New to MP, what modes are played and which addons/mods are needed?

hello i want to start playing the multiplayer but i have a few questions.

what game modes are there?

and can you play the game modes with ai players to?

Game Modes:

Coop:

cooperative game with players on one side and AI on the other. Usually with tasks to complete.

DM:

actually rarely played

Warfare (different versions)/CTI:

Team vs Team. Conquer villages (defended by AI) to gain superiority on the island, search the enemy base and destroy it. Earn mones to buy better equipment and vehicles.

Several Team vs Team Variants:

CTF, C&H, AAS and a lot more.

Others:

Role playing servers. It's not war, join in, organize your life, obey rules ar face the police.

I thinik that should cover the usual suspicious.

There is noobie guide for new players and a good FAQ also. You should start there for most things to help get your feet wet.

Same here, I am now picking up on multi-player for ArmA2 but I am wondering what I am going to need to get started. What mods are players currently using on servers or what mods are used, which ones are the popular or more frequently. Or, what squads or servers I can join. Any suggestions are welcome. Take a look at ArmA 2 & OA - SQUADS AND FANPAGES, see if you find a server/group/clan or whatever, that suits your desire.

Most squads list type of game, what to load and what not to load, required addons, how to behave etc., even homepages :)

Might as well learn about Six Updater cause you will need it for keeping addons/mods up to date. Gunther will provide the link or you can search for sixupdater (can't post links with cell phone).

@Chammy: if you would like to find new friendly people and have serious fun with them meeting on specific time, spare your time on co-op and try to look up for a decent clan, which suits your priorities best. It's quite important to have a stable ping, if you want to enjoy other modes - especially PvP action (no one likes to lose nowadays... hm, well, exceptions still exist, though).

Really, any game mode in ArmA is possible. The only limitation is your mind or skills.
