BF2_Trooper 0 Posted December 10, 2011 Just ranting a bit here, but are all fans of Fantasy themed RPGs a bunch of anti-military bleeding heart liberals? Just something I notice on forums, I always see posts such gamers stating that simulating modern warfare is morally wrong, blah, blah, blah and racist and we should all stick to slashing elves or goblins or whatever exists in The World of Lord of The Warcraft these days! Do they just hate reality that much that they can't stand seeing a bit of it in video games? :D
Beagle 684 Posted December 10, 2011 I dont know you and I don't know what you talk about But I like both genres, I just don't like them mixed up.

BF2_Trooper 0 Posted December 10, 2011 Okay, so there are SOME people within the "Fantasy" community like you two that are a bit more open minded. But maybe you can ask your fellow fantasy gamers why they hate modern day realism in games so much? Do they not know how much life sucked for the common man in Medievil times? :D
eble 3 Posted December 10, 2011 I play both, been a 10+ year MMO player and same time playing Arma/OFP. Different styles of play, MMO is laid back FPS is KIL KILL KILL! at 100mph.

And fantasy RPGs have nothing in common with medieval society, nothing. btw. not all fantasy rpgs are medival based. MOst are based on Tolkien Style worlds that are all pure fairytale worlds. But let me give you some insight, I play both world als for real as Reenacter and army reservist. I know that most of the guys that play 18. century line infantry soldiers never actually served in the army...or the other way around...those that served don't want to play soldiers anymore ;)
maturin 12 Posted December 10, 2011 Bleeding heart liberal fantasy gamer here. We have mostly the same problem with wargames that you folks have with CoD. That image gets pasted onto all military games, with the mistaken notion that it is realistic and just mindlessly reproducing the same boring gunfights and military who-cares jargon without a shred of creativity. Try to look at yourself objectively. The average BIS forumer spends half his posts bitching and moaning about the exact backblast effects of the M136 CS. Your average fantasy gamer looks at you like some sort of hyper-dull, no-life, morbid militaristic version of an OCD stamp collector for remembering that many acronyms. Never mind that his head is full of attributes and skill trees. I mean, realistic gun jamming rates? Laser vs. TV guidance? Can I get an enormous YYAAAWWWWNNNNNNNN
froggyluv 2136 Posted December 10, 2011 Just ranting a bit here, but are all fans of Fantasy themed RPGs a bunch of anti-military bleeding heart liberals? Do you really think thats an accurate assessment? Funny, my RPG MP (Warband) has quite a few *cough* verbose Conservatives who blather on and on about the Commie Warlord Obama who hates guns and 'Merica. While last week while MP'ing Arma2 with some German guys who thought even our Left was too Right. Probably more location based then game genre.

Don't think they're even AWARE of the different kinds of fire rates on a gun or that you can even switch fire rates. It's when they get all butt hurt about military shooters being morally wrong and we shouldnt be shooting pretend Arabs and stick to stabbing goblins an' shit that really irritates me. War, death, destruction like anything else that happens in reality is fodder for fiction.

Don't think they're even AWARE of the different kinds of fire rates on a gun or that you can even switch fire rates. Everyone knows the difference between semiautomatic and automatic. And anyone who has been within fifty meters of an Xbox 360 has heard the stupid NPCs in CoD screaming Alpha Bravo Oscar Mike Klicks Foot Mobiles AC-130 Blackhot and associated bullshit. The entire point of the first MW seemed to be showing off as much futuristic Pentagon tech as possible. And this all has wide exposure. It's when they get all butt hurt about military shooters being morally wrong and we shouldnt be shooting pretend Arabs and stick to stabbing goblins an' shit that really irritates me. I have like 20,000 posts on the elder scrolls forums over a period of four years and never once ran into any such sentiment. And being disgusted by the meatheaded jingoism and faux war porn of recent shooters has nothing to do with a general opposition to modern war games or political correctness. Or at least, it doesn't have to and usually doesn't.
MF_Washburn 1 Posted December 10, 2011 ...we should all stick to slashing elves or goblins or whatever exists in The World of Lord of The Warcraft these days! Made me laugh that one. I enjoy both genres, but I have a theory for those people you're talking about: Maybe they just feel slashing enemies that do not resemble what they are is easier. dysta 10 Posted December 10, 2011 Unless there's a solid survey or something to prove it, I wouldn't even think about it.
PELHAM 10 Posted December 10, 2011 I guess it comes down to what you prefer. I bet fantasy fans liked dungeons and dragons (the board game with lead figures and multi sided dice), playing with dollies and going to Star Trek conventions as children. Me - I liked Airfix Models, Scalextric, Airshows, guns of all kinds (remember when toys were really dangerous and fun?), military museums and playing army. Therefore I like Arma2 lol. max power 21 Posted December 10, 2011 And with that, PELHAM, we have come to the obvious conclusion that some people in this community can't be trusted to hold a polite conversation without unprovoked, provocative labelling, trolling, or other snide rhetoric.
