15% usage ? maybe its waiting on the CPU, which is waiting on the HDD?

If I had to hazard a guess, your running in a window with power saving settings on and losing focus when typing in TS. AND your HDD isnt upto the task, and even tho you did use a RAMDISK it can and does still get put into Cache on the HDD if certain options are on, and you really want all the right pbos in RAMDISK.

It was on my SSD, i took it off as it made no difference, i did defrag arma 2 and redownload it, my OS is on my SSD, ramdisk had the @DayZ folder.

My HDD has ~120GB free, it's a Seagate Barracuda 7200 500MB Sata 2, around 2 years old now i believe

No windowed mode, but when i start my game on the beta patch it keeps putting me in it so i have to take it off, how do i prevent this?

It's set to prefer max performance etc

I have ATOC set to trees and grass i think

Ill try using 3 cores with 7 threads, i believe turbo is on.

I think my onboard gpu is off i believe, it's not in my device manager anymore. - Not sure what easytune is.

I tried going back on my drivers, didnt change anything.

15% usage.

Window mode on start up is most likely due to a Profile being loaded.

Mess with this app "NvInspector" http://downloads.guru3d.com/NVIDIA-Inspector-1.9.6.6-download-2612.html

Easytune is Gigabyte's software. If you had installed that, it could be loading up at windows with some powersaving profile.

ATOC disabled will give you more FPS.

In the MotherBoards BIOs set all the power type savings to off, make sure your CPU isnt lowering its self. See if you can set it to a small OC . Turbo is usually only for one core so when Turbo is engaged it can reduce the power to other cores...?

There has been reported issues with video cards running at 4X speed in there 16X speed slots... Nvida , it would be nice to rule that out.

When you test, is it only in MP on a Dayz server?. It would be good to go into the editor (go to single player options, choose editor, dbl click anywhere on the map, hit the preview button. check your frames set your settings.).I use Elektrozavodsk about a block north of the docks for my Cherno test. if I can get playable frames there, I can play anywhere on the map.
