campaign projects on hold or abandoned.

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I'm always working on different projects simultaniously, rather then focusing just on 1 thing. I love making campaigns haven't released anything yet it's all WIP. One of my weak spots is not being able focusing on one project and bring it to the end in short time. Making a campaign is a hell of a work, something really huge when done by 1 person. The workload is overwhelming.

So since I'm playing from OFP CWC there have been a lot of projects of mine never finished.

The only release where I partecipated and released something is dating back to OFP Resistance times.

"Too young to die" was the campaign title made by Toy and me.

I had 48 mission long campaign project in the works on Nogova 50% of the missions were quite advanced the other half was still in it's baby shoes. Campaign had a propper plot and I was about to finish it.

Then the day came where my HD broke down. Luckily made a back up on DVD only to find out it's data was corrupt, not withstanding I controlled the disk when I burned it and everything was OK.

You can't immagine how I felt in that moment.

Anyway I bend over and took it up like a man.LOL:eek:

Then Armed Assault was released.

Started on a campaign called "Dog Tags"

Around 40 missions basically done. Lot's of missions advanced others still basic. RACS against SLA. Couldn't finish it since ArmA II was released. Project momentarilly abbandoned.

ArmA II

- Operation Red Dawn

20 missions Russian campaign WIP momentarilly on hold

Valley of Death

- 36 mission campaign on Namalsk WIP momentarilly on hold. It will get a complete overhaul when finishing a couple of things first.

Hammer of Thor

14 mission US campaign on Zargabad WIP and quite advanced. Gonna try to finish this one first

Silent Corps

14 mission BAF campaign on Tora Bora. WIP. started this one when DAC was released. Second to be finished on my list.

Every single campaign comes with propper intro's and outro's and a plot to tell.

My main enemy is . . . that I ain't too much time on my hands to dedicate to finishing the projects anytime soon.

So the purpose of this threat is to find out what have my fellow mission makers cooking in their labs. What projects have you running and what did you abbandon.

Hope to get some feedback on your unreleased stuff.:D

C'ya

I am looking forward for the 14mission US campaign and BAF campaign, really like the British units and weaponry.

Too young to die i remember that :) good campaign.

Wow you have so much campaigns wip. I allways focus to end 1 campaign and then start another. Maybe you should make not to many missions in 1 campaign or cut few add outro and releas them to community. If you get new ideas you can allways add those missions and make part 2 of this not finished campaign.

Talking about "no time" and presenting such a long list of campaigns is kinda paradox, isn't it? :D

I remember Too young to die, was a great campaign.

Back in the OFP days I started working on several campaigns, too. Basically it was always the same story, spinning around in my head since 2003. But the result was never satisfying so I dumped it after a few missions were complete.

Some time after Arma was released I went back to OFP "just to kill some time until 'Game2'". So I started working on this campaign once again - "just for fun". I created probably the 2 1/2 best missions I had ever made until then, plus a 20-minute intro cutscene. Yea, I was somewhat proud of me and really looking forward to creating something being worth to finish. Guess what happened: My HD crashed - and I had no backup. (Yes, I can imagine how you felt.^^)

Then came Arma2, and I had planed to finally complete my campaign. The intro and first mission were finished quite quickly. But then I decided to focus on other projects first. Get used to the new features, create some SP missions, and wait some time to see what fancy addons are along the way.

Nearly two years later I finally started working on the campaign. Again I had 2 1/2 missions completed - and guess what? Arma3 was announced. LOL. No way I could get my campaign finished until then, therefore - I dumped it once again.

I guess I'll stick to SP missions for Arma2 and maybe make a campaign for Arma3. Currently I have 6 unfinished missions and a bunch of "experiments" that might or might not turn into something "mission-ish". Should be enough to kill time until next year. :p

Reign's End

It's a campaign about the events following to and caused by the independence of Chernarus in 1991. Most missions have a concept ready, one of them is fully playable and some of them are half done, but I always have other projects in the way. If it gets done, it will sweep the floor with such paltry campaigns as Cobalt or BotS.

Ohh I remember Too Young to Die, loved it :D

I have always had a lot of stuff in the pipelines which I've wanted to release. I need to start making a mission and then finish it before making anything else.

I had a campaign like 75% of the way finished for OFP before my hard drive broke, was a bit of a shame... wish I backed it up

The cause 2 - I am making some missions to try and complete a small campaign version of this but the story line is changing direction from the main characters joining the Russian army to fighting inside the ranks of the Chernarus insurgency while looking for a way out of the country.

The original plan for the campaign has been scrapped though. Mission length was supposed to be 10 missions and will probably be more like 3-5.

Warhorse

It was meant to be a mini-campaign of maybe 3 missions detailing the British taking of Shapur from the insurgents that fled Takistan in the closing days of Operation Arrowhead, an operation entitled Operation Warhorse. However, I only ever got around to finishing For Queen and Country, what was to be the first mission of the campaign, and never had time to finish it.

I think that "abandoned" stuff should be released in as-is state, otherwise this thread doesn't have too much sense IMHO.

And think how many good missions we would get.

I got definitely a focus problem but this is due to all the stuff our modders are releasing. There's luckily too much stuff to try out and most mods and addons are really top quality stuff I dare to say. Now even if I would have the time to play 24/7 it wouldn't be enough time at disposal to explore everything.

I'm a big fan of our terrain makers.

