required spec's

I don't get why people(not just you) ask these kinds of questions, we don't know ANYTHING more than you do. All we know is what BIS has shared with us.

So all the WILL AMRA 3 RUN DX11 OR USE MORE THAN 4 CORS, AND USE MORE THAN 2GB OF RAM comments can stop now, it's getting pretty annoying.

Just asking incase someone had heard more than me.

Nope, no one have heared anything more than announced by BI.

We just have to wait and see.

Hard to answer this. As far as you know, usual workflow is to make features into engine and then optimize them. We are too far before release to judge this.

However the specs published should be enough to run game on normal-to-high details.

I believe the game should be playable on slower machines.

Let's wait with the upgrades. It's at least the year. :)

If its stil 32 bit there would be XP metioned as OS...but it's 7 and Vista only and DX10.

That's a pity. No XP [even x64] (that's 40% of installed user base) and required i7 immediately cuts off a massive proportion of potential purchasers.

Got to admire their balls in putting their vision of a future proof product above profit.

Remembering how A2 v1.01 was compared to v1.10, I dare say that if BIS could

release a properly optimized final version of A3, that the system requirements could be dropped considerably ?

Again, beeing a DX10/DX11 only game, you need Vista and upwards. Nothing one can do about it (and i wonder why a game developer should be supporting an unsupported OS - afaik M$ is not supporting/selling it anymore).

It says i5 not I7, but anyways, in 2 months time, intel will release i7's 3rd generation (3xxx models). AMD should be putting their new generation CPU's as well (bulldozers) before december just as well.

So, by summer 2012, the PC harware market will look completly different anyways (i5s/i7s and bulldozers (4 cores is the norm today as well for a proper new PC) paired with AMD HD7xxx series as well as 22mm 6xx series (Kepler architecture).

In perspective the hardware requirements doesn't look all that high.

Moreover, BIS is far from beeing the first to do this. check BF3 hardware requirements:

You can evolve by sticking to console powered PCs, can you?

Doubt that the system requirements will drop all that much. Optimization means using the hardware to its best, not making it run on aging hardware.

If we could use nVidia Tegra for computations in ArmA. That'd be cool.

Jokes aside, I like how some experts here comment on 64bit support, no Win XP support, RAM usage, etc. The game will be released in a year! It's at alpha stage at best and optimization is the last bit you do to a game before releasing it. We ain't even there yet.

I will just hold off buying a new computer until 2012 and then use the recommended specs to guide my next purchase :) :) :) :) :)

Seriously, it's a year away.. too soon to be worried about this. By the time the game is out who know what pricing is going to be like, what new hardware will be on the market, and so on.

This is the consensus reflected in several other posts which I'm hoping many people are taking to heart. For the love of god, do not purchase a pc now JUST for ArmA3. Save your money, or be very wise on how you use it for pc parts between now and when the game is released. Last thing you want is buyers remorse.

It's funny but ArmA really does drive my computer purchases now. I had to go out and buy a new computer to play ArmA2/OA reasonably, and I will either have to upgrade it or buy a whole new rig to play ArmA3.

There is just nothing else I do with a computer that pushes its specs quite the way ArmA does. I play a variety of other games, but once my rig is fast enough to play the current release of ArmA I don't even bother looking at the hardware specs for other games. I just know I will be able to dial up everything else to the max settings and it'll be fine.

I even had to upgrade my damned HD to an SSD for ArmA.

The other game I play a lot is counter-strike, and I get some hilariously high number of FPS on that now even when I dial up all the settings to the max. Really nothing pushes my machine the way ArmA does.

Expensive game! Too bad BIS only earns a small fraction of the money I spend on it--they should get into the hardware business!!

The way I see it.

Buy Arma3, upgrade your computer so that you can play with all the bells and whistles maxed.

Simples.

I had my current sim/game PC built to run Arma2, which it does very well to the level I wanted, the only things on the PC are Windows 7 64bit and Arma2 plus related Arma2 mods etc, I do not use the PC for anything else. The next will be built to run Arma3 to the same level with the same thing in mind, but only when the first 6mths or so have passed post release, I’m a little worried it may be heading down a mass appeal audience route, whilst great news for BI, and they do deserve recognition mass appeal wise, for me this could take out the reason I wanted Arma2 so much, just hope I’m wrong, mass appeal and unique greatness is very hard to mix together.

There again provided its got a mission editor, I will no doubt be buying it and the PC to run it..

‘Arma3’ only trouble is, it has big boots to fill, but will it fill them…..I for one certainly hope so.

The game looks hardly different to ARMA2, just more colourful. ARMA 3 won't be the massive beast ARMA 2 was at release. 2 doesn't even fully utilize a quad core. If 3 is optomized for quads no-one with an i7 920+ will need to upgrade CPU.

Graphics card requirement will be higher due to the longer draw distances. But again, I think BIS has learned to just back off a little as 2 was kinda ridiculous with its requirements at launch.

Are you honestly arguing that Arma3 will be no different to Arma2 simply because it doesn't have massively higher system requirements? oO

I'd ask you for some of whatever drugs you've been taking, but I'm currently forced to assume that it's some bat-shit-crazy suppository.

when I said ARMA 3 looks very similar to ARMA 3, I was being literal ie. the quality of graphics. Of course I agree that ARMA 3 is looking like it will add amazing new things.

But visually, it looks like being a fairly modest incremental upgrade.

Aaah, gotcha. :D

Sorry for my reaction, I completely misunderstood you there. I also disagree though. :)

Lord Ivan and Dwarden have stated that the current graphics state is unfinished and they are aiming for improved visual quality (for example more subtle HDR with less bloom). Just give it time. :)

well GFX wise, i am pretty happy with A2. What i miss or i need fix (all of it has been said to have a look over):

1. improved lighting system: multiple light sources | deffered lighting/shading | soft shadows

2. improved animation (confirmed as being worked on, as well as IK making it in)

3. fixed HDR/Bloom

4. better LOD transitions.

Of course, things like DX11 features - displacements and tesselations would be a plus, but i hardly find that a necessity.

IMO, LOD transitions are the most important thing that needs improvement in terms of graphics.
