Hitman 5: Absolution announced

Recommended Posts

Sounds to me like "consolification" of the game to make it more accessible.

Sounds to me like someone moaning for the sake of it.

Apart from the first its always been a console game.

@ricbar89 I am not moaning. I trust the developers. Ok, "consolification" was just a bad way to describe

what I thought. I hope the devs don't make a second Splinter Cell: Conviction out of it. :D

Fair enough but im tired of people blaming consoles every time a game doesnt turn out how they like...even when its a console game.

Splinter Cell Conviction is a good example. People blamed "console dumbing down" for its crappyness when every Splinter Cell before it had been on console and huge successes.

Seems like these days people just focus their anger on consoles, ignoring the reality that these days frankly many of their favorite devs are selling out no matter how successful theyve been on any format.

Excuse me but it sounded like "well most are doing it so its okay and theres no need to complain"...

...well if complaining keeps BIS from selling out then i feel its worth it.

Someone blames consoles, i say people always blame consoles rather then devs simply selling out....you interpret that as "dont complain" rather then blame the right people.

Um. Ok. Yeah.

So what do you mean with that?

My thinking of "selling out" is moving to where the money is while don't give a shit about the customer, like with Red River which is even worth than Dragon Rising. A simply shooter that a 6 yo can play, even drunk!

Games are getting "dumbed" down for reasons, that be limitations but also people just accepting it instead of demanding something more intelligent.

I'm sorry if i got you wrong.

I mean people blaming consoles specifically for the dumbing down. It has happened in the past im not denying, but people assume its always the case that a developer has to dumb it down on console.

Like i said, look at Splinter Cell. It was a huge success on consoles, all of them, they sold massively and had a huge fanbase...so why did we end up with conviction? Why did Ubi take it that direction?

It wasnt a case of Ubisoft selling out to "consoles" it was a case of them selling out to anything they thought was "cool" and would make them more money. It was nothing to do with it being a console game as it had always been.

Im not saying dont do anything about it as someone who used to play Splinter Cell im pissed too. But dont blame it on "consolization" every time, because it just isnt fair. The simple fact is its Ubi wanting to make even more money.

Its Ubi's fault, its a choice they made, they didnt have to dumb it down. The games were already popular, console and PC games alike loved them. But still they did it. How is that the "consoles" fault?

Thats what i dont get.

But thats exactly what we are seeing all the time, even simple shooters are being "dumbed" down in player numbers and size of playable area. Take more "complex" games and it's getting worse. Yeah sure there's exceptions but theres far between them.

Few and far between? Lets just stick to Ubi.

Is there some console limitation that meant the new Rainbow Six games had to have over the shoulder 3rd person? They had to have that new crappy health system? That had to have all those new changes? Nope. They could have easily have stayed with the old formula but they chose not to.

Same with GRAW. They had the capacity to have big open maps with open gameplay and the old style squad loads but they chose to go with the magic pips showing you where enemies are and on the rails type gameplay. And now with the new one to go invisible.

Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway. Did they have to have the over the shoulder view, the new health system etc? No, they chose to do it and ruined one of the best tactical shooters of all time (that was a massive success on te Xbox btw).

Hitman has always been on the console, but if (god forbid) the devs choose to mess it up, dumbing it down people will blame the console when "limitations" have nothing to do with it. How can they? The Hitman we know is a console game...

This is what i mean by people just need to accept the fact that many devs are choosing to make these changes to suit themselves rather then their fans. I would say in some ways blaming consoles is becoming the easy way out for people just looking for something to focus there frustration at.

Sure there's games meant and designed for consoles, i'm talking games that were born on pc like i said:

My thinking of "selling out" is moving to where the money is while don't give a shit about the customer

We don't need a editor, we don't need dedicated servers, 64 players->32 players->16 players etc. etc.

All of the games mentioned are PC games (and Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six were born on PC?) as well as console games and the ones ive mentioned were successfull on both platforms.

I would say the direction developers are taking games is a far bigger issue then then how many players you could have online.

To be honest you seem to be supporting my point. Ignoring the choices devs made while focusing on the limitations. I would rather play the old Ghost Recons with 24 players then the new new ones with 64.

Whats really the biggest issue that’s led to the downfall of these games? Regenerating health and over the shoulder cam with run and gun gameplay… or less player capacity per server online? Bearing in mind they could simply up the PC capacity if they wanted too?

Exactly, there we have it. But that rarely happen because time is money and deleloping the game for consoles and then make a "fast and cheap" port pc is much more beneficial.

Having said that, I know a lot of people think Silent Assassin was the best hitman, but personally I think Blood Money was. The feel of your character, the inventory, the upgrades, the missions, everything felt really good in Blood Money compared to the previous games.

Blood Money had some cool aspects to it, but it was also a little too easy compared to the previous games. Before Blood Money, you usually only got one chance to knock someone out for a disguise, and he would wake up eventually, so the disguise was temporary. Blood Money changed it so that knocked out victims stay knocked out forever and gave you unlimited knockouts via the "human shield" ability. As if that wasn't enough, you can actually achieve SA on most levels just by rushing through restricted areas, ignoring all of the angry people shooting at you, and running up to your target for a quick garrote; for some reason, the developers made it so that witnesses aren't counted if you're in a restricted area being shot at. Of course, you could rightly recognize these as exploits and limit yourself to not using them (I did), but it's still a shame that these problems exist, especially since they didn't in the previous games (I'm not counting the first game, as that one was just a mess).

My personal favorite of the series is probably Contracts. It's darker themes are interesting, and it allays some of the more frustrating aspects of Silent Assassin (extremely slow sneak mode, time-consuming chloroform, inability to save) without sacrificing much in overall difficulty.

Here's hoping that Absolution takes the best aspects of each game and perhaps adds some new mechanics without dumbing things down too much.

Well, bugusing busts any kind of game and I'd imagine that the knockouts are realistic. Hitman missions don't tend to be hours long.

Yeah I know. But Hitman is really complex, hard to tell from that pic.

IOI isn't Ubisoft, I think they have enough IQ points to NOT piss off their fans.

:D

I remember Hitman 2 having some heavy action parts, so some crazy action wont be out of place as long as it's a small portion of the game.

You always had the option in Blood Money to take the assault rifle and cause a massacre. Those heavy weapons were wasted if you played the game properly though.

If you could pack and unpack them in briefcases like the sniper rifle they would have been more useful.

It's great to see the series come back.

I just hope it doesn't turn into an over-simplified action game that, despite a 16 or 18 age restriction, has gameplay designed for 10-year-olds with ADD.
