mordeaniischaos 3 Posted May 20, 2012 One thing that bugged me in Arma 2 was that there were a couple things that seemed to be third person only. I am worried that things like underwater diving will be third person only, and I like to be immersed in a game like this, so it'd be awesome if you could play the game without EVER leaving first person. Especially for HALO. Remember the very start of the original Crysis? That was awesome. That with an Arma flair would be awesome.
Flash Thunder 10 Posted May 20, 2012 (edited) Lets start another thread. I don't see you being around here for long. Put in appropriate thread. By the way you can HALO in First person. Edited May 20, 2012 by Flash Thunder
Luckz 1 Posted May 20, 2012 On the other hand, how about having everything third person playable in some reasonable way? Using tank guns properly in third person and so on.

Nicholas 5 Posted May 20, 2012 Everything is playable from first person. I believe in some of the ArmA III videos, I've seen the underwater element in first person.

The latest footage shows underwater gameplay viewed from the first person perspective.
nodunit 397 Posted May 20, 2012 On the other hand, how about having everything third person playable in some reasonable way? Using tank guns properly in third person and so on. Because the purpose of third person is more about situational awareness rather than using it as the primary attack camera. Besides, you still have a visible cursor from the tank gun in third person, provided you are the gunner or commander, but surely you don't expect something to be implimented that would display height over range and things of that nature for a third person view. As said before, the two are just camera's, you can switch between them at any time, there is no forced mode for anything.

If you wish to play the game without third person views, turn them off in the difficulty settings :) On the other hand, how about having everything third person playable in some reasonable way? Using tank guns properly in third person and so on. Well, there's certainly a challenge here with the way the view is set up and the high amount of parralax error associated with angle off aiming. I'm not exactly sure how they would correct it, either by moving the reticle to where the shell might hit or the shell to where the reticle is pointing, but either way there would still be some weirdness with it. Right now, the reticle is some fixed distance away, say 100 meters.
Phantom Six 25 Posted May 20, 2012 Simply play ARMA in expert and you'll never have 3rd Person. You can switch view here and there by clicking the enter button on your number pad to switch between first and third person if you're not playing on expert. paecmaker 23 Posted May 20, 2012 Isnt this thread closed, Just like all other ArmA games you can play this in first person only, or they havent said you cant, and that would go against the whole thing of ArmA.
Robster 11 Posted May 20, 2012 spam notice :) 3rd person view = XBOX360
max power 21 Posted May 20, 2012 The developers say that the 3rd person view is useful for compensating for the lack of proprioception you have in the game. I tend to agree. I also use it to make the view more interesting on long treks. I would not agree with your statement as a blanket statement, Robster.
Robster 11 Posted May 20, 2012 nah! 3rd person view is ok for taking aerials pictures before deploying, even inside vehicles when your are not the driver or gunner since it helps to enjoy idle moments during a mission, however ingame it's a sort of cheat to me... I would play everything on expert just to get rid of that "Gears of War" console gaming style... perhaps it's just a feeling... as a matter of fact when I can see my character from behind I'm playing with a tiny soldier moving him around, otherwise, I'm deployed there... on a mission :D
matty1053 10 Posted May 21, 2012 Everything in ARMA III will be first person or 3rd. Optional to user! :) I bet it will tho. My points... First Person... Better in CQB Attack Chopper Missions, ect. Third... Trans Heli/Jet Tank Driver Hummer Driver Ground Vehicle Driver. Both... Sniper missions Some missions Maybe gunner in vehicles. Depends.
max power 21 Posted May 21, 2012 (edited) You don't have to play on expert to get rid of third person view. All you need to do is edit the definition of whatever skill level you're playing to disable third person view. I don't understand the attitude that the third person view is somehow dirty because other games that are less simulation oriented use them. Does that mean you're some kind of sim hero if you don't use them? If you don't like them surely it's fully in your power to disable or to simply choose not to use them. NoRailgunner 0 Posted May 21, 2012 For many players it's just too interesting to use the 3rd person view in any situation! Sometimes its obvious that they have used it to cheat "guess"/"predict" where the enemy is or moving.
max power 21 Posted May 21, 2012 There have been arguments about this before, and many intelligent answers to the issue you just raised. That is, however, not the topic of the thread and I would like to avoid another long discussion about how 3rd person is or isn't cheating.
liquidpinky 11 Posted May 21, 2012 Through experience with ToH, you will be wanting to fly through those clouds in first person. Absolutely lovely. HALO jumping down through them is quite nice as well. Most of the time I will be playing in third person, like the awareness better.
