Unigine engine! Valley demo

Recommended Posts

Just imagine Arma in that engine :)

Nothing RV can't visually do

Except RV can do 100 times more than just drawing a non-interactive cutscene

What a disappointing post. What developers choose to do with an engine is up to them; but the thread is about what the engine is capable of. Take a look at the featureset and try not to imagine what a moron would do with it, try and imagine what a good developer could do with it.

Sorry to disappoint you but the problem is that there are a lot of morons in the gaming industry these days with dollar signs in their eyes. So i get a bit skeptical when there is a new engine with a flashy feature set that looks incredible and then says it's a multicrossplatform engine.

You are right in saying that a good developer could achieve great things with it but good developers are hard to come by and some of them have lame ass publishers like EA or Ubisoft that fuck things up because they need to keep the shareholders happy.

I guess i'm too much of a realist to see any promising games made with this that can truly shine on the PC. Time will tell.

At least the engine is capable of making use of modern PC hardware.

I get 25.4 fps average on Core i7 950, 12GB DDR3 and a GTX480:

So you may zip it with "Designed for consoles" and all that other nonsense.

edit... 22.2fps average on the latest version:

Hi all

By the way I think the RV engine is far superior but there is no such offer available for it so that is moot.

The UDK is an awful pile of seriously limited rubbish made for creating shoe box console games so is not even in the list the cry engine is marginally better than unreal but incredibly expensive.

So for new developers in terms of availability, capability and price this engine looks to be the best option.

Kind regards walker

I'm sure you can make a similiar landscape that looks just as great in ArmA2. The big bang thing IMO in that trailer is the view distance (or rather the optimisation of it).

Other nice tech:

Foliage rendering being done by Eric Bruneton & Fabrice Neyret. White papers here.
