Community feedback - improvments for Arma3

Recommended Posts

The ability to carry MG's along with a launcher.

Customizable Soldier Load

- Choose your uniform, assemble your weapon kit, change your loadout, get encumbered.

Maybe they will allow it and just let the encumbrance system determine the proper affect.

Well, it's how ACE2 does it, and it's the way i'd prefer it to be.

As people keep saying, the netcode is the biggest issue. This needs to be totally re-written.

Also, the menu, editor and user interface needs a revamp, make it look nicer, more welcoming, easier to navigate etc.

Also, a 3D sound engine needs to be implemented, similar to that of Bad Company and upcoming BF3.

Obviously improved AI is a must

And many, many enhancements for the engine.

Top of my list would have been:

1. A Physics engine that belongs in this century

But seeing as they're drawing attention to that maybe they've nailed it now.

So...

1. Improved Sound engine

- Could do with some environmental audio, firing a rifle in a valley would sound very different to indoors I imagine.

2. Improved User Interface

- Having to look away from my screen to find the right "F1 - F12" key is retarded.

-- Logical/Intelligently structured rose menus are an EASY solution.

3. Improved Voice comms

- I know Arma 2 has a pretty neat built-in VOIP but why bother?!?!

-- 90% of the comunity use Teamspeak, why not just set up a pipeline to a plugin and do what ACRE has been doing with GREAT success.

-- You can even make it part of the game engine, (losing contact with your air support cos your radio man got sniped adds great immersion!!!)

4. Improve the SQM scripting language

- It has rough features that mimic object oriented like coding but why not go all out?

-- Allow inheritance, overloading contructors, custom object classes etc. (if this is already possible then pardon my ignorance)

UPDATE: Prayers..? Answered: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?128800-Take-On-Java&p=2073101#post2073101

---------- Post added at 11:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:58 PM ----------

Oh, a 5th point!

5. Carry over old content!

- All those old islands and models will be missed :(

-- This is a mammoth task which no SANE company would do but how about an officially supported community project?

Auto Mod activator/deactivator.... I hate joining games and being booted for having/not having a mod active......

I'd like missiles to all have different seeker heads that affect how they are used...

Vehicle component damage.. Eg Radar damaged on jet mean it cant use it...

Radar upgrade... Radar uses a cone of detection.. Can be turned on off.... Sam sites can be slaved to control radars...

In the editor instead of loads of units.. we have a camo selector...

Aircraft carriers that can carry aircraft and move... Hercules that can carry vehicles...

Flares/ecm

Proper stealth for RAH-66 or anything stealthy... Not just undetectableness....

Winch/ropes for fastroping etc....

If a vehicle has 6 m-guns that fire at once... could they actually do that please?

I would love to see any of these included

Oh yeah and please please please include being able to animate vehicles properly... So we can mod in mechs later.. I dont want you to include them in the game... Just give us the abilaty to add them in :P

Oh yeah and one thing that really bugged me with the F-35 in ArmA2... The hatches didnt open when missiles were fired.... Looks like you've corrected this on the commanche though.

Thanks for reading :D

As a real life serving sniper, I feel somewhat let down by the sniper experience in ArmA 2, here's my wishlist:

1)- Ballistics - Now that you have the PhsyX engine at your disposal, I would very much like to have fully simulated bullet drops.

2)- Wind - I know that this would be very hard to implement since you can't actually feel the wind in-game, but perhaps at least making the trees and grass sway according to the wind would be enough.

3)- AI Spotter - An AI that would call out targets, best estimate ranges (or if he has laser-rangefinder, then real ranges) and corrections for missed rounds.

4)- More variety - I would love to see the .338 round added in-game, maybe even the .416?

5)- Moving flora - The ability to move local vegetation to make yourself an ideal sniper hide.

Better close quarters battles and interiors.

Ability to move inside and on moving vehicles. I'm thinking shooting your rifle out of a Blackhawk or moving around inside a C-130. To say nothing of boats.

