How to stop Facebook from tracking you across the internet Also helpful: Declare facebook.com and fbcdn.net as not trustworthy in the Firefox AddOn "NoScript". st_dux 26 Posted September 28, 2011 Facebook has over 500 million users. Do you really think they care about your "personal information"? Chances are really high that you're not important enough for anyone at Facebook to give a shit, so you've got nothing to worry about.
[asa]oden 0 Posted September 28, 2011 (edited) You honestly think it's the facebook crew who'd be interested in personal info? I'd vote for some agency but I do wear a tinfoilhat at dinner each evening. Edit: Btw Bulldog Six, that picture is more than awesome hahaha :D Edited September 28, 2011 by [ASA]ODEN

Oh sure, your life might be intressting as a piece of wood, but other people should be worried about that facebook sale their data to their insurance company. Nothing special about, just if,.. maybee you do something which you discreet when your signed your treaty with them. By the way. The information about one single person isn't the point. Its behaviour research. If maybee 200 people wrote "i will go to XY Square today". Facebook knows roughly 200 People will go to XY Square and which people that would/could be. Man, the east german stasi would be impressed by this concept.
Beagle 684 Posted September 28, 2011 I don't see the problem with facebook. I have, like other, a fake account using an artist name or pseudomym there as most other peopele from my scene do on facebook and all other plattforms. You don't have to give FB a single real data. Facebook can only use data you give it, when your registration data is fake so is whenever they may do with it. Google+ on the other hand...thats the real trouble. Frostburg 10 Posted September 28, 2011 I don't use my real name of Facebook. My problem with facebook is that it is sooo damn difficult to use. It is not at all userfriendly. They keep changing things that only make it harder for a tech idiot like me to use. I don't even know how to update my status anymore. I need friends to help me upload my pics. The worst part is that they made it like that intentionally in order to force people to put in things that they want. I only put in my bare bones info. I don't include too many hobbies or whatnot. But I really don't care if they sell my info to an advertiser. Maybe then the companies will come out with better products that I might be willing to buy. Then again I am the type of guy who loves to fill out surveys because I believes it improves consumer products and services, and marketing strategies. Maddmatt 1 Posted September 28, 2011 because Google+ officially forbids the use of pseudonyms...they already suspended a lot of accounts...including some that simply had names for real the reminded of pseudonyms...like "Violet Blue". Facebook does the same thing and has for years. There have been cases of Facebook asking for ID to confirm name changes. Anyway, I use Facebook and find it really useful. If you're so worried about your personal information, then it's as simple as not putting it online. Facbook doesn't force you to reveal anything, it's all optional. Yep, I remember them banning people with real names that included Elmo, Yoda, Beer, Gay, Beta etc, plus there's the story of the Lawyer with the name 'Mark Zuckerberg'... mrcash2009 0 Posted September 29, 2011 (edited) You don't have to give FB a single real data. Facebook can only use data you give it, when your registration data is fake so is whenever they may do with it.Which is fine, but your not the next generation & the next generation being mind warped into "transparency" and have this tool shoved into you face on every website and smart phone and TV programmes using it and schools etc etc etc all pushing for personal information (correct information) to be added.Soon face-book will be seen as "the gate to the net" if more generations dont realise. Ive even seen the "trend" of people registering their baby on it ... I mean, dodgy ground, or a promotional stunt ... interesting ... Truman Show in a web page. Facebook has over 500 million users. Do you really think they care about your "personal information"? Chances are really high that you're not important enough for anyone at Facebook to give a shit, so you've got nothing to worry about. Hmmm, a database of willing participants behaviours, likes, friends lists, thoughts, ideas, all ready to data mine and analyse of over 500 million people, agencies, debt collection / police / FBI / CIA ... you name it snouts in that trough from the outset. When the government calls out for a ID database people have gone crazy and boycotted and shouting "big brother!" and all sorts, and yet this slips in perfectly like a cool neat tool and is nothing more than a wikipedia of individuals self created by the world in a self assisted ID database resulting in the same outcome. Its now on all smart phones by default (nearly) API shoved onto many sites and email sites, its not been put their and pushed for no reason wherever you look. Its not about what you think on a individual level its a collective database level, the OFP comic image sums it up perfectly. Facebooks mentality is "We will introduce more tools to spread private information, its all ok, you can opt out" .. while being the most promoted tool on the face of the web as far as I can see. This is in fact a prime example of brainwashing, or "packaging something differently". http://www.naturalnews.com/033713_Facebook_tracking.html And now, even after logging out of Facebook, permanent "cookies" track all your movements on websites that contain Facebook buttons or widgets. "Even if you are logged out, Facebook still knows and can track every page you visit," Cubrilovic wrote on a recent blog posting. "The only solution is to delete every Facebook cookie in your browser, or to use a separate browser for Facebook interactions" Ref the OFP's point.Facebook isn't about you or now, its about many and the future (young and new generations) & how much it can be intertwined into the backbone of Net 2 and all devices and ultimately people. Dead3yez 0 Posted September 29, 2011 At the end of the day, if you don't want people to have your information then don't give it. If you don't want facebook to have your phone number or address, then don't give it. The problem is when things start to get intrusive by taking your phone numbers and adresses etc without "consent" such as the mobile FB app that was taking people's phone numbers with very sketchy fine print written on the terms and conditions. Also, following which websites people are browsing... I don't want FB to know about all the child pornography I've been searching. Facebook has also done a lot of good too. Police have caught a lot of criminals because of facebook and other social networking sites with the information that they can share.

Frostburg 10 Posted September 30, 2011 I love how everyone was up in arms about the whole patriot act several years ago. It is still in effect. But I think facebook is worse than the patriot act. Facebook's business is virtually the same. Invade people's privacy and use it for whatever purposes they want. I mean the patriot act is meant mostly for keeping an eye on terrorism, therefore they are mostly focused on watching those who do terrorism. Facebook is about getting information from EVERYONE. And they do use deception and clever tools and apps to do that. Like I said, I don't put any info on facebook that I don't want everyone or anyone to see. I don't even use my real name. That's mostly because of my stalker ex-girlfriend. But still.
mrcash2009 0 Posted September 30, 2011 (edited) At the end of the day, if you don't want people to have your information then don't give it. If you don't want facebook to have your phone number or address, then don't give it. Very true indeed, its all a matter of free will. But as I mentioned before the way facebook is pushed into all corners of the net & devices, being used as promo sites for games/tv reality shows, schools using them and so on, the younger un questioning generations (older people for the future who will parent children and they will not question it either as mum & dad were on it) are the ones to sign up and think its cool.People like myself and what you post will just be "old complainers" once the balance is tipped with more and more up coming generations wired to it from the hand held wifi devices who knew nothing else than it being all around in their lives. Ive yet to see a company with a bit of backbone and actively say "we prefer not to use face book". Also they are bringing in the credits money/cashless element and also facial recognition, coupled with digi cameras watermarking images with map coords in headers .. but you can "opt out and switch off" mentality. Its a bit like "im going to punch you in the face, but you can opt out, although by default I can punch you in the face" way of thinking.