The bit of time I really want to dedicate to editing is limited by my own choice. I'm not always inspired and have a million of other things which I'm doing. I need also the time to enjoy ArmA by simply playing user made campaigns and giving some feedback.

Making a campaign is a huge workload for 1 person.

When working on Dogtags (Armed Assault) the big number of mission was due to the nature of the campaign. After the second mission you were forced to withdraw and take a decision where to withdraw. That would lead to different mission sequences as campaign path. You could play two completely different campaigns depending on your choice you made. But it is not far advanced enough for release. maybe one day;)

Talking about "no time" and presenting such a long list of campaigns is kinda paradox, isn't it?

HI Clayman

Not really . . . given my BI tour of duty.LOL:D It's ten long years. The best is . . . that I still enjoy it.:yay:

Hi Celery

looking forward to when it's released.

Thanks man. See you had bad luck too. Huh?

Hi Rejenorst

Played Your campaign "The Cause" you made for Armed Assault. Very well done and the icing on the cake was the voice acting. Loved it.

Looking forward to new projects from you.

Hi Zipper5

I hadn't had the chance to play "Blood on the sands " yet, but I played Operation Cobalt. Had real fun . . . well made campaign. Get it voice acted and it will be perfect.

It's the icing on the cake. When the time comes I definitily will ask the community for help with voiceacting. You should do the same a humble suggestion of mine. I hope you don't mind this little criticism. I am personally of the opinion that the voice acting and story telling increases the value of a campaign. Yours is already good it's just lacking this very important detail. It helps for immersion and helps the player to identify himself with the plot character. That's why Operation flashpoint campaigns were so great.

I think that "abandoned" stuff should be released in as-is state, otherwise this thread doesn't have too much sense IMHO.

And think how many good missions we would get.

Hi JonPL

Armed Assault is history. Maybe one day I will finish it who knows. There are currently some other projects far more advanced to be finished first. So you'll get something new to play. I don't know if hey are going to be good, but my goal is people having fun playing the campaign first then they decide if it's good or not. I opened this threat to figure out if there are some other folks around here, as much dispersive as me when it comes to campaign making. So for me this threat has a reason to exist.LOL:D

I am looking forward for the 14mission US campaign and BAF campaign, really like the British units and weaponry.

Hi Sgt Gul

The only thing I can say fore sure is that they get released when they are done. No ETA.

That's why I haven't opened an appropriate thread for my little campaign yet.

thanks for all your replies.

@nettrucker

With so many wip campaign i think you have no choice you must focus specifically on one and finish it. Otherwise you will be added next few missions for each campaign and a few months later you find out that nothing is close to completion. Finally, you lose your enthusiasm or you end with ideas and everything in the worst case will go to the trash. If you want to add voice acting then you have even more work. So my advice is to focus first on this campaign, which you think is closest to completion, release it to the community wait for the feedback and then finish the next one. As the proverb says: a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, It is better to finish a single campaign than have 20 unfinished. :)

Good luck in making the campaigns, i can wait to play them.

I made a little teaser video what's it like playing the US Campaign.

I hope you gonna like it.

Hammer of Thor is in a pretty much advanced state some fine tuning still to be done. Will be ready soon for a first beta release. Unfortunately without voiceovers.

Get it voice acted and it will be perfect.

I tried, for Operation Cobalt, Blood On The Sand and even For Queen and Country. I got a couple offers but not enough to fill the roles and fill them properly. I decided it would be too weird to have some roles voice acted and others not. Plus, you can also run into the problem of having bad voice acting, which draws you out of the experience as much as no voice acting.

However, now I am too short on time to do further updates for my already-released work, but that's not to say that a couple surprises aren't on the way. ;)

Man i know how you feel, One campaign i wanted to properly start was a campaign focused in Isla Duala where UN tries to keep the peace so to speak with the civil war going on. First mission was partially done, where the President of side A would drive by in a parade in a large city, get assassinated and lead to the civil war with missions focusing on protecting the peace, escorting civilians out of the warzone, and negotiations. I had 3 or 4 pages filled with ideas and character names and roles. But never actually did anything with it. The story was all mapped out, but frustrations in the first mission made me end my work with that.

In my missions folder i have over 200 missions with wierd names that Its difficult to figure out which ones im still working on. Not as bad as my music projects in FL studio (which ranges in 10000s project files)

I've started and abandoned:

Operation Deadhouse- A co-op USMC Campaign paralleling Razor Team's campaign on Chernarus. I released the first 4 missions.

Something Wrong- A co-op zombie Campaign using the Undead Mod and Mercs and Blackops where you play an ex-special forces soldier training the duala police force when... something goes wrong. I released the first 2 missions

Operation Sandstorm- A co-op Special Forces campaign using TF86 SEALS where you play a SF team on Fallujah operating out of an Army base when a resurgence of the insurgency happens. Made four missions, never released.

Operation Iguana- A co-op MARSOC campaign on Lingor where you are dealing with a huge drug cartel that is murdering and kidnapping American Civilians, even from across the border in the USA. Made 4 missions, never released.

Voice acting is not an issue for me. I don't feel it's necessary for good campaigns(and trust me I've played them all. I just deleted over 2 gigs of savegames from my campaigns folder in ArmA).

I had a russian campaign coming for Chernarus with 4 almost ready missions, then I delayed it to play with Operation Arrowhead and finally my HD broke and I forgot to backup it for new HD. Still I only miss one of the missions it had.