Better stealth. Right now the AI can spot me a kilometer away at night in the rain if I use a suppressed rifle.

I just feel a little bit confused what kinda of battlefield experience that BIS really wanna to bring us. I remember there are some old-fashined weapons and future armed vehicles both appeared in the officially announced screenshots. The combination of Mi28 and Ka52 really makes me feel sick and, as well as the tank that we've never seen.

If ArmA3 is still a kinda of realistic game, developers should be true to today's moddling.

If ArmA3 is a kinda of game of future warfare with realistic simulation, old weapons should be removed.

No one can make sure that those future weapons will come to light when the day ArmA3 published. So whatever, it seems to be impossible to remove what BIS has already made.

My only hope is all the script codes in ArmA2 can be ultilized in ArmA3 and, I don't want a new ArmA3 features is on the cost of removing some features that ArmA2 owned.

3D audio and 3D editor.

Sound that travels at the speed of sound. I want to see the explosion in the distance, then hear it several seconds later. I want to see the A10 rounds explode all around the enemy at my front, then hear the ripping of the cannon a second later as the jet flys overhead.

Dude, the only tanks pictured are the Merkava 4M and the Namer.

Scrap that entire futuristic warfare concept!! Well if not, at least I'll spare some 30 to 40 Euros...

The series has had that feature for awhile, hasn't it?

I'd say improvements to the environment in general! Don't over-do it with the washed out effects. Chernarus was the best environment I've ever played in a video game. Just about everything was spot-on.

Urgent:

As others have said, the netcode needs to be drastically improved. In fact, the whole multiplayer experience can be better. If possible, I'd like better notification of what mods are required, if any, and the ability to filter servers that require mods. Perhaps some servers ran by BIS would be nice, as they can focus on some of the rarely-played-but-still-good stock multiplayer missions. In addition, there should be a "history" tab (servers that I've played on in the recent past) and a favorites tab, in addition to an easy way of inviting friends to a specific server.

Similar to this, I'd really like to see Arma III be properly optimized. I'm not saying that the other Arma games have been terrible, but they are partially notorious computer hogs. Yes, I've seen the requirements and, yes, I'm going to have to upgrade my computer to play the game. But if, even at that, if I'm not certain to get a solid performance then it'll be difficult justify the purchase of a new computer.

Optional:

Better system of control. This includes the bulky and awkward options list brought up by the mouse wheel. You know, sometimes it can be a pain to get in a vehicle by having to choose the command through that list. I understand that there are already several keys being used, but it'd be nice to see a more fluid system of control. In addition, selecting keyboard controls in the game options might be easier with a "virtual keyboard" image, rather than a list.

Unification of features. I haven't seen this one mentioned before, but it is something that has bothered the perfectionist in me. Some weapons, such as those attached to vehicles, cannot bring up iron sites through right-clicking (instead, one must press numpad 0). In this same way, some weapons cannot zoom in or out either (without press numpad + or -, at least). It's the little things like this that make the game feel unpolished.

Lighting. Honestly, this one has already been mentioned several times. To add something, though, I'd like to say that the light limit really makes helicopters look bugged. Sometimes, when the a helicopter has its lights on at night, a nearby lightpole will flash with them. It's strange and slightly bothersome. In addition, I find that the shadows in Arma II are quite dark. Even in broad daylight, shadows, especially those on trees, make the environment look sappy and uninspired. This applies to both shadows on the back of objects and the shadows that they cast on the ground behind them. Just as a note, the grass sprites in Arma II tend to pick up much more light than the terrain itself. This looks strange and they should be equal.

Weather. Again, this has been stated earlier, but it'd be nice to have more options when it comes to weather. For one, sliding the notch all the way to the left should result in more than just a weak thunderstorm. In addition, I'd really like to see proper fog, especially at night. Currently, what tends to happen is that the terrain and objects will disappear at a distance, but the skybox still remains. This results in an obvious line where the fog begins because it doesn't blend in with the background.

