dmarkwick 261 Posted May 27, 2011 It's a thin line :) but the reality, at least in the UK armed forces, is that you must follow orders. If you do not, you will be court-martialled, but you have the power of redress and the possibility of being found, not innocent, but in some way not guilty. Don't know the legal term for it :D

Don't know the legal term for it :DI'm not sure if this works in cases of definitely and obvious warcrimes...see Iraq and Abu Graib.I give you a simple example: The sergeant gives you the order to scrub the floor with a toothbrush...well...thats's an incorrect oder and the classic example used in lessons. You have to follow this order, but you're free to use whatever tool is available...if no tool is available but a toothbrush you report back that the mission is impossible. ScratcH1 10 Posted May 27, 2011 (edited) Mr Španěl begs to differ ;)Best, RiE Popular belief is that ArmA is simply an acronym of Armed Assault. It's in fact true as that is how the name really started with the release of Arma : Armed Assault in Europe. ArmA stood for Armed Assault but at the same time it's a completely new name. Got it now ;) Btw, thanks for the link :) Edited May 27, 2011 by ScratcH1
Primarch 10 Posted May 29, 2011 Stying alive IS the top priority, eany other priority is dumbfuck sheepslughter or wannabe heroism. Self and comrade preservation is teached first in boot camp, the rest is hollywood hero bullshit. Nah, the rest is real life. High command does not give a shit about you unless you are dead. The top priority is to get the job done, THEN comes the staying alive. Have fun spending time in jail if you fail the mission.
Provac 0 Posted May 29, 2011 Usually soldiers tend to stay alive by doing their jobs correctly. Training, training and more training makes a soldier a reactive force. You are not trained with survival in mind, but your training will keep you alive. That's why drill sergeants (instructors) hassle their recruits to weed out people who cant perform their tasks because it gets people killed. Its not about brave heroics either, Hollywood style rush in and get killed. But a soldiers fears of death makes him more alert and this will also save his life. But a soldiers fear of death does not make him prone every second as if being pinned by constant machine gun fire. It slows the movements of the group in a unrealistic fashion I think. But in the end, would be nice if they open up the AI more for editing by the community.
Beagle 684 Posted May 29, 2011 (edited) Politics is all baout fatalities, and military doctrines are al albout politics nowadays...high fatalities make you loose the war at home thats why there is so much effort nowadays in keeping fatalities low. Thats why attacks are not goinf to happen when forces are just equal...a 4 fold superiority is needed to keep fatalities low. Thats how it is done ...don't do a job when you're not in the superior position. This is usually not reflected in ArmA series. Flogger23m 2 Posted May 29, 2011 We can only hope the AI gets better. It is one of my biggest complaints with ArmA 2. Surely there will be some tweaking done.
