E3 info

Recommended Posts

Just saw the Gamespot E3 livestream showing ToH.

- Release should be october 2011.

- They are (apparently) planning a beta, the details of which are being announced "in the next few weeks".

- Working controls in the cockpits were shown.

- MP will involve coop and PvP, for example races.

- It will apparently have PhysX just like Arma3.

- There are problems with rendering the pilot body in first person, but they are working on it. (Currently no pilot is visible.)

- Clouds will apparently cast shadows.

I found this interview, I'm just watching it.

Not worth watching terrible sound. :)

Looking good... I wonder if the ocean swell in ARMA3 is in TOH ? Be pretty challenging to land on a rolling ship deck... No MP footage though, I hope it runs similar to the IL2 style ... ie blend in warps rather than instant position updates.

Well, if Arma3 has RTT like TKOH, and clouds as in TKOH, lighting..and both have physX..at this piont I'd be willing to bet that water is the same, it would be great for missions as you said....oh..I see future coast guard addons.

Very good stuff, definately buying. I'm so happy that this one is going to have PhysiX too. Something else to upgrade for aside from ArmA2/3. :D

By the way, I wonder if people will be able to carry guns? Because it appears that it's pretty much like ArmA2 with a fancy set of major upgrades.

Edit: the website has been updated with new media.

This was a bit of a misunderstanding in the presentation, because TKOH will not be using PhysX. Our flight model physics are definitely new and way more advanced however. We also simulate new rope physics for things like sling load operations, winching and fast-roping.

Does that mean that Arma 3 will not have rope physics for similar battlefield operations?

Sorry, I did not mean to imply more advanced than A3, but rather than previous titles. The A3 team is free to use any technology developed for TKOH, but it's up to them to select what specifically, and whether or not it's necessary for their gameplay :)

Your answer is very much appreciated and supports the general understanding that technology will be shared among the three new titles (even though it is safe to say that Arma 3 will get the bulk of it): Render to Texture, Rope physics, volumetric clouds, etc.

I guess we should assume that the physics of Arma 3 will also be improved upon [the base PhysX code], even though it will be understandable that aircraft won't have as high definition (of flight models, damage, details) as in TKOH.

Ah well, flying is still gonna be awesome. Just no crate tossing on the ground, but I can live without it. :)

After watching the E3 feed again, I noticed that the fat man got no love, didnt even say bye to him. :biggrin_o:

It is, Arma3 is getting the volumetric clouds, maybe the shadow system, both are sharing physX. Arma 3 is also getting render to texture and I wouldn't be suprised if the two shared some assets.