AI. Obvious AI improvements would be to help combat. Currently, the AI will not take cover behind all objects placed through the editor - that should be changed. And, of course, vehicle AI has much to be improved on. In addition, better control of the AI through the editor can make it easier to create good missions. One problem that I've ran into several times is that it seems impossible to actually guard an area - meaning they'll defend it without leaving the boundaries. I understand that I need to place a trigger area but overall it doesn't seem to have any affect. Other than that I'd really like to see better civilian AI. This includes creating a "panic" setting, where civilians will run and hide at the sound of gunshots. I hope that this would work well for both individual citizens and large groups alike.

Sound. Alright, I'm going to make this real short. If BIS can create 3D sound like in this video then I'd pretty much buy Arma III no matter what. ;)

AI improvements is primary on wish list, they can only get better.

So many things i want, here comes a few.

1: Scripting commands to take absolute full control over AI unit, disregarding any default beheaviour, danger or rationality, basically make AI a empty puppet or droid we can tell orders to.

Example: move carelessly through a street of enemys and mines and bombs and bullets flying all over at walking pace, with flashlight on wistling, Fuck the magic dragon.

(disableAI does not do the job atm)

2: improved "jumping" ability, also added for AI.

the current "step over" is not good, also would be nice to be able to climb taller walls, like jump or stand and grab with hands, pull up.

Enter and exit through windows as well.

open/close certain windows, break windows to enter or shoot in/out.

3: ingame fully animated and "physical" rope, of dynamic lenght.

for rappeling, climbing, fast roping from helis etc.

4: attachTo commands with "swivel" effect.

like attaching a trailer to rear of car, it will flex in the attachPoint, based on wheels of attached object (trailer)

[object1,[0,1,0]] attachTo [object2,[0,-1,0]]

5: customisation commands for weapons like add flashlight, red dot sight, acog sight, grenade launcher, ghillie wrap on rifle etc.

could just use the attachTo command for simplicity, and brute force the positions based on if type was attachment and what kind.

"flashlight" attachTo (primaryWeapon this);

(maybe this was already included)

6: working 3D editor, fully compatible with 2D editor, preferably same functionality as 2D editor with the only difference that units/objects can be placed in 3D map instead of 2D.

7: AI improvements. new commads like stack up at door, clear building, fortify building, shoot and see through windows, more idle animations/beheaviour, sit on available chairs, car hoods, fences etc.

AI driving has been mentioned, but this is a major fault with arma AI, so heavy focus should be on this.

Females can use weapons same as male, most armys today have female soldiers.

8: a civilian yacht and a swan dive move since we can swim in Arma3 :)

So many things i want new or changed, i will never be able to create a full list of them.

One thing is sure, im very exited to see new Arma3!!!

I can only agree on the 3D editor. This would be huge for me since i suck at scripting, and essentially can't place anythomg inside buildings etc.

Oh, and I want houses, complete with basements, attics, and larger houses for CQB.

I would like to see detailed armor coding that you find in WWIIONLINE and kind of find in RO/DH.

BzpUVtVUBTI

I would like to see emphasis put into the multiplayer aspect of the game, which is sorely missing from the good old days of OFP:CWC and RO/DH. I want to actually have 64+ human vs. human deathfest.

Improved gameplay. We need a better and more fluid movement system.

More efficient interface and easier to use command system that has squad leaders commanding fire-teams instead of having to manage every individual in a squad.

A good immersive campaign that starts slow and build up the difficulty and scale as we progress. Something we have been lacking since OFP.

Don't go so overboard with the polygon counts on trees and bushes this time that our FPS drops when we get close to them.

Making a better and more polished experience overall should take a much higher priority than implementing fancy stuff that pleases a few realism freaks. OA has almost all of the realism features we need like FLIR and shit. Just improve the game itself.

Some people will hate me for this but my break from BIS games has given me a different perspective.

The above highlighted would be awesome. A real chain of command where squad leaders command their fireteam leaders and the fireteam leaders then make individual commands to their fireteam members :)
